Regular Member herehair Posted September 9, 2015 Regular Member Share Posted September 9, 2015 Hi everyone, about a year ago I signed up to the forum and began poking around. Nine months later (June 2015) and I was booked for surgery with Dr. Wong. It has been 3 months and here are some before and current progress shots. You can see some updated pictures on my 'blog' which should be linked in my signature. It's taken almost 2 hours to edit these pictures, resizing and cropping and posting them for the public but I really appreciate everyone else doing this before me so I could make an informed decision as well. I plan to update this once a month up to 6 months and maybe at 9 and 12. Anyway, if you're contemplating going for surgery, I hope the blog (link is in my signature below) may help in some way. The last shot is the before, the rest are @ 3 months. Full sets of pictures on the blog. More to come in another month. If I can answer any questions for you, let me know. Regular Member herehair Posted November 20, 2015 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 20, 2015 I've updated my blog (link should be below) to get all the pictures posted for my 4 and 5 month updates but will share some here along with highlights from the past 2 months. Surgery related: numbness in front of scalp remains present but has dropped to about a 2/10 so barely there and only when I touch my scalp to try and find it. Doesn't affect anything. No other surgery effects remain. Scar is essentially non existent. Anything over a 3 with clippers and good luck finding it. I tried a couple weeks ago out of curiosity and while I did find it, it took a couple passes with my hand going up the back of my head. Results: pictures below to show update (see all the pics in the blog) but very happy with results. I have noticed girls look at me differently. They don't rip their clothes off (maybe that happens at month 6)..jk...but there is a subtle yet distinct feeling I get with the interaction now that I didn't have before. Both guys and girls who hadn't seen me since before the surgery see me now and step back. Most people didn't know I got it but it's clear they know something's changed. Case in point: a girl I went on a date w/ 6 months ago saw me last night at a group event and didn't recognize me apparently because she introduced herself to me...she caught it but the new look threw her off enough. The best part of the surgery (and again it's only 5 months) is that I don't have to think about the hair anymore. It's not super full, it's not perfect...but nothing is. I'm very happy with the outcome thus far and am amazed each time I look into the mirror. At some point that will fade, but I do spend a couple more seconds before I head out and smile to myself and saw "wow", sometimes aloud that science has allowed this to be possible. Issues: noticing hair falling out in mid scalp (it's my original hair, not transplanted hair) It's shorter and losing about 20 hairs/day'ish. I haven't talked to Dr. Wong but will follow up shortly. Taking 1mg fin /day 5x/week and I've missed maybe 2 days in 6 months. No sunburn on the scalp though I have been outside more without a hat in this cooler weather (still quite sunny in TX). That's the only downer and I guess could be a big one if it continues but we'll see. Summary: Feeling great every day about the choice to do surgery and w/ Dr. Wong's and his team's result. Regular Member herehair Posted November 20, 2015 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 20, 2015 4 months pics below...the last one I took with a harsher light, closer the the bulb to show...yeah the hair isn't thick, but apart from these lighting conditions, it's fine. This was the first month that I really felt "good" about the results...the ugly duckling phase being over

Regular Member herehair Posted November 20, 2015 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Here is 5 months - more hair growth and pleased with progress. A few more pics in the blog (link in signature, below). One of the pics taken in stronger light (I do this each month to show actually thickness of hair (or thinness is probably more appropriate). One of the mental hurdles I had to get over before surgery was knowing that 'hey, it might look good, but it won't be like getting back a 'teenage' version of me'. I'm very ok with that but wanted to share not just the better pics. Very pleased with results to date. Senior Member Britanium Posted November 20, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted November 20, 2015 Your progressing well ! This looks to be heading for a great result. Even with 4500 grafts you did have a big area to cover. Would you have a 2nd HT if needed ?
Regular Member herehair Posted November 20, 2015 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 20, 2015 Your progressing well ! This looks to be heading for a great result. Even with 4500 grafts you did have a big area to cover. Would you have a 2nd HT if needed ? Thanks for the kind words. Hoping it is only going to get better too. In my mind, right now it's one and done w/ the surgeries. It looks so much better now than it did before surgery with half my scalp nice and bald that it went from being one of the top things I think about to something that's simply not on my mind anymore, except when I look in the mirror before going out...and now in a positive way. If I start losing more of the native hair down the road, then I'll consider it but so far, the first surgery served its purpose and I'd prefer not to have another. Regular Member herehair Posted November 2, 2016 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 2, 2016 My last forum post was a while ago...back at 5 months progress. Today, I updated the blog to show 6, 12 and 15 month progress pictures. This post will only include a few shots from 15 months - the rest can be found in my blog (link in signature below). Yes, the post is long. If you want pictures, go straight to my blog. I also plan on creating a 'master pic' - one picture with shots from each stage to show the transformation effect. So now I'll just post some final thoughts about the surgery, drift off away from the site and remain ever grateful that both this site exists and technology was advanced enough to change my life. It was 2 years ago that I stumbled upon this forum and saved some pics to my desktop of some of the more unbelievable transformations. I showed them to family and friends and asked them "can you believe this is possible?" At that point I had no clue surgery (legit surgery that is) existed. I did not know about finasteride either, only the rogaine foams from the infomercials. What has changed in the past 2 years since stumbling to the site? Well first I do not think about my hair anymore. Even the wow factor has rubbed off since my brain has now figured out that this new guy in the mirror is here to stay. (I did double takes through 9 months post-op each every day in the mirror). I am also more confident. I would like to think I was a good person on the inside already (living by the golden rule, etc), career was good, friends good,...all that. If anything was getting me down, it was the fact that I let a good 10 years pass before I looked up in the mirror, realized the effect of my baldness and felt bad I had done nothing to stop the loss. It was the fact that something could progress so long in my life without me even realizing it...that had me pretty bummed. Anyway, since then I would say the biggest change aside from a general uptick in confidence is that I've found someone. I had girlfriends before but now have the type of person on the inside (and out) who I've wanted all along. I think before this, I was afraid to 'go for it', feeling maybe I didn't deserve that which I truly desired. Friends have told me that she's attractive, not to state the obvious but to insinuate that maybe she's 'too attractive' for me. I have to laugh. They are right. She is too attractive for me. Without getting too cheesy, it felt like this hair transplant was the final piece of the puzzle for me. One I lost a decade ago and am so happy to have found again. What about the results? I keep the hair long (the pics in this post are just after my 15 month hair cut and where I like to have it). My sister tells me I have the same haircut as when I was a teenager - maybe this is a dig that my style hasn't changed but if it looks anything like me as a teen, I'll take it! When strangers ask my age, they don't believe how old I really am. Is the hair perfect? No. It's thin on the top and the crown isn't completely full. Is it good enough? Definitely. Am I happy with Dr. Wong, his staff and their professionalism? Without a doubt. Would I recommend him and surgery in general to those on the fence? Yes. And btw, Vancouver is a beautiful city - if you don't go to Dr. Wong or Dr. Hasson, plan a trip there during the summer anyway. Well that's it. Good luck to those about to get a transplant and thanks to all those who helped me make the decision to go for it! Feel free to ask any questions. -J

Regular Member herehair Posted November 7, 2016 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 7, 2016 (edited) going for another transplant? Surely you must have more grafts? I don't plan on going for another round. If I did go back though, I'd probably focus on the middle area as that didn't receive any grafts. Confidence-wise, I don't think I'd gain much by another round. Dr. Wong did ask at the end of the surgery if I wanted him to take another graft. Because they dense packed the front so much and I had enough of a hole in the crown, they didn't have much left for the middle area. It had been a long day and I was ready to call it. I'm more than pleased with the transformation. Edited November 8, 2016 by herehair

Regular Member GuyFromTheUK Posted November 8, 2016 Regular Member Share Posted November 8, 2016 Thanks dense, appreciate the kind words! Wow; great result! I'm off to H&W too in about 5 months; are you on any anti-DHT treatment (finasteride.etc)? If so were you on it before too or just since your procedure and how are you doing with the sides? (have you got any sides on it?) Your hair is quite similar to mine; thin on top and at the front but relatively thick at the sides and back. Great job anyways
Regular Member herehair Posted November 8, 2016 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 8, 2016 Hi UK Guy, You are in good hands. The staff is very professional and the experience top notch. I was on finasteride starting a couple months before surgery - not long enough to really tell a difference. I still take it religiously. I get the 5mg big pill because it is cheaper and cut it up each week into 5 1mg pills and take it M-F (taking the weekends off and that gives me a sense of not taking a pill every single day which is nice). The pharmacy there in Vancouver will renew your prescription and mail it to you back home. I got some extra while there and haven't had to renew it yet (it's been over a year). As to any fin side effects - none. Everything works as it should Good luck and congrats on taking the leap. I think you will be very pleased.
