Senior Member Billena Posted March 12, 2018 Senior Member Posted March 12, 2018 This 27-year-old male presented to our office after having undergone aggressive SMP at a center that convinced him that it would give a "youthful hairline" appearance. He grew frustrated by the unnatural appearance of the linear ink outline on his forehead and sought an alternative. He simply wanted to have a natural appearance and a healthy framing of his face. Dr. Wesley suggested that the patient undergo laser removal of the SMP. However, the patient still wanted to address his progressive receding hairline.. He underwent a follicular unit extraction (FUE) session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in which a total of 2722 grafts were placed. His hair follicles were incubated in autologous (his own) platelet rich plasma (PRP) throughout the duration of the procedure. This, combined with an ATP-containing storage solution has been shown to enhance survival of transplanted hairs. Rather than a larger FUE punch used by a robotic approach, Dr. Wesley used a smaller caliber hand-held motorized punch to performed the donor harvest. This approach better enabled the capture of donor hair roots that are slightly curved beneath the skin surface. Upon completion of the harvest, the patient’s donor area was treated with PRP and ACell in order to not only minimize scar tissue formation, but also encourage partial regeneration of donor hair follicles. The patient returned both one day and ten days after his procedure and images of the patient can be seen below. --------- Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. is a member of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians.
Senior Member home1212 Posted March 12, 2018 Senior Member Posted March 12, 2018 excellent case, but since the new hairline is much more natural and conservative than the prior linear SMP, was there any treatment before the FUE procedure to eliminate some of the ink at the lower hairline and temple areas?
Senior Member Spanker Posted March 13, 2018 Senior Member Posted March 13, 2018 (edited) Great plan. I see you mention he had laser treatment. Did your clinic do it? Great plan. Senior Member JohnCasper Posted March 15, 2018 Senior Member Posted March 15, 2018 Great question from “home1212” above. Very curious to know how the ink issue was resolved. Much more natural looking results. Well done Dr. Wesley. I am an online representative for Carolina Hair Surgery & Dr. Mike Vories (Recommended on the Hair Transplant Network). Much more natural looking results. Well done Dr. Wesley. This was mentioned in the initial post: Dr. Wesley suggested that the patient undergo laser removal of the SMP. I'm not sure if this was done at Dr. Wesley's practice or not, but very cool that they were able to remove it completely and so naturally. My 1700 FUE with Dr. Konior - October 19, 2017
