First Steps and First Clinic Visit

Hi Everyone

 

Just wanted to share my first experience of trying to do something about my hair loss.

Been obviously nagging away for many years and eating away at self esteem confidence etc.

 

So after being bombarded with ads mainly in sports pages of daily London papers

I finally decided to pay one of the more seemingly*'experienced' clinics a visit.

 

I just wanted to share my experience of a hair loss clinic not hair transplant as i was just taking my first steps in eduacting myself about the condition and maybe share/echo others views.

 

On visit to the clinic was told to wait for consultation. Little later was called into what looked like a room of temporary construction with a young female ' consultant' who asked some brief questions about health. Two photos were taken of crown and top of scalp. These were displayed on the computer monitor.*

 

In what felt like minutes was told I had MPB. I did try to ask questions and personalise my condition with regards to stress , dandruff , hair care routines but this was largely overlooked.

The only education was regards the background on DHT, How minoxidil and propecia work and their side effects.

 

After about half an hour was shown back to waiting room and then visited another consultant who was more experienced and 'polished' in her sell. She went through details of DHT success rates pictures of patients and lead times and then BANG the cost of treatments. I was litle taken aback even though '1 y supply ,would almost halve the costs'

 

 

I was very close to signing there and then but relented because I said I wanted to check whole thing with my partner. I haven't called back. I left the clinic feeling worse about my condition then before and felt like just another 'sale'.

 

Anyway thought I'd share this with the knowledgeable folk on here and wonder if I was little

ignorant/ naive in thinking anything more constructive would happen.

Before I plough headlong and order these . I assume Finasteride is another name for Propecia?

Also what are the forums thoughts on these , effectiveness and side effects and Minoxidil? Is Rogaine just a brand name for these products. Excuse the nature of my basic questions.
