Hi Guys, I mostly just lurk on this forum and others but I’ve decided to post to ask for some advice. I’m hoping people with experience may be able to make my decision about FUE a little more informed. I’ve been researching FUE for about a year and am 50/50 about undergoing FUE myself. A little background about me:

 

 

 

I’m a 38 year old male with a Norwood 5 by most people’s estimation. I started to lose my hair around 6 years ago. It’s been fairly difficult for me to come to terms with and has affected my confidence. I avoid as many social events as possible as usually someone makes a comment regarding my hair loss. I’ve asked my doctor for propecia/finesteride but he won’t prescribe it as he believes the side effects are not worth it. I’ve discussed it with my partner and one friend and both seem to be of the opinion that I should just move on. I’ve used rogaine for about two years but when I stopped my hair loss was dramatic on my crown. Even the language used to describe it upsets me…Losing your hair, cure for baldness…etc. I’ve used biotin, shampoos, concealer etc… I fully understand that there are far more important things to stress over but I cannot help how my hair loss makes me feel. I know there are plenty of things in the pipeline due to be released by 2020 but I can’t help thinking in 2020 it’ll be 2025 then 2035 that the commercialisation of these techniques will be launched.

 

 

 

I’ve read some excellent results of FUE Procedures on this site and many others. I have also read people speak against it. I don’t want to post links to any other forums but a quick google and youtube reveal a lot of people warning against it and some state if you get one you will almost certainly need another. However for every 1 article I read there must be ten success stories as long as your expectations are realistic. I have contacted many doctors and provided them with photos of my head. Most agree that I am at a Norwood five and that my donor area looks very good.

 

I have contacted the following doctors and my first impressions are as follows:

 

 

 

Dr Bisanga: I really like his hairlines and Belgium is very easy for me to get to. He proposed 6000 grafts over two sessions 12 months apart. His results are very impressive. His agent was very efficient in answering. Costs for the first 3000 grafts will be 12,000 Euros plus VAT

Dr Feriduni: (Belgium) His work is really impressive and his communication was the most detailed and professionally presented. He proposed 3000-3500 grafts costing 16,335-19,057 Euros. I know some will say save more but I really don’t think I could afford that type of money. Particularly if I have to do it twice.

Dr De Reys: (Belgium) His work looks very conservative, maybe not as dense as what I’ve seen. His results along are fantastic. His office was very efficient. He proposed 3000 grafts at 7,500 Euros with accommodation and pick up included.

Dr Hakan Doganay: (Turkey) He charges 2 Euros per graft and that includes pick up and stay. If I pay by credit card there’s also an extra 8% tax so at 3000 grafts that could cost me 6480 Euros

Dr Erdogan Koray: (Turkey) I’ve emailed but not heard anything back yet. If I’m honest I prefer his density to Doganay but both look really impressive. He charges 2.50 per graft so that would cost 7500 Euros. His facilities look excellent.

Dr Resul Yaman: (Turkey) I was sceptical of this doctor as the response I got was from an Italian agent and the English used had a lot of spelling Mistakes (maybe just a language barrier). I’m particularly impressed with his results however. His density and conservative hairlines appeal to me. He has recommended 5000 grafts at 1 Euro per graft and accommodation and airport pick up included.

 

I’ve read very opposing views on mega sessions but getting 4000-5000 over two days would be my personal choice. I’m just looking for people who have had surgeries with the above doctors that may not have posted (or have) to give me their honest evaluation of their experience. For finasteride, I'd speak to another doctor, probably a dermatologist. I like Bisanga and Feriduni of those you listed. Would probably also add Kyriakos Maras and Jose Lorenzo to your list.

From that list the elite surgeons are Bisanga, Feriduni and Erdogan.

The others I would drop.

Also the biggest issues I've seen with growth come from mega sessions of over 4,000 grafts. I would stage it over two surgeries if possible.

 

Were you able to get a proposed booking date with Feriduni btw?

He's one that everyone would love to go with but no one can get an actual reasonable booking time (kind of like Konior, Lorenzo, Couto etc.)

Thanks for the replies and advice guys. I really appreciate it. If I'm honest it's a personal thing but my gut is going with Dr Bisanga or Dr Koray. I didn't get any specific dates with any of the doctors yet but Belgium and turkey are my preferred destinations. I've attached a photo that I've sent to the doctors. My situation is slightly worse than when this was taken.

Have you made a decision regarding fin? Either doctor is good, since you need more grafts, Erdogan may be a good fit unlike the low NW patients.

Thanks for the advice. I haven't fully committed to finasteride yet because I'm trying to work out if it's even worth it for my hair loss. I've been reading it's mostly effective on the crown and although my crown isn't in great shape it's my hairline that needs so much work.

Fin is also good to stop your sides from coming down, and to protect donor. The good thing here is your age, 38 is a lot better than mid 20s. It is quite possible that your hair loss has stabilized and fin is not necessary. Good luck!

Those docs look good, you've obviously done your homework. I would definitely recommend pushing harder for Propecia/finasteride, especially if you're going to go ahead with a procedure. Maybe give it a few months before the surgery to ensure you won't get side effects.

Thank you. It seems from research that finasteride really improves density. I'm now concerned that without taking finasteride the hair transplant of 5k grafts which most doctors are recommending may not be even worth getting implanted, taking into account the stage of Norwood I'm currently at.

^There's no right answer. If your hair loss has stabilized, you may not need fin. If it's unstable, then you'll need it to protect both donor as well as native recipient area hair. Truly the fog of war...

Hi guys,

apologies for loading this thread with questions but I'm getting varying responses from doctors that I'm emailing.

 

Currently I shave my head with an electric razor to a blade one. I'd like to keep it that way but I've been told that shaving my head after a transplant isn't advised.

 

Has anyone else any experience of this and how long did they wait after their transplant to shave their head? Thanks guys

Hi all, I wanted my hair loss to stable before I could commit to a transplant. I have narrowed my search to 3 doctors.

 

Dr maras in Cyprus. 2-2.70 a "hair" advertised on his site. Not sure of that means graft. I like the design of his hairlines and his clinic looks good. Not a lot of reviews but that could also be a good thing. Does anyone know if beard or body hair is used by this clinic?

 

Dr Erdogan, seems to be very well run but the "hair mill" reputation is putting me off. Also I'm unsure if this clinic uses beard or body hair which I would definitely need. Does anyone know if beard or body hair is used by this clinic?

 

Dr Cinik. Someone I know ended up with a really good result. I really would only use Cinik if he was doing all of the work. He is much cheaper but hit and miss if he doesn't do most of the surgery. He will also use beard and body hair. 

 

Any experience or thoughts would be appreciated.

Let me state some facts for you. This will help you understand your situation better.

1. At Norwood V, you still have chances of losing more hair in the future. You could potentially reach Grade VII in the future. 

2. It is true that if you go for an FUE, FUT or DHT procedure now, you will most definitely require another procedure in the future as hair transplantation does not stop the progression of baldness. Hair transplantation is only for the restoration of the empty areas. 

3. Finasteride is a must if you desire to prevent any further loss of hair. There are no side effects at 0.5 mg to 1 mg and people who mostly report side effects with this dosage seem to have experienced psychogenic side effects. 

4. If you do not want to take the Finasteride pill then you can go for the liquid form available in Italy. It also have good reviews and seems to be working well on patients who are using it. You can see their website in the following link: https://www.farmaciaparati.it/

5. If you use Finasteride then you will not require another procedure in the future. But if you do not then you will most probably require another procedure.
