Best Dr. for Serious Scar Repair from Former HT

Recommended Posts

I am in the Central Florida area and have had two HT procedures over the past 4 years (each about 2 years apart). The second one was a disaster and an infection developed on one side, bursting the stitches and causing a huge bald area that needs to be fixed. Both procedures were around 2200 grafts each to basically cover the top front half of my head. My problem is two-fold. I would like the scar fixed as well as the other scars in the back that stretched and are visible, and I would like one more procedure to make the front a little fuller.

I think it's time to move on to a different dr. that performed all the prior work. I am not sure I got all the grafts put in that I was told I had (4400 is a lot and still thinness in the frontal area where they were placed). I also feel like the dr. is not competent to best repair the scarring.

I am ready for a highly talented, board-certified surgeon who can repair and add additional grafts, if that is possible. Do I need to drive to Miami (seen good reviews about Epstein) or is there someone closer to me?

My advice is to do a LLLOOOOOOTTTT more research. After researching, you may find that the Dr. for is not in your state, region, or even country. You have a very finite number of grafts and you should trust them to the doctor that you believe in the most, no matter what the location.

I am an online representative for Dr. Raymond Konior who is an elite member of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians.

I was impressed by Dr Konior's suturing work - extremely neat and clean and it healed great.

Also he is a dab-hand at getting the most out of a small number of grafts so it's a win-win!

The only downside is you will need to fly to Chicago.

4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013

1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018

763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020

Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day

Thanks for the replies. Florida is probably one of the best sources overall for all kinds of plastic surgery because so many physicians come here and the demographic of potential clients is huge with all the retirees and snow-birds. That said, there are also a number of crack-pots here too but I don't think I need to go out of state.

I reviewed other posts and saw good things said about a Dr. Paul Rose who practices also in Tampa, I believe.

Anybody here have good experience with repairs by either Dr. Epstein in Miami, or Rose, and are there any other talented and competent surgeons in the Florida area?

Dr. Epstein used to be recommended here, and he no longer is due to poor results, so that should tell you all you need to know about him. Every doctor is not equal as you know, and every doctor is not equal in terms of scar repair work. If I was you I would start by posting up some pics here so we can better help you, and then I would schedule a consult with Dr. Glenn Charles in Boca Raton, he is a good surgeon and seems like a genuine guy who will steer you in the right direction. It is really going to come down to whether a scar revision or fue into the scar is your best option, again pics would be helpful.

I see. Thanks for the insight on him.

Good point. I will put some photos up so you can see what I mean. There are two scar issues. One is the large scar from the donor strip incision. The other is the large area that was an open wound that is basically, pure scar tissue. I like to wear my hair faily short (this is not the 70's, LOL!) and the 3 scars from the two procedures stretched such that there is a considerable and visible band in the back which is horrible. But nothign is as bad as the scar on the rear right side that looks like something from an auto accident or gunshot.

I will try to get some photos up soon. Have you or anyone reading this thread, heard of any recent reviews of Dr. Paul Rose who practices in multiple locations in Florida?
