Senior Member xtatic5 Posted December 16, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted December 16, 2013 I didn't use any but I've heard Mederma or Vaseline might speed up healing.

Senior Member cueball35 Posted December 16, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted December 16, 2013 my post op instructions are to apply a silicone gel to the scar from 3 weeks post op to stimulate the healing process, silicone gel such as Vicatrix, Kelofibrase, Cicatrix or Bapscarcare were mentioned as possible applications and to use them for as long as the scar remains reddish. 4510 FUSS Dr Feriduni December 2012 2350 FUSS Dr Feriduni December 2013 HT 1:Total Grafts 4510: Singles 715, Doubles 2123, Triples 1369, Quads 303 ( 10,280 Hairs ) HT 2:Total Grafts 2352: Singles 350, Doubles 1601, Triples 401, ( 4,755 Hairs )
Senior Member Patriot34 Posted December 18, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted December 18, 2013 Merderma is a good product to help the scar heal faster, but it is rather expensive and could probably get the same results with some of the products mentioned above. Senior Member gillenator Posted December 18, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted December 18, 2013 From what I have read, Mederma is not recommended for newer scars but more so for stubborn scars that have coloration. If you use it too early, it can cause the scar to look even more red or shaded. Many docs will recommend a steroid based cream for the lingering redness. They may need to provide a prescription because the over the counter steroid creams are low strength. Senior Member gillenator Posted December 18, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted December 18, 2013 I was supplied with a cream to use for around 7 days after my transplant. That was probably bacitracin ointment for preventing infection. Gillenator Independent Patient Advocate I am not a physician and not employed by any doctor/clinic.
