I understand that, even after 30 days post-op, you should still avoid any exercises that stretch the neck, especially a chin-into-chest stretch.

Other than situps, what other specific exercises should be avoided? It seems to me that virtually everything else (including bench, upright rows) should be OK. Thoughts?

NO!!!!!

Anything that you really have to strain, i.e. bench, squats, etc..should be avoided...strain can cause the scar to stretch! Avoid for how long, I don't know, but Im going at least 4 months! I will just do cardio for about the first six months after surgery..

Sit in your recliner looking straight up at the ceiling for 3 months to keep tension off the wound :) Seriously, go easy as you can for as long as you can. Why risk it now.

Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily

Avodart 0.5 mg. daily

Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily

5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily

Biotin 1000 mcg daily

Multi Vitamin daily

Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? :D

There are many threads in this forum about excercise, but check out this one at:

An occupational therapist and s couple of guys that knew what they were talking about weighed in on the conversation. From everything I researched and read about it, I was back to lifting light weights and cardio after a couple weeks, and back to full work-out routine a couple weeks after that. And my doc says my scar looks great.

I'm a gym freak. My doctor told me to wait at least a month untill after the strip surgery to lift heavy things, as to not strain the scar. With a lot of patience (it sucked, cause I could feel my body losing strength!) I waited a whole 3 months before resuming my gym schedule. I even adjusted my schedule to make it lighter, but my scar still stretched...

Maybe I should have waited at least 6 months, or maybe the scar would have stretched anyway (like it depends on other things), I don't know...

There is no need to wait 3 months. Please read the "post-op exercise" link that put in my post above. As Radius also said, I think there are many other factors that can affect it. Each individual heals differently as I am sure diet can affect it as well. I am a gym and health freak and eat all the right foods.

Again, I was doing heavy lifting about a month after, and my doc said there is no stretching.

Everyone should read the link above...Especially what the doctor/rehabilitation specialist says.

Im about 3 weeks post-op and will start cardio up this weekend and thinking about weights at 50% capacity sometime after. I read the post with the occupational therapist's comments. Does anyone have any back and shoulder exercises that won't affect donor? When I do resume weight training, I plan to go light for awhile and max out on reps rather than weight. Thanks guys.

I think that sounds like a good plan. I guess I didn't say that, but yes, I definitely started out actually around 50 percent of weight. I didn't just jump in. Sorry, don't have any suggestions for exercises - don't feel qualified to give them if I did. good-luck man.
