Senior Member options Posted April 17, 2018 Senior Member Posted April 17, 2018 (edited) Hey guys, About 2 weeks ago I had fue. After the operation (literally 30 minutes after), I was waiting for my car to pick me up outside and I didn't have a hat on. It was about 24 degrees Celsius or 76 degrees Fahrenheit and the sun was shining. I ended up waiting about 3 minutes. I've read a lot about sun damage, some saying immediately post op is crucial to avoid, others saying as long as it is only for a few minutes and there is no obvious sign of sun burn (there isn't, although with the usual redness of the operation, it's hard to tell, but no other exposed part of my body is burnt) everything should be fine. I spoke to my doctor the next day and he said there is no issue, he does say though to avoid proper sun exposure. I'm going out of my mind thinking that I ruined my growth almost as soon as the operation was complete. Could anyone give their thoughts? Thanks in advance. Edited April 17, 2018 by options
Senior Member BlessUp Posted April 17, 2018 Senior Member Posted April 17, 2018 Overthinking it. Your fine 3 mins is not gonna cause any damage. Just make sure to wear hat next time if you want to be super safe for the next few months.
Senior Member gillenator Posted April 17, 2018 Senior Member Posted April 17, 2018 It does not sound like you did any damage to your grafts...you would know if you sustained any meaningful sunburn. Senior Member options Posted April 17, 2018 Author Senior Member Posted April 17, 2018 Thanks for replying guys, it means a lot. So, am I right in thinking the grafts only get damaged if they get sunburned in a way in which we would notice a sunburn, say, on our face? I have these irrational fears that the fresh grafts were more susceptible to the sun. But it was very brief and I didn't feel the heat on my skin.
Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted April 18, 2018 Administrators Posted April 18, 2018 You have to really have sit in the sun for any damage to occur to your grafts, it’s recommended to stay away from the sun, but a brief period of time without a hat is fine, I walked in 90 degree weather for 15 min after my transplant with no hat, no damage was done you’ll be fine no need to worry.
