Bill - Seemiller
Hariri, FUG stands for "follicular unit grafts". Thus, what Mick presented was accurate. Also, do understand that FUT and FUE are not two distinct procedures. FUT stands for "follicular unit hair transplantation". Strip surgery or FUSS (follicular unit strip surgery) and follicular unit extraction (FUE) are two sub-types or donor harvesting techniques associated with FUT. Since both strip and FUE use "follicular units" or "FUGs", they still fall under the umbrella of FUT. You can read more about this by reading the content we have on our website about follicular unit extraction. I hope this helps to clarify the issue. Best wishes, Bill

Senior Member Cant decide Posted June 20, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 20, 2013 I don't know much about FUE but can someone explain why a person who has 10000 available grafts via strip or strip/FUE combo cannot just use all 10000 via FUE? This guy did it but why are most not able to get 6000 grafts FUE even with above average donor density? What am I missing? Senior Member agenteye Posted June 21, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 21, 2013 I was wondering the same thing as Can't.....seems like an exceptional case to be able to use probably 95-100% of your total reserves all in a FUE procedure?! 4737 FUT with Dr. Rahal on 11/16/2012 Daily regimen: 1/4 Proscar (1.25 mg Finasteride), Rogaine Foam (twice daily), 1000 mcg Biotin, 1 combo Vitamin D/Calcium/Magnesium, 1500 mg Glocosamine, 750 mg MSM, 1200 mg Fish Oil, 2000 mg Vitamin C, Super B-Complex, 400 I.U Vitamin E. Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted June 21, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 21, 2013 Hariri, I actually agree with Bill on this one as well. What's more, I think there is even some more terminology confusion with regard to the term "FUT." I think Bill did a good job breaking this down, but I'll throw in my "two cents" as well: In the scalp, hair follicles grow in natural groupings (ranging from patterns of 1 to 4 follicles) called "follicular units." When extracted from the donor region and implanted into the recipient scalp in modern hair transplant surgery, these follicular units are referred to as follicular unit grafts or "FUGs." The process of extracting and implanting refined follicular units grafts (FUGs), opposed to micro or mini grafts (grafts made up of multiple follicular unit grafts), is called Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation or "FUT." The FUT procedure can be performed one of two different ways: 1. Via Follicular Unit Strip Surgery or "FUSS," where a strip of hair bearing scalp is removed and follicular unit grafts (FUGs) are isolated under microscopic dissection. 2. Via Follicular Unit Extraction or "FUE," where FUGs are individually removed from the donor region using a variety of punch-like extraction tools. I know this is very basic information, but hopefully it helps clarify the point! Frankly, terms like "FUG" and "FUT" are used incorrectly or interchangeably (a good example is when individuals refer to "FUSS" as "FUT") frequently online. Senior Member Mickey85 Posted June 21, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted June 21, 2013 I try to use the terms 'strip' or 'FUSS" for strip excision and FUE for FUE but sometimes I revert back to using FUT for strip out of habit hehe.
