Senior Member formertrackstar Posted June 3, 2012 Author Senior Member Share Posted June 3, 2012 I will contact them tomorrow.. I did talk to my patient educator about 2 weeks ago about getting some of the larger grafts removed from my hairline that the previous doctor implanted that look very stalky but decided to get my hair cut since. I just wanted to get everyone's opinion about the width of the scar since it is a tricho closure and a-cell was also used.. I am very happy with the work that they did with camouflaging the larger grafts that my previous doctor implanted into my hairline area and further back.. It is definitely a improvement.. I will also post pictures of my hairline and the work that is 17 months post op with my Nikon Digital Camera..

Senior Member formertrackstar Posted June 3, 2012 Author Senior Member Share Posted June 3, 2012 How short is your hair in that picture? What size guard did the barber use?? He used a number 4 guard.. Then he decided to use the scissors since the scar and line was showing..

Senior Member Davis91 Posted June 3, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted June 3, 2012 Well, you have acknoledged what everyone can clearly see: your front repair work looks great! The thing with the scar is that you've had several goes now and while there it is visible you note that you have a reaosnable number of grafts left in the bank, so any revision at this point may compromise your capacity to grab all of those in the future. You may just want to wait a few years and see how things progress. If you were absolutely dedicated to not having another HT strip surgery, you can look at putting beard hair into the scar. See Dr. Umar's work for example. You might be a candidae for beard/body hair FUE, which if you get lucky would allow you to cut much much shorter. But it will take several more surgeries and lots of cash to gamble on it working out.

I would never consider using beard hair, but may consider fue with body hair into the scar after I am all tapped out later down the road after I am stripped out.. I am on propecia and rogaine right now.. Somedays I fear that the propecia may cause damage later down the road. The propecia is keeping my native hair intact right now.. I just wish that this strip scar wasn't as wide as it is due to the fact that acell was used in the scar to promote healing.. Also tricho was used in the scar. Senior Member aaron1234 Posted June 4, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted June 4, 2012 formertrackstar, Must say that your hair looks pretty good. Substantial improvement. Sure, your scar is a little wide - it happens. Especially to us who have had 3 or more surgeries. With the short 4 guard cut you may want to apply some dermatch over the scar to camouflage. I wouldn't use clippers any more for hair cuts to be honest. Get a stylist who uses scissors all the time. You may need specialized hair cuts to disguise that scar a bit more - I know I do and it helps. any revision at this point may compromise your capacity to grab all of those in the future. You may just want to wait a few years and see how things progress. Not necessarily true. A scar revision could actually help you get more grafts in future surgeries. You may want to ask Dr. Ron about your options on that one. At 17 months post-op you could definitely start doing some scalp exercises to get ready just in case. Senior Member formertrackstar Posted June 4, 2012 Author Senior Member Share Posted June 4, 2012 I would just contact SMG with whatever concerns you have. It is possible that it is just cut way too short, but when you contact SMG they will be able to tell you what if anything you need to do. Orlhair, I am going to contact them.. Thanks
Senior Member Davis91 Posted June 4, 2012 Senior Member Share Posted June 4, 2012 Actually, I agree with the revision of my comment by Aaron. However, I have had differing opinions on this from HT surgeons. You could get more grafts in the future with a scar revision. But it can go the other way as well if the scar revision does not take and widens (this can happen). Bottom line to contact SMG, and also think long and hard how important it is to you at this time to try something surgical to cover the scar vs. non-surgical.
