dan2040 Posted November 7, 2012 Share Posted November 7, 2012 One day when I was looking in the mirror i noticed a spot on the top back of my head (I never look at the back of my head, so I'm not sure if this is out of the ordinary). I noticed that the spot is the Whorl in my hair, I was just trying to figure out if this is a normal Whorl or hair loss. There has been no thinning of my hair or any receding hair line in the front of my scalp. Also there is no exposed scalp where the Whorl is, it just easier to see the scalp through the hair. No one in my family has hair loss. We do all have fine hair. I was just wondering if this looks like a normal Whorl, or should I worry about hair loss. :confused: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you see a change in the next few months, or if you're very concerned about it now you can consult with recommended physician on this site to take a look and see if it's the beginning stages of thinning. At this point you would be catching it very early which is good, and you can use stabilizing medications such as rogaine foam or propecia. I am a consultant for Dr. True and Dr. Dorin. Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily Avodart 0.5 mg. daily Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily 5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily Biotin 1000 mcg daily Multi Vitamin daily Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? Take a clearer picture. 2 poor unsatisfactory hair transplants performed in the UK. Based on vast research and meeting patients, I travelled to see Dr Feller in New York to get repaired. Although it appears that there COULD be something going on other than just a natural whorl, any thinning is minimal at least....and it doesn't look like you have a whole lot to worry about at this stage of the game. And then some people just have a bigger scalp-show in their natural whorl, so you may not be losing any hair here at all. I'm sure a consultation with a restoration physician will give you the answers you seek! Just out of curiosity, are you taking any medications or tried Rogaine at all? Rogaine is specifically designed to treat the crown, and if started now can help to prevent loss, and in a lot of instances, regrow it! Just a suggestion if you're not already giving it a go.....as it worked really well for me personally!! Again, I wouldn't worry about your hair at all.....looks like you have a very full, thick head of hair. Generally hair loss happens due to stress,diet,less vitamins etc, we can not considered only one reason but there are different reason depend on person's health and check up. dan2040 Posted June 1, 2013 Author Share Posted June 1, 2013 So I decided to just keep in eye on my hair and in the last 7 months and I haven't seen any real change (I've attached a few pictures for comparison). Everything looks about the same so I think it might just be my natural Whorl. I'm thinking about still visiting the dermatologist because my scalp has been breaking out (almost like pimples on my scalp) and has become incredibly itchy. It also has been causing some increased shedding (though nothing that has affected my hair quality or density). I have no idea what is causing it and it happens very sporadically. @Dan: I haven't taken any medications (before or after the photos). I wanted to wait and see if there was any change before I went to the dermatologist or started taking any medications. I had a tiny bald spot when I was 21 , it stayed the same size for the next 5 or so years , but in the meantime the hair around it towards the front (frontal and mid scalp area) started thinning out in a diffuse pattern . After that damage, the crown blad spot started expanding again. Everyone has a different balding pattern. One of my friends who had a similar bald spot as I did back then , never thinned out anywhere else and he is happy with his hair as is , no meds or transplants . My dad is a NW6 , and he reached that stage before 40, so I knew when I first began balding that I likely had a lot more hairloss to come . I've never worried about hair loss as I have always had tons of thick hair. Recently I noticed the spot on the back of my head everyone is talking about. Don't know if it was there before or not and now I am really worried. The girl that does my hair didn't seem to think it looked out of the ordinary but now I can't stop examining it! I did a couple of research about hair loss and came across a site that have vitamins and shampoos. Have you guys heard about Rogaine and Propecia? They say it helps slow down hair loss.
