After 2 hair Transplant Surgeries.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I have had 2 hair transplant surgeries in the past 2 years, and I swear I have about the same amount of hair I had before the surgeries.

The doctor I went to see is Carlos Spera, I have seen at least two members post about procedures done with him in 2008 and 2009, and I have gotten more or less the same results those two members had back 4-5 years ago.

Anyway, after 2 years, the last surgery was done in March last year. I still see a lot of separation in between the transplanted hairs, after having 3,000 hairs transplanted.(BTW, I was never completely bald, my problem is thinning hair and scalp can be seen in the crown, the top of my head and on the sides, but there was and still is hair even in the balding areas)

In the hairline I see follicles with 2, 3 and even 4 hairs, which I can notice easily, and when I pass my hand over my transplanted area it feels like I have sand in my hair. My natural hair is softer and it certainly does not feel like sand.

After reading the posts by members szubizar http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/139487-warning-dr-carlos-spera.html, and Babester http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/139069-did-hair-transplant-19-some-concerns.html I have to say that in 5 years it seems that the methods being used by Dr. Carlos Spera have not improved at all.

I was always rushed, even after having to wait 1 to almost 2 hours of waiting every time I went to see the doctor, and then he would talk to me for about 5 minutes at most, and would rush out every time.

I chose Dr. Spera because he is one of the closest doctors in my area and because of the amount of publicity he has, which I believed to make him a good doctor.

Whenever I would express my concerns, including the fact that they implanted follicles with 2,3 and 4 hairs in my hairline which doesn't look natural, he, and his techs would claim that it does look natural and that the amount of hairs in the follicles doesn't matter.

To my concern about the space between transplanted hair being too wide, they told me that they couldn't transplant hair any close to each other, but if this is true then no one who had hair transplanted would have a full natural looking set of hair.

Not only that, but the back of my head, the donor area, still feels numb and very sensitive. I am not sure if it is supposed to feel that way after over a year of recovery since the second hair transplant, and since I feel that Spera has been lying and dismissing my concerns, I am not asking him or his techs any more, and won't be seeking his services for any reason.

I am very disappointed with the procedures, and the responses by Dr. Carlos Spera and his techs, and I am considering another doctor to try to cover the areas that are still bald.

I live in the Hialeah/Miami area. I was looking at Bosley as a possible center but it would take almost 2 hours to drive to their boca raton office, and I am not sure they would be the best place for my hair restoration needs.

Why go to Bosley when you have great doctors that take pride in their work over how many 0's are at the end of their paycheck? Truth be told, you can get much better quality for an even greater price by not going to Bosley, considering you're going to most likely not be satisfied with your results.

If you are strict on staying in your area, there are quite a few coalition doctors in Florida whose results you can view on this site: Hair Transplant Clinics in Florida

However, if you're willing to travel (and there are many clinics that are recommended on this site who do offer travel assistance) I highly suggest checking out clinics elsewhere, depending of course on the results you want to obtain.

Nobody seems towant to posts pics to back up their stories, but in your area, I would get in touch with Glenn Charles in Boca Raton, he's one of the coalition surgeons on this site and I've had 2 transplants with him (I flew over 1000 miles, just drive the 2 hours, you already seen what settling for "close" does!). Steer clear of Bosley, I've heard nothing but horror stories about them.

I'm always perplexed why people don't want to travel for someone to cut into their head and alter it permanently. I traveled over 2000 miles for my doctor. The flight cost me $350 which was paltry compared to the investment the hair transplant was. I'm really truly sorry for your situation. Use the forum to find the doctor with the very best results or your favorite outcomes, select that doctor. That's your answer. I'd also recommend my bias choice in Dr. Konior because I know he does great repair work.

Your hair looks amazing!!! How long do you think it took before you got 100% results from your HT? Im at 7 months and had a little over 2800 grafts....My hair looks really good compared to before, But Im hoping for more.....

Let's go step by step: First of all, he's involved in a plethora of services...so that tells me he's not a hair specialist....which would've been reason enough to not even visit him. Second, marketing and being close to you are not good reason to consider him....big boo boo!! Third, read your information and you yourself will realize the reasons you should forget this guy and move on. You NEVER transplant 2-3 hair grafts in the frontal....no matter what. So if you're information is accurate, move on and find a specialist....even if you have to drive a long distance. I would consider an independent specialist instead of a big company. But be careful because in your area there are a few that don't do great work. I would consider Dr. Glen Charles in Boca Raton.

Thanks for all the responses. First of all, wish I could drive 2 hours but can't because of an injury, and even though before the injury I used to take frequent flights, I can't and won't anymore. These are the reasons why trying to find doctors close to my area in Miami, and part of the reason for choosing Spera.

Second of all, my reason for posting my experiences was for other patients who might be contemplating on seeing this doctor.

Third of all, my first procedure was to fill the crown of the hair. It was on the second procedure and AFTER the hair was transplanted that I noticed there were some 2-3, and even 4 hair grafts on my hairline.

Before these procedures the staff seemed to be professional and were courteous, and the doctor seemed to know what he was doing, but the problem is that he and his staff seem to be rushing as many patients as possible which is when the problems occur.

Yes, it was my mistake in choosing him but the past is the past, is the past. I can only try to correct my mistakes.

Anyway, thanks all again for the responses.

If you can't/won't travel outside of your city, you are more than likely going to head down a similar path with another procedure. I know of no good HT doctors in Miami, and I have been researching hair transplants for years. May I ask what the injury is that is preventing you from traveling?

Luis,

You can't travel to Boca Raton, Coral Gables, or Jupiter?
