My question is, what do you say to patients about balding in the future regarding expectations and future loss. This guy is going to be a nw6 in the future. That's an aggressive hairline for when he is 55 and a nw5 our 6. Do you feel like he has enough grafts to support it if he stays out of the crown? Fin us great, but when you are showing loss like that you can still plan on eventually progressing. Senior Member splitting hairs Posted February 25, 2015 Senior Member Share Posted February 25, 2015 The truth is that in the propecia trials, hair counts rose for the first year, were maintained for year 2, then fell after that. At year 5, the hair count was only slightly above baseline. There is a 10 year study which shows finasteride is still effective with 86% not experiencing worsening of hair loss , however it is most effective for patients over the age of 30 (probably due to hair loss having started later). But effectiveness after 10 years doesn't mean effectiveness at 20 years etc. The general consensus is that propecia will not prevent further hair loss forever. It will most likely just slow it down.
