Regular Member azaya Posted March 7, 2012 Regular Member Posted March 7, 2012 So i went to my GP, i was told my hair is thining in some parts (male pattern baldness). He printed off what i need to know about it from Patient.co.uk to have a read through and decide for my next appointment. He mentioned the two treatments would be Propecia (finasteride) And Minoxidil. Since i am 25 of age he suggested i start with minoxidil foam because he does not want me to suffer from any side effects. What would your thoughts about this be? and what shoud i do. I am left in confusion? Thanks
Senior Member Thehairupthere Posted March 7, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 7, 2012 You should not use propecia as it's only for men. On very rare occassions women can use it, but I'd be very surprised if it were ever appropriate for a 25 year old. Use minoxidil twice daily for at least 9 months that way you can see stabilization and possibly regrowth at that point. You should expect some shedding from this in the first 2-4 months and improvement after 6 months. I would take some photos of the areas now and then some after 9 months to see if there are any differences. If you are interested to see if you're a candidate for hair transplantation you can consult with a recommended physician from this forum and see where you stand. Regular Member azaya Posted March 7, 2012 Author Regular Member Posted March 7, 2012 Thehairupthere, cheers for that. What kind of minoxidil product is best possible? what would happen if i do happen to use propecia at my current age? I am a male. I do have a picture in my profile of my head to show my hair loss. Thank you
Senior Member mattj Posted March 7, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 7, 2012 There's no reason why you shouldn't use Propecia at 25. Guys much older and much younger use it. There can be side effects, but you don't know unless you try it. I checked your photo. You seem to have a diffuse hairloss pattern, meaning the hair is thinning across the entire balding area at once. Minoxidil comes as a liquid or as a foam, and in the UK it's known as Regaine (Rogaine in North America). Some guys choose the foam as they find it's easier to apply, but as you apparently shave your head then you'd probably find either are good for you. I am a patient and representative of Dr Rahal. Senior Member Thehairupthere Posted March 7, 2012 Senior Member Posted March 7, 2012 I apologize I mistakenly thought this was a female case...my apologies I don't know why I did. At 25 for a male propecia and minoxidil would be very beneficial for you. I am a consultant for Dr. True and Dr. Dorin. These opinions are my own.
