Bill - Seemiller Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 I recently received an email from a gentleman experiencing rapid hair loss. Is he experiencing genetic hair loss? What's your opinion?
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted March 30, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 30, 2012 Is that picture of the gentleman who asked the question? Sure looks genetic to me. Rapid loss could still be genetic but he may want to get some tests done to make sure it is not some other health issue. It could also be the wicked combo of stress/genetics. Stress can kickstart the genetic predisposition to lose hair. Bill - Seemiller Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 Aaron, The picture is actually unrelated, but yes I would agree with you that the man in the picture is clearly experiencing genetic hair loss. I also agree that stress may exacerbate the onset of male pattern baldness. Best wishes, Bill
Regular Member hiflyer Posted March 30, 2012 Regular Member Posted March 30, 2012 Looks absolute genetic loss to be .. My Uncle and a cousin have a similar kinda of hair loss . Long history in the family. Shedding of 200 hair is a worrying point. Never seen them go so quickly. It is possible that this is temporary for few weeks and it will slow down. Senior Member RCWest Posted March 30, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 30, 2012 All that hair was lost in only 2 months? Doesn't sound right, but I've seen guys go from thick hair to nothing in a short time. Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily Avodart 0.5 mg. daily Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily 5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily Biotin 1000 mcg daily Multi Vitamin daily Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1?
Senior Member gillenator Posted March 30, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 30, 2012 We may not have the full story from the individual because we never see the lifestyle of the person. For example yes a sudden onset of stress going untreated or unmanaged can advance the rate of progression. Stress alopecia however is more of a patchy loss pattern which can also manifest itself as alopecia areata. MPB can basically take on the recessionary type of loss or it's a diffusionary pattern that miniturizes the hair shafts over time and then eventually loss of density.
