Senior Member Squatch Posted November 10, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) This is my 3972 FUT procedure I had with Dr. Gabel 11/3/14. I am in my early 40's. I have been thinning for the last 15 years. Never thought when I was 25, I would lose my hair. Always super thick when younger. My father and grandfathers always had a head of hair. So I finally made the decision to do something about it. Life's short! I have been using minoxidil irregularly over the last seven years. Well I am a week out. Here are some pictures (with flash) over the first week. We went with a higher density in the front and tapered off towards the crown. I posted a few extreme close up shots just because I don't see many posted. Some of my grey hairs don't show up much. My recipient area was never that red even the the first day. No pain to speak of. My forehead and eyebrow area on the third day had just a tiny bit of swelling. This subsided on the fourth day. I don't have any itching anywhere yet. At seven days in, I don't see much crusting. Just a little abrasion spot, which I have mineral oil on. My scar is covered by my hair, and of course some tightness. BTW looks cruddy with it wet and ointment I have on it. Overall it has been a "walk in the park" thus far. I'm just antsy. I had a very pleasant experience with the Dr. and his team. I put a link to a review I did about Dr. Gabel below. If Dr. Gabel puts up my pictures (without flash), I will add a link. I am eager to see the result. Like everyone else I suppose, I'm checking out the mirror too much already. Senior Member win200 Posted November 10, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted November 10, 2014 I love Dr. Gabel's work; always so clean and meticulous, even immediately after surgery. He's one of the best. Happy growth!

Senior Member hadenough2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted November 10, 2014 Thanks for great pics. Kinda stinks that you drew the short straw in the genetic line when it comes to hair retention. I never had that issue - I always (since I was a late teen) knew I was destined for Norwood 5 or 6 unless I took some action. You have a great donor area by the looks of it. Your surgery date, number of grafts, Norwood stage, and hairline design are similar to mine with Dr. Shapiro. It will be interesting to see your progress as we move along this process on the same general timeline! Best of luck!

Senior Member Squatch Posted November 14, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted November 14, 2014 Here are a couple photos 11 days post op. Most of the crusting started coming off on day 9. Just about all gone now. I noticed just a few hairs shedding so far. I really don't see any redness left. Kind of surprised I have had no itching. I also have just a small amount of tightness in the donor area. RajBoise
Hey Squatch, cant avoid the mirror.. haha. I am in the same boat. Had my procedure with Dr. Gabel on Oct 29th. I am at a point where the crusting is almost gone and my last few soaks did nothing more than left a bunch of hair in the bathtub. Guess the shedding has begun! I am unable to figure out how to start a new thread (maybe i am missing something while trying to post from my iPad). Anyway looking forward to the next few months. Would love to stay in touch. -Raj
Senior Member hadenough2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted November 14, 2014 Looking great, man! No redness. Looks very clean. You and I had almost same number of grafts. I am on day 28. Getting a head-shave kind of stinks, doesn't it? But it's the way for the Dr. to perform the procedure in a fashion to get the best result when graft count exceeds 2500. I think most Dr.'s shave over that level, and some will work around. Good growing to you!

Senior Member Squatch Posted November 19, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted November 19, 2014 (edited) Day 16. I'm getting some increased shedding today. Just a little tightness at the donor remains. I went to get a haircut today. Hairstylist said she never saw a HT until today. She thought I lost a bet when I took my hat off. Edited November 22, 2014 by Squatch Dr.Gabel 3972 FUT 11/3/14 Progress/Results Below http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/177388-3972-fut-dr-gabel.html
Senior Member Squatch Posted December 6, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted December 6, 2014 (edited) Here are a few shots at 1 month. I would say I shed about 80% of my transplanted hairs. It is hard to judge which are the native hairs and the donor hairs that remained. I have had a few red bumps from who knows what. They don't hurt and I would say are a normal occurrence if I'm not mistaken. My scar line is just a fine red line that should be easy to hide. No pain at the donor area. I still can feel just a bit of tightness when I bend my head down. Just the waiting game now. I am glad it is winter and I am able to wear a hat. Perfect time to conceal the ugliness. Edited December 6, 2014 by Squatch Dr.Gabel 3972 FUT 11/3/14 Progress/Results Below http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/177388-3972-fut-dr-gabel.html

Senior Member hadenough2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted December 6, 2014 Looks as expected at this stage. Hope your donor scar also feels good at this point. 7 weeks in, I hardly feel mine any more. Literally each day it becomes less noticeable (feeling-wise) that it is even there. I think by week 10 or so I won't feel any remnants of tigtness or anything at all.
Regular Member hirsute87 Posted December 8, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted December 8, 2014 wow, looks good. I'm just a couple weeks behind you. Agree about the tightness, slowly going away. Chin up as Dr. Gabel says. Good progress bud, now the waiting game.

Senior Member Squatch Posted January 7, 2015 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 7, 2015 I am at two months now. My native hair on top is at about 1.5 inches right now. I am getting some fine dark hairs and a bit of thicker hair sprouting. I don't know if they are the new grafts, shock loss, or just my native miniaturized hair. I am unaware of the FUT scar now. No tightness or tenderness. It kind of looks like a war zone on top with all the ingrown hair developing and healing. Looking at myself more in the mirror right now than a gym rat. I been following you also since you are just ahead of me. The red tends to show a little more right after I apply Minoxidil.
