Senior Member Ernie Posted January 30, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted January 30, 2016 (edited) I have a couple questions, but first here's my status: I turn 41 in two weeks, take fin daily (and have for 15 years) and have never had a hair transplant, so I "think" it's safe for me to pursue a dense frontal 1/3rd hairline and "behind the forelock" HT procedure. My questions: 1. Can I choose either FUT or FUE with this amount of hair, and with this being my first HT (see pics)? 2. I can't decide if I'm a norwood 2 or 3 -- any help from you guys would be great 3. How many grafts would you say I need for a dense "Rahal type" hairline (50+ grafts / cm2)? Not saying I"m going with Rahal, but you get the gist of what I mean here. I've only had one consultation thus far, many more planned, but wanted to ask these questions above anyway -- Thanks in advance! FYI - scarring in back of head from car accident. Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted January 30, 2016 Administrators Share Posted January 30, 2016 Norwood 3V I'd say for the type of dense result you want probably 2,500-3,000 grafts, your hair looks like Jude laws, the forelock is somewhat turning to an island, I think it's time to get it done, good age and since your on fin and your hair is stable id say it's safe to be a bit more aggressive. Senior Member Ernie Posted January 30, 2016 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 30, 2016 (edited) thanks for the reply. I should also say that my hair is more "fine" than it is medium or coarse. Does that change things? Probably will go FUT because of your graft amount suggestion -- on that topic, anybody else have some Norwood and/or # of grafts (50+g/cm2 needed)?... Senior Member Rawkerboi Posted January 30, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted January 30, 2016 No, it wont change anything! Given your age you are perfect candidate for HT. Before opting for FUT, consult some few doctors! I would advise FUT, 2800 Grafts- 3000 Grafts!
Senior Member Ernie Posted January 30, 2016 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 30, 2016 Ok, so ballpark 2800-3000 grafts, and another saying 2500-3000. Good advice, anybody else agree, as my goal is aggressive very dense hairline / front third. :-) Scheduled w h&w and Rahal thus far. 3185 FUT with Dr. Rahal on 2/17/16 http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/182611-fut-3185-dr-rahal-day-after-pics.html 1204 FUT with Dr. Rahal on 3/27/17 http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/186586-round-2-rahal-1204-fut-frontal-third-same-area.html ---> total of 4389 grafts to my frontal third via FUT ---> 1mg finasteride daily since 1999
Senior Member MrGio-WHTCClinic Posted January 30, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted January 30, 2016 From the photos, you seem to be a 3V to 4A. You have maintained a tuft on the front. You should decide on the surgical method based on how you want to style your hair in the future. FUE and FUT/strip offer different effects in the donor region. Definitely pursue a hairline specialist with experience. My opinions are my own. I am one representative of MyWHTC Clinic's European branch. Senior Member Ernie Posted January 30, 2016 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 30, 2016 Is it really true that a #3 guard will usually hide an FUT scar when getting a procedure done by say, the top 5 FUT guys in the world? Seems a bit short to me... If you have an exceptionally thin donor scar then possibly it could be hid, but the problem is that no one can definitively tell you how you will scar, some of it has to do with your bodies physiology to scars, some people scar well and others don't, there is no guarantee. I would say the majority can wear their hair #2 on the nape and sides and fade up to a #5 on the donor area. I’m a paid admin for Hair Transplant Network. Senior Member Dutchie Posted January 30, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted January 30, 2016 You have what looks like good density, massive amount of donor hair and a huge forelock (like I do). I'd say you're an excellent candidate for HT
Senior Member Ernie Posted January 30, 2016 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 30, 2016 My mpb has been about the same since starting propecia 15 years ago, so I'm hoping to get a very dense "this guy has an amazing hairline" type HT. You guys are saying 3000 grafts give/take. Question: what's an achievable "grafts per cm2" for me, considering my hair is "fine"? And which doctors are you thinking of when you reply with your "grafts/cm2" estimates for super dense hairline HT? Thanks! 3185 FUT with Dr. Rahal on 2/17/16 http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/182611-fut-3185-dr-rahal-day-after-pics.html 1204 FUT with Dr. Rahal on 3/27/17 http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/186586-round-2-rahal-1204-fut-frontal-third-same-area.html ---> total of 4389 grafts to my frontal third via FUT ---> 1mg finasteride daily since 1999
Senior Member Mikey1970 Posted January 31, 2016 Senior Member Share Posted January 31, 2016 The FUT scars now can be quite immaculate in my opinion. If the Dr does a Trichophytic Closure the scar is so fine...I have had 2 FUT surgery's, wear my hair on a 3 guard and nobody ever comments. Using two mirrors I can see it, but only because I'm looking for it, but it is really fine and doesn't bother me in the slightest. My doc did do a good job with that, credit where credit is due. If you go to a good Dr you should have no probs with a FUT scar. Good luck....

He is the most aggressive in the frontal 3rd region I have seen out of all the surgeons I researched. Dr Hasson's hairlines are probably less dense, but I have also seen some outstanding frontal 3rd density from him. The other elephant in the room is Dr Erdogan of Turkey who seems to be ultra aggressive with the density, although I wonder if he is that way to overcompensate
Senior Member Ernie Posted February 2, 2016 Author Senior Member Share Posted February 2, 2016 Consulting with Rahal, h&w, and Gabel. Looking for 2500-3000 fut. will keep you all posted.
