Regular Member dkle2 Posted January 6, 2012 Regular Member Posted January 6, 2012 Hi All, I've been taking Propecia for the 4 years and it has really helped stop my hair loss. The front of head has continued to recede but I have lost little hair behind my ear line. I recently moved to the UK from Australia and was wondering where to source the medication. Previously my GP in Australia would prescribe it to me but I'm not sure how it works in the UK. Could someone recommend a good and safe website I can purchase Propecia from? Thanks in advance.
Regular Member Dr. Glenn Charles Posted January 6, 2012 Regular Member Posted January 6, 2012 Do you live near a hair restoration physician. You can go the ISHRS.org website and look up all of the members that are practicing in the UK. I do know that Dr. Farjo has a clinic in Manchester. I am sure they would all be glad to give you a prescription for Propecia. Dr. Glenn Charles is a member of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians
Senior Member Ukresponder Posted January 6, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 6, 2012 Hi dkle2, Over here in the UK Propecia is not an NHS prescription drug, meaning a lot of Gp's don't really know much about it or like prescribing it. Either way you end up having to pay via a private prescription or a private consultation with a Gp who has experience prescribing for hair loss, unfortuntaley most GP's in the UK are driven to hit targets in the more imprtant parameters such as heart disease, diabetes etc and the like. Gp's don't like prescribing in areas they have no real body of experience in to get comfortable, so finidng these good guys is a bit of a headache locally. You can go via a number hair clinics but again you will be charged a heavy premium, which might make it financially difficult. uk finasteride.info is a safe legitimate site that many of us have gone through so you have an option there or if cost is not an issue go via a hair loss clinic. I wish I was in Australia! hope that helps UK R :)2250 Strip Dr Feller :)1900 Strip Dr Feller ----------------------------------- 2 Great HT's & Experiences -----------------------------------
Senior Member JayWalker Posted January 6, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 6, 2012 Alldaychemist.com as well. http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/journal.asp?CopyID=10024&WebID=2832 October 2011 - 1647 FUT - Dr Dorin January 2014 - 1580 FUT - Dr Dorin
Regular Member dkle2 Posted January 8, 2012 Author Regular Member Posted January 8, 2012 The Alldaychemist.com website appears significantly cheaper than the ukfinasteride.info website. Are there any differences between; finasteride, proscar and propecia? I'm currently taking Finasteride tablets and have been for the last 3 years. Just out of interest are these tablets safe to take long term? Thanks for your help.
Senior Member JayWalker Posted January 8, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 8, 2012 Proscar and Propecia are brand names, the active ingredient is Finasteride. Alldaychemist are great, cant go wrong. http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/journal.asp?CopyID=10024&WebID=2832 October 2011 - 1647 FUT - Dr Dorin January 2014 - 1580 FUT - Dr Dorin
Senior Member Dutch Posted January 9, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 9, 2012 I used to go to the GP every 3 months asking for a prescription repeat. Was very inconvenient since I had to leave work early to make it on time. Local chemist would then charge ?90 for 3 months supply, owner changed and new owner wanted to charge ?160 for 3 months. In the end went to Boots, asked for their Propecia Programme, now I get the tablets from Boots in a 6 months supply & no need for a prescription from the GP anymore. Still ?180 though. http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=2329
