2700 Grafts FUE - Tue 11th October 2016 - Dr Koray Erdogan ASMED Istanbul

Recommended Posts

Ok so I was 7 months post surgery last Thursday (11th). Took the first set of pics on the 11th (where the hair is longer) and then last 3 shots are from Greece this week. As usual, I can never seem to find great lighting.

I personally think my hair looks much better after the cut. Got a botched cut last time, so I went back to my usual place last week and while it's short, they got rid of pretty much all the split ends. The last pic does make it look a little weaker on the right and I think it is a little, but my hair is quite short and I think it was a bit disheveled with the wind (these were taken outside and I'd been walking around for a few hours) so it doesn't show it off at its best, but I guess that's also real life sometimes.

Anyway I am generally happy and the shape is getting better each month as the front is now pretty much in line (length) with the rest and all the fuzziness of the split ends have gone too. Hopeful that I get some more density over the next 6-12 months as that's the only bit that I worry about a little. Not a huge issue, but in some lighting I'm a little conscious of it.

Looking good Jax. I agree that you would want to see a little more density but as you say that should improve over the next 12 months now. Think of where you started. I'm at 5 months and struggling with density as well. Outline looks great but I have so much more to come through??

I have been following your progress and think you have had a great result so far. I am a few days over 4 months with Dr Erdogan and like a few on here hoping that the density increases. Thank you for sharing your progress with us.

Great result so far. Looking at pic 4, think slickback style will look even better with some styling product. Thanks for your regular updates

Thanks, I do hope so. As I've said I already am pretty happy and it has given me so much more confidence already.

Sorry if I missed it, but do you take propecia?

Hi Lyubo93, no I don't. I choose not too mainly because I not a fan of taking any meds long term but also because Dr Erdogan was fine with me not taking anything (some doctors are quite insistent) and also another HT doctor said to me that given my age (49 this year) and the recession to date, he didn't think I would have that much more recession.

Congrats Mate, Your Result looks amazing mate. Great Result.

Need some advise, I have been facing Male Pattern baldness since 18 Yrs now I am 38 at Norwood III Vertex living in london. Did my analysis and finalised Dr Koray Erdogan ASMED Istanbul and DHI London.

Cannot make my mind as both are similar cost ASMED (5000 graft at 2.5 Euro/Graft),

DHI is around 10K for 2 full day operation (but they are not confirming the no of grafts).

In terms of results.

I am convinced with ASMED their results are great , you being an example.

With DHI, I am not convinced with the results

(e.g DHI gave me an reference to their patients, see the photograph attached).

It’s not thinker and Hair is Springiii not growing straight, I have seen this Springiii hair results with other doctors in Turkey and in UK, its does not look natural.

AS per Dr Koray Erdogan, Springiii hair / Hair not growing straight was because surgeons using forceps to insert the grafts, Dr Solution is the insertion tool (as attached in the photograph), The hair is place in the gap of the needle and the hair is slided into channel/hole, so the hair follicle does not bend.

Asked the same at DHI what tool they use for insertion, they show their tool very similar to the attached image and they also confirmed that they use the implanter tool not the Forceps.

But still I am not happy with DHI results. Not sure how ASMED is getting such results ?

Guide me.

Hi Sk78, thanks for the compliment.

Obviously I can't really speak to how good or bad the DHI doctors/technicians are as DHI were not someone I considered and in truth, thats because I don't think any of their doctors are highly rated on here (unless thats changed in the last year). I basically decided on Europe/Turkey due to costs and from there decided on Turkey and then looked to go with the best in Turkey.

Given that you said the price at ASMED vs DHI is almost the same and you aren't convinced with DHI's results, whats ultimately stopping you going with ASMED? Is it travelling overseas or Turkey specifically?

In terms of ASMED, I really only have good to say about them. The team is lovely and Dr Koray is such a lovey guy. I don't know what I expected, but the clinic itself was very impressive, like a mini hospital, very clean, very smart and well run. If I had to find a negative, then it might be that there isn't really much follow up on their behalf post treatment, but saying that, whenever I had a question, I could email or text them and they would get back to me pretty quickly. I certainly don't have any reservations recommending them.

Finally, as for how ASMED get their result, I think its possibly the higher density, they do tend to quote a higher number of grafts that many clinics so perhaps the greater dentisty is what makes their results stronger?

Hey all so today is 8 months to the day that I had my surgery.

Pics below are from today. As mentioned in the last few updates I've been feeling pretty confident with my hair these days so it's not generally something that's on my mind or I'm stressing about. With that said I have perhaps looked at it a little more this month and while to those looking at me it looks pretty strong, there are definitely still some weaknesses when you look closer, more so on the right hand side. As you can see if I part the hair on the right side you can see the weakness in that area. Although I could live with it as it is, I will be disappointed if that area doesn't fill out over the next several months.

Looking great mate. I think you could live with that result.

Doesn't time fly by.... funny enough, it's my right side that is weak as well with bits not filled in. While I'm happy with the overall improvement, I'd hoped for more density at 7 months.

To be honest everyone who has a transplant on these forums tends to hope for just a little more density. On the upside, you probably have 15-25% improvement left in the bag and already a result that gives you a great looking full head of hair.

Looks like a good result to me for 8 months ,you will see more density in my opinion going by my own transplant and of course there is always an element of illusion of density for most of us, thing to do is just go back to your hair pre op and compare.

Did you see much growth after 5 months or was it what had already grown just matured? I'm coming up to 5 months in a week.

I agree, it would be a bit annoying but if it never improved beyond what it is today I would still be happier and more confident than I was. In terms of more density at 7 months, I really do think it carry vary greatly from one person to the other. I think we see guys who's HT grows in quick and then suddenly thats the benchmark which then leads to higher expectations.

True and when you think about it logically, its of course not going to be the same density as the donor area.

Hopefully. I'd be happy with a little more density and just for the weaker area to be similar to the left side.

To be honest I think I saw the bulk of my growth by month 5th. For me it really kicked into high gear just after 3.5 months and then really filled in through months 5-6. However, just to caution, I think I was one of the lucky ones to really see early growth. Difficult to tell/observe now thay my hair is longer, but I can't say I have overly noticed much difference between months 6-8.

Just one small note, the pics I posted yesterday are all naturalle :D .. with no hair product and barely any attemped at styling. I simply showered and left it dry naturally. IMHO it looks better with a litte product in it to help with normal frizz. I know I keep saying I'd do various pics, but as its my 9 month annivesary next month I'll try and make a wider selection of pictures including wet and fully styled.

Everyone is different. I'm at month 6 in a few days and I'm still experiencing growth. My growth has been much more gradual than Jax's. I can still see new hairs breaking through the skin now (thank goodness.) It's hard not to compare against others on here but I think we all have to wait the full 12 months before evaluating where we are.

Definately. As we both know its hard not to compare and worry about where you are in comparision to other, but its sound advice and one that we we should all try and follow.

Definately continue to improve month on month, hope your concern area resolves itself soon too. Can you please do a spike up pic , close up from front and top both to get us a better idea of density? TIA

JustJax, have you noticed any increased density in month 9?

Hi, I actually just posted this on the main forum Can new hair shed again within months? - Forum By and for Hair Loss Patients but to answer your question here, it doesn't feel like its really improved since around month 6 if I'm honest. People do talk about density improving in the latter months so I am hopeful that it might still improve. I will post some new pictures after I have it cut on Saturday.

Got it, thanks JustJax. Honestly I think your hair looks great now but I can see you wanting a bit more density to fill in the hairline. I have reviewed tons of hair transplant photos and there does seem to be a maturation effect that takes place up until month 12 so there's definitely still a chance that can happen. Good luck to you!

Okay, here we go, 9 months pictures. Strictly speaking it's 9 months and 11 days as I missed taking the pictures last week and figured having missed the day, I might as well wait until this weekend as I was getting my hair cut again. Tried to get several different pics including the back, although that's always an awkward shot without someone to take it for me. They have taken the lower half of the sides and back quite short and perhaps it's a little patchy, but I'm not really bothered. I have seen guys who have not had HT with some unevenness with really short hair so I don't think anyone would look and overly suspect.

As requested by Hkuser, I've even attempted a 'spiked' look. It's a terrible look (reminds me of a bad 90's haircut) but I aim to please.

One thing to note about the pictures on the left side, last month I asked for a haircut like Chris off reality show Love Island (British reality show) and he actually shaved an actual line for the side pattern. I didn't realise what he was doing until it was too late. Luckily it was easily covered, but if you look at the pic you can see it slightly. Thankfully it's growing but.

Finally, as a few of you might have seen, I also posted a separate thread asking about shedding of new hair. Now that I've had my hair cut it feels and looks denser, obviously the density is the same as last week, but what I'm trying to say is that having it longer appears to make the lower density more obvious, at least to me. Anyway, I think it probably suits me a little shorter.

Did this side by side to try and show the difference. As you can see, quite a big difference in the temples and clearly a lowered hair line. Sure I wear the hair feathered a little forward, but that was the case previously too.
