I know you guys are always looking for larger cases. Although we do lots and lots of hairlines. we do larger cases as well. Here is a recent case of large strip.

Patient G. came to Dr. Rahal looking for a solution to his advancing pattern hair loss. He has taken Finasteride for about 6 months, used Minoxidil for 1 month and tried Nioxin, Biotin and other vitamins.

His priority for a hair restoration procedure was to gain coverage and maintain a natural look as he ages, going from front to as far back as possible. The challenge in large cases is to cover large areas and still maintain a level of density to create volume.

Patient G. has light colour hair and medium caliber with an above average donor density.

Dr. Rahal designed a conservative hairline to maximize coverage.

5130 FUT grafts (10,666 hairs - 803 one's, 3120 two's, 1205 three's, 2 four's) were harvested and use to cover the frontal and mid-scalp zones.

Below, you will find pre pictures and immediately after. We will continue to update this thread with pictures showing the changes in patient G's hair as it begins to grow. Patient G will chime in on this thread with his Rahal experience as well.

Question... If you do plenty of big cases, why not post a finished result rather than someone who's just had a procedure with no visible results, surely if thats something everyone wants to see, it would make more sense no?

Yeah, I suppose, although if this doesn't look to be turning into a stellar result you really think it'll get updated?

I think we often lose sight of the fact that these guys perform multiple surgeries a week, every single week, and posting results to appease us is relatlively low priority. Particularly those already with great reputations.

How many Rahal, Konior, Shapiro, H+W, etc results have been shared in the last 3 months vs how many performed? Probably less than 10%.

That said, I'd love to see a more social media centric approach. Do these guys have a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc page? Only way to make hair restoration more mainstream and socially acceptable is to get the word out at scale. There's a reason Bosley still has a name--its the only name most have an opportunity to hear of. Brian Urlacher had Konior in his backyard and went with a no name. Pretty telling.

Fair enough. My only point was that this forum is still a relatively small channel. The top docs are booked 3-6 months out regularly, demand is not an issue.

The March USA edition of Men's Health has a great article on the latest efforts and future ones to stop balding/grow/replace hair. Great review of products (current and future), the science of future treatments, and modern hair transplant techniques. Its a nice article for a general overview but written where even the most experienced on this site will get something out of it. Plus...it goes so far as to definitively (well, most likely) declare Donald Trump as a recipient of the old surgical hair flap technique. Check it out if you can.

Good read. Just had a look. It's been a while since MH had a meaningful update on this topic.

I found it very interesting that they omitted Finasteride in their maintenance recommendation--just a small mention of Fin in the Minoxidil reference. They've published a few of the controversial studies in the past, but very interesting that the top maintenance tool from doctors was purposely excluded now.

As an aside, I love how they have an ad for "Viviscal" two pages after their mention of hair loss supplements in the "rip-off section". Its business, but comical nonetheless.

The future is indeed exciting.

No doubt, but I don't think Dr. Konior needed Brian Urlacher one bit anyway. Urlacher went to Restore, a HT clinic to many Chicago sports figures that undoubtedly did the procedure gratis. Ol' Brian likely still has tons of dough (unless of course he frittered most of it away like so many ex-NFL players), but hey - free is free. His photos are all over the Restore website and magazine ads with other local sports guys. That kind of exposure for the clinic easily covered his transplant fee by the ARTAS robot.

I've heard very good things about Drs. Keller and Panine - but in the Chicago area, I wouldn't go to anyone but Dr. Konior, with whom I've had three procedures. Somehow, having a surgeon with the knowledge and acumen of Dr. Konior extract and place every single graft definitely fills me with more confidence than does the ARTAS robot, advanced as it may be.

This patient is now 12 months post-op. His final results show the planned conservative hairline and coverage over the frontal and mid-scalp zones. With the continued use of medications, this patient is expected to age with a natural look.
