That's a shame. I have not yet purchased any here in the US but plan to do so in the future. Have you called around to compare prices? My old pharmacy used to price match Costco.

Yes, I seem to have the lowest price for a U.S. company. Nor could I find a Canadian pharmacy that could match that price. But other generic drugs have also been skyrocketing in price of late.

Those affected will have to either bare the price, change to an every-other-day schedule, or revert to the mess of 5mg...:(

I received my first prescription for finasteride from Dr. Alexander. After that I was pretty lucky because on routine visits to my GP and dermatologist I was offered prescriptions by each of them my just mentioning that I was taking it so I never had an issue.

Even with excellent insurance here in the US we typically pay a copay of some sort for any doctor visit. So, if your GP says no or you just want to get it from another doc, you'd pay another copay for that visit.

Is that what you mean?

I should add that I believe that crowns tend to grow more slowly based on what I've read. I don't have any personal experience as I had my first crown work done less than 4 month ago. I'm curious to see how it works out for me.

To reiterate what I said previously, as far as I know this is all anecdotal. If anyone is aware of a study on this please let me know.

Spex - not sure why anyone in the US should bother with the inconvenience/cost associated with prescriptions for something that has been plentiful as a generic from a variety of drug companies for several years now. Particularly when reliable generics can be ordered for as little as around USD 20 cents per 1MG dosage - no script necessary. I've been doing it this way for years now.

It won't be the same for everyone here. It depends on the medical insurance you have through your employer and that can change from year to year. You don't pay for the prescription per se but for the visit. At the moment I pay $30 per visit to a GP and $40 for a specialist.

I've had some docs require me to come in for a consult when I need a prescription renewed while others will do it with a phone call.

I wish our medical system was standard as in the UK. My sister who has lived in Bournemouth for the past 10 years has really enjoyed the NHS.

Oh year, I only address the cost of obtaining the prescription from the doc and not actually purchasing the drugs.

Since my finasteride was not covered by insurance, I was waying about $9 for 30 5mg tablets at the time. I have a $10 copay for covered drugs so it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

I have yet to get aprescrption for 1mg finasteride. Still have plenty from India.

Hi, off topic a little.

In the UK we have to obtain a prescription for finasteride as do guys in the US and often many family GP's will not as not informed on the medication or patients don't wish to obtain one from their own family GP for one reason or another. Therefore patients need purchase a private prescription for the medication and this costs. Is this pretty much how it works in the US too?

If so what is the average cost of the prescription ?

Spex your the one who is "not informed" on how dangerous Finasteride is.

You and your ilk who peddle Finasteride are destroying lives.

Mark,

I've had to deal with all the name calling and uncivilized behavior I can handle over the past couple of weeks. Therefore I'm going to tell you one time only. If you can't conduct yourself in a manner befitting a mature and educational forum such as this, you may go elsewhere.

Prescription over in UK is free right?

Can you not just go to your local GP & as for something like Fin? Or won't they give it to you because its a vanity thing?

Here in the US like David say you call up for appointment have a what they call a copay something like $10/30 depends what doctor you go to, tell the Doc what you want, they may ask a few medical questions which is the Norm then call in your drugs to whomever you want to get it from say walmart , cosco ,Cvs pay for your drugs at the store job done. Also can ask your Dr to give you a repete so you haven't got to goto the Docs every month & then you avoid that copay like david was saying.

Not sure what sort of price the chemist charge you tho, I hear its pricey.

David

I'm doing the same as you done in the past the $9 for 30 mg of Gen Fin but 8 mths on it & I'm kinda second guess if this gen Fin is doing the job unlike the 5mg proscar which I may switch sometime after my 1 yr mark but ill just see how things go in the next 4mths or so as I've read that its the 2nd part of the year of taking Fin that's when you notice the better changes....

Do you agree david?

Why not just pay an annual visit to Bosley to get the perscription? all it will cost you is having to sit through their presentation for 1 hour - lol

I do agree and I always recommend that anyone starting finasteride continue to use it for not less than 6 months and up to one full year before assessing their results.

You guys are complaining about the price of fin in USA! You guys pay peanuts compared to us UK guys!

I currently pay 215 UK sterling for six months supply of brand name propecia ($314). That is on a private prescription from my GP. Its suppose to cost 320 UK sterling ($507) but I know the pharmacy owner, so get a cheaper deal. I was paying 220 UK sterling for 12 months brand name proscar, again on private prescription and switched to 1mg brand name fin a few months ago.

The problem in the UK and NHS is proscar is available on an NHS prescription for men suffering from prostate problems. But not for hair loss. For hair loss you need to get a private prescription. Most GP's usually charge for this (mine doesn't as I been with his surgery for many years). Then the pharmacy sets their own prices for the fin.

I think the generic 1 mg. is cheap here in the states. I don't know if my insurance would pay for it. My co-pay is $10 for a prescription. My prescription is right around there. No reason to use my insurance.

If you're in the UK, why don't you get on the Boots Hair Retention programme? They sell propecia for ?360 for a year's worth.

I pay 15 pounds for a year's supply of generic in the UK. Why on earth would you pay 20-40 times that for the same drug with a different name?

Because I don't trust generics. Too much risk
