Senior Member mm015 Posted January 4, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 4, 2014 I'm not sure about needing another procedure for the "eyes and mouth". I hope I won't! But wouldn't be surprised if I do. I've been told to use Monixidol spray and Biotin Tablets to help support the new hair growth. I'm not on steroids and I didn't need the headband at all as I didn't have any swelling. It's very difficult to sleep at the mo in order to avoid the transplanted area touching anything. Broken nights of sleep and the donor area is painful to lie on. Just looking forward to 7 days passing and the scabs coming off. In my opinion right now. you definitely could not go back to work within a week if not 2 weeks.
Senior Member 1978matt Posted January 4, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted January 4, 2014 Good work on the write up. I don't know much about Biotin per se but I take Wellman Tricologic which has 300% RDA in every tablet. It also serves as a multivitamin. I buy them off ebay as they are half the price compared to Boots - GBP10 for 30 tablets and I just take one a day (the directions say 2/3 a day with meals whcih i think is excessive). I've used Regaine, Rogaine, Kirkland, and Walmart Minoxidil Foam 5%. They are all the same as I'm concerned. Kirkland purchased off ebay or Amazon will probably be the cheapest. Again, forget about going to Boots, a complete rip off! 4,312 FUT grafts (7,676 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2013 1,145 FUE grafts (3,152 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - August 2018 763 FUE grafts (2,094 hairs) with Ray Konior, MD - January 2020 Proscar 1.25mg every 3rd day

Senior Member mm015 Posted January 5, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 5, 2014 Hi guys, Day 3 post operation. I'll try to post a few pics up in a bit. Things are definitely getting better although slight. The donor area is become less and less painful each day. In fact, I'd say the pain is almost gone. Lying on it feels strange as I can feel the hairs growing back which has a beard like feel as it's so short (I've never had hair less than about 2 CM). But it's cool to experience. The transplant area doesn't really hurt either although I'm still extremely tentative when washing it. The first wash I did myself took me about 30 mins as I was so careful and also because the bepanthol lotion took a lot of goes to get off before the shampoo. No doubt because that grafts have scabbed over and it get's caught between them. I've experienced the swelling now that I didn't have initially and which was mentioned earlier by *hairgainer*. Last night was pretty massive as my girlfriend pointed out and then this morning again. It's now come down around the sides of my face too and is possibly getting to my eyes which I think might be closing up a bit! I've always wondered what it's like to be Klingon... ;-P Despite being told I don't need to do anything with the donor area, I have been putting a bandage around it when I sleep as it gives me an indication of where the donor stops and the recipient area begins meaning I find it easier to work out how to sleep in the right position so that the recipient area is free. It does also alleviate the slight uncomfortableness in the donor area when I lie down on the pillow. Overall though, it's all going well. I popped into my barber who I have been talking to about this for ages. About 9 months ago, one of the girls there told me about a pop star in Romania who had it done, and that was what kicked my into going for it. They are all really excited about the whole thing and very interested. He was so impressed with Dr D's work. My barber want's to put pics on his wall of the different stages too. I'm sure I'll be able to get Dr D even more patients! Here's a few Day 3 pics for you. Bear in mind that the previous photo's were all taken by Dr D's amazing camera and these are just with an Iphone. Lighting etc makes a difference. But form now, I will try to take them in the same place around the same time of day for true comparison.
Regular Member JohnGage Posted January 5, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted January 5, 2014 Thanks for the updates. Swelling is actually due to the saline injected during the transplant. Apply a hot compress then massage your face from the inner forehead out towards the edges of your face and down to help get the fluid to migrate down the sides of the face and into the neck. Massage once an hour for 5 minutes while awake. Since this swelling is due to the injected saline, icing can actually make the swelling last longer by constriction. Heat does the opposite, causes dilation. All the best!
Senior Member mm015 Posted January 5, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 5, 2014 Cheers JohnGage I will do that. It's ok then to touch the swollen areas and I guess move the stuff around then? Also, here's a few pics with the Bethanol lotion on just to show people what it's like for their interest. Regular Member JohnGage Posted January 5, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted January 5, 2014 As long as you don't touch the scalp/transplanted area it should be fine. Usually HT patients are given Prednisone (a corticosteroid) to control swelling. I read that doctors in Turkey; Dr. Demirsoy or even Dr. Koray does not! Some say icing your forehead (to constrict/reduce swelling on the forehead BEFORE it happens) helps. Another technique involves using a head band with a channel of least resistance provided on the sides by inserting some rolled up gauze beneath the head band near your temples so that the fluid can easily migrate down from the sides rather than on to your forehead/eyes/nose. Senior Member mm015 Posted January 6, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 6, 2014 I used the agent Clemens Weber who can be found by typing in: "clemens weber haartransplantation-tuerkei" then look for the website that is entitled "hairtransplantsturkey" and it will take you to the health travels website. From their, fill in the form and he will reply. Here are some photo's from day 4. The donor area scabs are gently coming off and it's quite nice rubbing my hand over that area which is itchy. As I rub it, some of the very small scabs come off. The transplant area is still not ready for the scabs to come off. But they will do in their own time. The swelling has gone down considerably. This morning when I woke up I did feel it around my eyes but the areas around the face have definitely reduced. Not really seeing anything of note yet, other than original hairs coming through. My G/F seems to think that she can see tiny hairs coming out of the transplant areas. So, all ticking along.
Regular Member ClemensWeber Posted January 7, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted January 7, 2014 Hi mm, It is nice to hear that you are alright and that the procedure went well. Unfortunately I couldn?t meet you, but I am sure Dr. Demirsoy and his team took great care of you. I am looking forward to further updates and your final result in 8-12 months. Senior Member mm015 Posted January 7, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 7, 2014 Hi Clemens, Yes a shame we didn't get to meet, but it was all absolutely fine. Dr Demirsoy's assistant Muzzaffer was brilliant. Lovely guy, very helpful and extremely good English. The whole experience couldn't have gone any better. So an update for you all. Still very difficult to sleep in the right position at night so as not to touch the recipient area! Tossing and turning to find the right place. Anyway, only 3 more night's left of that... The scabs around the Donor area are starting to come off a lot more now which is exciting. The shower today was great as I managed to get rid of quite a lot. I spent more time on my right side than the left as I was in a rush to make lunch. So you might be able to see the slight difference. I can definitely see hairs growing around the whole head now. The donor ares is still slightly sore to touch as is the recipient area, but that is slowly subsiding over the passing days. Today my Minoxidil arrived. I will wait until all the scabs have gone before I apply it. Photo's below were taken in a different lighting location and hopefully for future comparison I'll be able to take them from there. Senior Member imnothere Posted January 7, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted January 7, 2014 Have you left the house yet? What sort of reactions have you got from people/family?
Senior Member mm015 Posted January 7, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 7, 2014 I've been out - with a hat on to protect my head, but I've only been out for short necessitys. I've told a few close friends and family and showed them this thread. They have all bee fine - they are interested in seeing the results too! And my Girlfriend obviously knows all about it as well. The wider public/acquaintances... I don't know. But I will be wearing hats out for some time. I don't plan on shouting about it from the roof tops and if I can get away with people not knowing great. Although I won't hide it if someone asks me.
Senior Member imnothere Posted January 7, 2014 Senior Member Share Posted January 7, 2014 Yeh probably best way to play it. No need to tell unless asked. What sort of hat you finding best?
Senior Member mm015 Posted January 7, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 7, 2014 Well, I went out and bought 6 different styles before my procedure. Currently, if I go out I use my baseball cap as it's totally adjustable and I am wearing it as loose as possible. It doesn't really look like the right way of wearing it as it's not totally fitted to my head, but all I care about it looking after those little babies that have been put on my head to grow! Once all the scabs etc have gone around day 7-9 I'll go onto to wearing all the other hats I bought. I got a flat cap (farmer style!) 2 baseball hats, a funny furry kind of warm winter thing, and a Justin Timberlake style one for social nights. I've also got a standard beanie from the misses ;-)
Senior Member mm015 Posted January 7, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 7, 2014 By the way - all the swelling I had up to yesterday has completely gone. I did that massage thing a bit - maybe 5 times in total, but I guess it kind of sorted itself out
Regular Member JohnGage Posted January 8, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted January 8, 2014 Thanks for the updates. Are you still on pain killers? How about antibiotics? How long do you have to take it?
Senior Member mm015 Posted January 8, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 8, 2014 Hi JohnGage I only took the painkillers once - straight after the op. But I put the need for them down to my own fault - that of not drinking enough water during the procedure. It was more of a headache that I had. None since then. Antibiotics are a 5 day course which I've now completed. 1 in the morning and 1 at night. When is your procedure and is it with Dr Demirsoy? Regular Member JohnGage Posted January 8, 2014 Regular Member Share Posted January 8, 2014 Thanks for the reply. I haven't decided on a date yet. This will be my second procedure. I have done my first FUE HT 3 years back. Happy growing.
Senior Member mm015 Posted January 8, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 8, 2014 Looking forward to tomorrow when I can put the lotion on throughout the whole day and hopefully see a lot of these scabs come off. Also very excited to be able to lie in bed without worrying about the grafted area having any issues if it touches anything. Interestingly I can see the dark marks on the crown which I'm assuming are the grafts. I'm wondering how dense that area will look as they seem fairly spaced apart. Of course, if it is the grafts I'm looking at and they are 2/3 hair grafts, then it will obviously be thicker than how it looks at the mo.
Senior Member mm015 Posted January 11, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 11, 2014 Hey all, Day 9 and things are so much better. All scabs began to come off over day 7/8. I'm not almost at the point of going out without a hat in public. I quite like the skinhead look and have been told it suits me. Haha. Maybe I didn't need FUE after all?! Anyway, here's the pics. I find it amazing that I have hairs growing where there were none before. The front third of my head has massively improved and the crown isn't looking to bad either. Hopefully the red marking will begin to fade as that's the only give away at the mo. So I guess the stages to come are the growing, then the transplanted hair falling out, and then? Growth forever?! Cheers!
Senior Member mm015 Posted January 13, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 13, 2014 Been going out now without hats etc. No one has noticed a thing! Senior Member mm015 Posted January 21, 2014 Author Senior Member Share Posted January 21, 2014 Little update for you guys. The small cut on my head is where I knocked it on a locker door. I have hit my head a few times annoyingly, Hopefully the grafts aren't affected! The cut is the worst one but apart from that they have only been tiny knocks.
