Senior Member Baldrick101 Posted February 6, 2018 Senior Member Posted February 6, 2018 I'm now 5 months post FUE and I am wondering if anyone can clarify something for me. Last week I was scratching my head lightly and noticed a single graft on my finger tip. This graft did have "matter" on it like the other but I removed it to take a closer look. Then tonight I felt an itch and then scratched my head. I noticed a triple graft on my finger. I am just wondering if these were grafts that never survived and therefore did not go through the shedding phase? 5 months is a bit late to be shedding, no?! I have attached photos that I took using my USB microscope. I'm not altogether concerned but still curious. Thanks
Senior Member gillenator Posted February 6, 2018 Senior Member Posted February 6, 2018 Yes, it looks like it did not survive and remember, not all of them do. And after 5 months, it surely would have connected to the blood supply and shed, entered a new growth cycle, etc. Do you feel that an extremely high percent of your grafts have shed and are now growing? Senior Member Baldrick101 Posted February 7, 2018 Author Senior Member Posted February 7, 2018 Thanks for the reply. Shame it was a treble that didn't make it! Overall, growth has been quite good for 5 months. Too early to give a final verdict, but it would be nice to see more sprout on the hairline but it doesn't look like that will happen. I haven't noticed any new hairs emerge for a while. So we'll see how the current hairs mature and thicken.

I noticed many hair fell out stuck to scabs in my first 2-5 weeks and they looked some what similar to this picture however given the magnification I can't really tell what this is. How can you be sure that this is in fact the entire graft and not just the hair? Thanks!
Senior Member mattj Posted February 7, 2018 Senior Member Posted February 7, 2018 The photos appear to show normal shed hairs, but five months is rather late for that to be happening. It's also late to be actually losing a graft. I don't think we can be totally certain what has happened to them. I am a patient and representative of Dr Rahal. Senior Member Sean Posted February 8, 2018 Senior Member Posted February 8, 2018 Possibly did not survive. Hope your result turns out well.
Regular Member David1986 Posted February 8, 2018 Regular Member Posted February 8, 2018 Delayed shedding seems quite rare but at the same time can happen. I wouldn’t worry seems like if most of your grafts are comming through you’ll get a good result!! Have you got any photos at 5months post op?
Senior Member Baldrick101 Posted February 8, 2018 Author Senior Member Posted February 8, 2018 I am now wondering if, during initial shedding, these transplanted hairs were not expelled from the graft for whatever reason. Perhaps the skin sealed tightly around them. Then, as the new hair has begun to grow it has pushed the old hairs out. Resulting in an itchy sensation.
Senior Member gillenator Posted February 9, 2018 Senior Member Posted February 9, 2018 That is possible. BTW, do you know how many grafts were placed into your hairline? Nice to hear that you are happy with the regrowth so far. Gillenator Independent Patient Advocate I am not a physician and not employed by any doctor/clinic.
