Receding?

Hi Everybody,

I've always had a widows peek (It used to drive me crazy when I was younger because no matter how I cut it it would jut straight out and look funny). But recently I've really been paying attention to my hairline.

Looking straight at my hairline it looks pretty straight, but it looks funny from the side. There are days that I obsess over it and then other days that I feel like I'm crazy for thinking that anything is different.

Comparing it to pictures from 2/3 years ago when I was 20, they look very similar (its just hard to compare because I style my hair differently).

I have attached pics, I wet my hair and combed it up and towards the center (to make almost a mohawk, to give you the worst case scenario for my hairline)

I was wondering if it looks like I'm receding (I have thick hair, so thinning is not a problem), and if so what Norwood am I?

Thank you!

Chris

Maybe a NW2.5.

Definately not worthy of a transplant. It still looks good but if you have a family history of baldness/recession - and this bothers you - you might want to start taking finasteride/minoxidil to slow it down.

4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013

1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018

763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020

Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day

I agree with matt, definitely no reason to consider surgery but it does look like the first stages of hair loss.....best to start on the meds to catch it early in my opinion.

2,000 grafts FUT Dr. Feller, July 27th 2012. 23 years old at the time. Excellent result. Need crown sorted eventually but concealer works well for now.

Propecia and minoxidil since 2010. Fine for 8 years - bad sides after switching to Aindeem in 2018.

Switched to topical fin/minox combo from Minoxidil Max in October 2020, along with dermarolling 1x a week.

Wrote a book for newbies called Beating Hair Loss, available on Amazon

After seen the attachment it the first stage of hair loss. And you have to try the ways that it stops here. There is no need to hair transplant. I agree with Tommy.

It's receding a bit (as can be seen by the standard U shape), but the good news is that's pretty normal and you have an enviable amount of hair. Your hairline seems to be on the high side and there are some straggler hairs a few centimeters down. Has the front of your hairline receded back much, or is it just naturally on the high side?

Although you hair currently looks good, it doesn't sound like you have very good grip on your hairloss/recession as your pictures 2-3 years ago don't sound very reliable. And you're pretty young... so with that said I think if you want to pursue HT you need to wait a good year and just very closely monitor what your hair is doing. You can also use that time to really reflect on what you want. If you elect for a HT, you need to be absolutely open to needing additional work in the future. If you find no difference after like a year then maybe a conservative number of grafts (i.e. maybe fill in the temples modestly) would be a good idea.

Either way going on or at least tryring meds would probably be good, especially Minoxidil as that has no major side effects.

check out a thread by screen name SPANKER. his condition pre-HT reminds me of yours

although, he is in his early 30's and seems to have much thicker hair than you, he did have HT to temples and front, areas that you are concerned with, even though most of us would kill to have his pre-HT head of hair. but everyone has different goals for their lifestyle.

in the end, you just might be too young to risk having these areas treated now. maybe not.

best to get a consult with a COALITION doc in your area or via Skype/email, just to have get an opinion on what is really going on and to put your concerns at rest. he might advise fin or minoxidil. totally worth it, just to keep ahead of things.
