Regular Member RocketMan Posted December 23, 2012 Regular Member Share Posted December 23, 2012 This is a little embarrassing, and I don't really like sharing information like this, but I am worried. I was intimate with a girl last night and during the business my penis went limp. The girl got really offended - and I knew straight away it must have been propecia (Merck), as this is one of the side effects. I have taken propecia since August, 3 days a week (Mon, Wed, Fri). I had bought the tablets a while back but never took them because I was cautious about the side effects, for that reason. Seriously I couldn't get it up again once it went down, this has never happened to me before and now I'm worried, because I only take it 3 days a week. My question is if I stop using it, should I be able to maintain a normal erection again, since I've only been on it roughly 4 months? Should I stop using it? What are the alternatives? I already use minoxidil and nizoral (I've heard debatable things about Saw Palmetto and carrying viagra at 23 y.o is dodgy). Your help would be much appreciated and please no laughing. Yes, your sides should go away...also they should go away with continued use...3x a week is almost nothing..it really could have been a mental thing:( Newhairplease!! Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted December 23, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted December 23, 2012 Sexual side effects have only been reported (officially) in 0.3 - 2% of Propecia users, and the vast majority of these reversed after stopping the medication. If the condition does not reverse itself after you've given the medication an appropriate amount of time to leave your system, I highly recommend making an appointment with your primary care physician. I know it's tough to share these personal issues, so I hope you find the advice helpful and worth your while! Please, feel free to ask any additional questions. Senior Member trapps99 Posted January 1, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted January 1, 2013 I still have a very hard time beileving its only maximun 2 percent have these sides....but anyways it does return to normal after you stop the meds, for me i was on for a few years and only after about 5-6 months i was back fully charged,,,, you can lose your erection and more importantly the desire......test replacement can help as well... Senior Member TommyLucchese Posted January 3, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted January 3, 2013 I wonder if it's all psychological? When I started propecia I had no care in the world about sides, I just wanted my hair. 3 years later my libido is still massive and I have no issues rising to the occasion. Could this be a case of - those who worry about the side effects end up getting them? I'm not saying I'll never get the side effects, maybe it'll happen one day - psychological or not. I just think it could maybe be a mental thing for those who worry about it before trying the medication...? 2,000 grafts FUT Dr. Feller, July 27th 2012. 23 years old at the time. Excellent result. Need crown sorted eventually but concealer works well for now. Propecia and minoxidil since 2010. Fine for 8 years - bad sides after switching to Aindeem in 2018. Switched to topical fin/minox combo from Minoxidil Max in October 2020, along with dermarolling 1x a week. Senior Member trapps99 Posted January 10, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted January 10, 2013 youre one of the lucky ones... when i first started you think it WONT happen, as youve been told it happens in less than 2% of users so you figure its a long shot that anything will go wrong... but as the months go on and after a year or so you think back and can really notice the difference.....it can be psychological for some but for me it was purely physical... Senior Member Bobilero Posted January 10, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted January 10, 2013 'Sexual side effects have only been reported (officially) in 0.3 - 2% of Propecia users,' This is a laughably inaccurate statistic conjured up from Merk. If you discontinue it your sides should go away. There is a small % in which they are permanent. The label now states this as a risk. It can take the guts of a year for some people. Can this junk, You have no idea what it is doing to your body and hormones. Try other alternatives and a HT. There will be a better and safer alternative to finasteride on the market 'hopefully' in the next few years.

Regular Member Jazzsnazz1 Posted January 24, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted January 24, 2013 that happens to me all the time, i think it has more to do with alcohol than propecia though in my case. (0bviously im on propecia as well) but sober sex i can get a 99% hard woody, 100% is morning wood which i still get and have been on propecia for 2 years

However, because it's the only "official" evidence we have, it's what I tend to stick with during these types of discussions. What's more, it is worth mentioning that the 0.3% number came from a Japanese study that wasn't funded by Merck. Regardless, I do feel for any individual suffering these side effects and welcome all members to share their experiences and opinions! Senior Member jackisback1 Posted January 29, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted January 29, 2013 My friend, I went through hell from what I attributed to Propecia. Then I got back on top (well, everything's relative....I've had failures to launch, but they've been rare). Then after my HT, I tried to take 1/4th. It just doesn't work for me. And if it doesn't work for you, don't do it, man. People in the gym come up to me sometimes when I'm putting in Rogaine telling me about how great Propecia is. They always have terrible body composition. Maybe that's a coincidence (older male, more likely to have worse composition), but DHT is actually an important male hormone, and not one I'd like to reduce unless it was only being reduced in an isolated area--my scalp. I can tell you my friend, it is not worth your penis. It really is not.

Senior Member nativeremdies Posted February 13, 2013 Senior Member Share Posted February 13, 2013 If you get sides, you need to stop. You can't power on through the sides, and the sides are not "psychological" We all know our own dicks really well. We know when we had to much to drink, or the chick is gross, or whatever. We know when our dick should be working but it isn't. If you get sides and keep taking the drug, you will end up dickless

Regular Member Faizy1992 Posted March 25, 2013 Regular Member Share Posted March 25, 2013 I'm surprised how can you even consider the risk. I started propecia and within 10 days it killed my erection. Now some time back again i started propecia just 1mg per WEEK and again i'm having weak erections so its a total NO NO for me. I wont ever take the risk again.
