ASMED 5000 FUE mousey blonde fine hair June 18/19 2017

After copious amounts of procrastination, the FUT and FUE dilemma, and then having to pick a clinic. I have finally pulled the trigger on a 5000 graft FUE with ASMED.

I think you can find people who have written more eloquently than I would about the whole procedure at ASMED, so I will be brief.

I would like to thank all the contributors on this forum past and present.

I decided to post my progress as I could not find many people with the same characteristics as me who have undergone a big FUE session.

The part I was not looking forward to head shaving!

I thought Dr Koray went aggressive as he could with the hair-line design, I knew that a ‘M’ shape design would suit me the best with recession at the temples, this is what he drew straight away in the consultation I did ask him to lower it though, but he thought with the area I potentially had to cover this was as aggressive as he was comfortable with, any comments?

Photos after the second day of surgery.

I found the second day to be much tougher than the first, by the end I was glad it was over with implantation to the vertex the hardest part. Just a small point, the anaesthetic shots do hurt a little but not as much as some people make out!

As you can see the crown did not get many grafts Dr Koray advised me to take Finasterid to help thicken up this area, which I’m still thinking about, probably going to start on a small dose and increase over time.

Congrats on the procedure, i hope you get the result you desire.

I have a few questions if you don't mind me asking.

How long was the waiting list to book a procedure?

If you're from the UK, does he accept pounds? If not how did you go about exchanging so much cash.

Thanks in advance.

Hi BaldingtimetoLdar

I think Asmed are booked-up about 3 months in advance, but you can go on a waiting list and have first refusal if someone pulls-out of their surgery date.

They only accept Euros

This was a nightmare for me as I was on the waiting list and got offered a surgery date at short notice, I was busy so only had a limited amount of time to exchange into Euros.

Asmed allow you to transfer 3000 Euros by electronic transfer the rest you must take in cash, so I had to go to about 4 different places to transfer the money including Sainsbury’s, money exchange etc….I only managed to exchange everything the afternoon before my flight.

I think there are places in London in which you would be able to exchange in one-go at a better exchange rate or some on-line will do it by money transfer and deliver the cash to you. I would have done one of these if I had more time. I would get this sorted well before you fly if I was you.

The good points

The donor area is healing well, all extraction sites look fully healed with most scabs gone, hair has started to grow.

The recipient area is getting less red, with having pasty white sensitive skin this is a surprise. :D

I was lucky and didn't have much swelling

The bad points

The recipient area is very itchy and I don’t want to touch the grafts, so I just gently as I can, tap the area with my finger when it gets too much.

The donor area is still tender and with still sleeping on the travel pillow this puts pressure on the tender area which makes sleeping uncomfortable.

Didn’t think shampooing the recipient area would be so stressful.

I normally sleep on my side, so having to sleep on my back using the travel pillow makes sleeping difficult.

I think I was too careful with the washing, the photos make the crusts look worse than in real life.

I was more aggressive with washing and by the end of day 12 the majority of the crusts/scabs had gone, I had pain in the donor area up till day about day 12, then it started to subside, but still felt a little tender.

I will post my 3 week update on Monday.

How long did you wait to start the gym after a FUE HT?

Guess I'm not in the 5% that don't shed!

The shedding has started but this has been very gradual. The donor area has some shockloss and can be a little itchy. The recipient grafts that have not shed seem to be growing vertically?

Please continue to update your progress as I'm looking at your case very closely. I have similar balding pattern and hair thickness (the only difference being mine is dark:p).

Good luck with your evolution!!

If you're looking for a similar case to op but darker hair, i would suggest typing in ht fanboy on youtube.

Also thanks for the response bloodshoteyes. I have another question if you don't mind answering, i seem to be struggling to get a hold of Dr erdogan. Did you contact them through consultation form on the website or by email?

Thanks again and good luck with your transplant man.

Hi BaldingtimetoLdar

I used the contact form at first but received no response.

I then searched on this site and found an email address for Sema who is a patient coordinator at Asmed, I'm not near my laptop so can't get the exact address, but it should be easy to find.

I then sent her my photos which started the online consultation process.

Hope this helps.

These are my 1-month photos

The recipient area looks redder in the photos than in real life – except after the gym/shower and in certain lighting conditions, it also looks redder?

I would say most of the transplanted hair has fallen, guess this is the most challenging time of an HT, just hope the transplants hairs reappear...

How is your recipient area feeling to the touch? It seems to be inflamed and I may be seeing signs of recipient area scarring.

Are you washing your head regularly?

Hi Arminius

If feels fine to the touch no pain or inflammation, I wash every day with baby shampoo.

I think that I had a shower sometime before which makes the recipient area redder. Also, my phone camera makes it look redder than it actually is.

Don't know what you mean about recipient scarring though?

Clean work. Will be definitely following this.

Are you decided on finasteride? If you want to reap the maximum benefits of your HT long term you def need to take it.

Hi Swooping

I was concerned with all the negative side effects of Fin, so I have started cutting 5mg Proscar into quarters and taking Mon/Wed/Fri to see how I tolerate it.

At the moment no sides effects.

I'm going to keep going with this regime for another month or so, and then re-evaluate.

I think the fact that it goes redder after the gym and shower is because your body temperature rises when doing these activities. This happens to me on the spots where i have eczema, try having a cold/warm shower instead.

I am surprised this guy has accepted to do your HT. He usually sticks to lower Norwood and uses a lot of hair than anyone else for a given area.

When I contacted this clinic for HT, got refused and advised to consider tattooing my scalp, silly man with unprofessional advise.

Wish you good result.

Hi Bloodshoteyes,

How are you getting on?

quote.gif

Hey scooby

Still, in the ugly duckling phase, not a lot has happened the redness has turned pink which I think will stay for a couple of months.

I think you are going for a procedure with ASMED, you have the ugly duckling phase to look forward to....

Going to update at the two-month mark.

The second month has not seen much progress, I thought I would be closer to my pre-op situation. I have attached a close up of the hairline area in harsh light which my phone camera makes it look redder as previously stated, in reality, it is pinker and slowly healing, it is something I was expecting and I'm mentally prepared for this to last up-to the 6-month mark. I think it will be less than this.

The donor area is completely fine with a few areas with shock loss filling in. My hair seems to be growing slower than usual.

In the recipient area, there seems to be a lot of vellus hairs which the camera has not picked up, small dark stumpy hairs (don't know if these were previously implanted hairs that have not shed) and native hair which held on through the trauma of surgery. Which gives a mix of hair that gives an odd look.

I’m usually not a very patient person but with an HT you have no choice, it will grow when it wants to grow...
