hairloss86 Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 I recently had a hair transplant and was given this breakup 3760 FUGs(7508 hairs) 1 hair 576 1 and half hair 444 2 hair 1,954 3 hair 786 First time Im coming to know about 'one and half' hairs being implanted. How does that work and is that a common practise?
Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted April 29, 2018 Administrators Posted April 29, 2018 Have you confirmed with the clinic that the breakdown is correct. Follicular units are grouped by 1’s, 2’s, 3’s and 4’s. Are those follicular units transected? That’s the only way there would be half a follicular unit. hairloss86 Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 Thanks for your reply Melvin. I have reached out to the clinic(Dr.Path). Not since what exactly transected means? Will that impact the overall result?
hairloss86 Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 I also want to add that the Dr. mentioned that around 500 grafts were FUE. Not sure if thats an important factor to take into consideration
Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted April 29, 2018 Administrators Posted April 29, 2018 Thanks for your reply Melvin. I have reached out to the clinic(Dr.Path). Not since what exactly transected means? Will that impact the overall result? Transection occurs when the follicular unit is not extracted completely from the root, its cut in half. It may impact the result if there is a lot of transectioin. These follicles may not always grow. Typically the less transection the better the survival of the grafts. I would encourage you contact the clinic and verify what the percentage of transection was for your case, and whether or not they are counting transected grafts in your total of grafts. hairloss86 Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 I got a reply from the clinic saying that the half hairs are not transected hairs. The 1/2 hair means that it’s a baby hair that stays near to a strong hair, and that they don’t want to waste them in case they can grow together with the strong ones and turn into 2-hair in the future. What does that mean exactly? Im confused
Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted April 29, 2018 Administrators Posted April 29, 2018 My supposition is that they are referencing hairs that are in the beginning of the anagen phase of hair growth. The anagen phase is the “growth” phase of the hair follicle. There are three stages: Anagen (growth), Catagen (transitional) phase, telogen (resting) phase. Every hair on your head goes through a cycle, that’s why you shed hair because the follicle is no longer in the growth phase, and moves in to the resting phase. When FUSS (strip) surgery is performed some of the hairs on the strip will be at varying stages of growth. My thought is that the clinic believes those hairs are in the beginning of the anagen (growth) phase. However, it sounds like you need a detailed explanation from the clinic. Request this information directly from the clinic. Best wishes Quote I was just an inch away from booking a a hairmill based on google reviews before i stumbled upon this goldmine of a forum. hairloss86 Posted April 30, 2018 Author Posted April 30, 2018 I received a reply from the clinic that :the baby hairs can be either anagen, telogen or even miniaturized hair, that might fall out. However, we don't want to cut these hairs out during the graft trimming because some of them might be able to grow into strong hairs so we take the chances by including them with the one strong hair. According to some studies, the hairs will be able to grow better when they stay in groups"
