Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted December 6, 2011 Regular Member Posted December 6, 2011 This fellow, and the other fellow described in “part 2”, are interesting in that they have the same problem—frontal hair loss, and chose to deal with it differently. Both heard exactly the same talk about the trade offs of FUE vs Strip in terms of scarring risk, success or consistency of results, time and effort, and cost. I’ve blogged on all of these before and in general I feel that if you’ll just keep your hair a half inch long or more, and that if you need or may need a lot of hair….strip is the way to go. However, if you are planning on very short hair, FUE is the better option no matter how good the scar turns out. Plus, FUE definitely stresses the hair root more during extraction than just careful dissection out of a strip. And I believe that inconsistently affects FUE results more than the fairly consistent results with strip. Additionally these 2 guys have the added issue of being black. This alters things 2 ways. First, they are at higher risk of hypertrophic scarring than whites…which would tend to push things toward FUE. And second, their hair roots are really curved, making them harder to FUE out than straight haired individuals…which would tend to push things toward strip. Shown are periop pics, 1 week suture removal pics, and app 2 month pics that the patient emailed me. He lives some distance away and per our last email, he said his scar was great. I have encouraged him to send lots of pics and call with any problems as there is a finite window of about 3 months to deal with scar problems. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA William H. Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted March 2, 2012 Author Regular Member Posted March 2, 2012 So this fellow sent pics yesterday at 6 months. I've asked him to come on and post so as to tell his experience and why he chose strip. He looks good and hopefully I'll get some in person pics this fall. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA William H. Regular Member AcuraBoi Posted March 18, 2012 Regular Member Posted March 18, 2012 (edited) Had surgery on sept 12, 2011 with DR Lindsey and his staff of skilled technicians. I went in at about 730ish they were on time I was late. And i walked out around noon. First off the procedure was easier than I thought, faster than I thought, and virtually pain free. The first six shots to the back of the head were uncomfortable, but not a real big deal. I didnt take a valium on account i was going back home same day and i had about a 2 hour drive. The procedure was easy and painless I didn't need to take one I just went to sleep. We drew out the hairline pre-op and after the shots to numb things up the strip was excised, again not a big deal all I felt was a little tugging other than that nothing. Then Dr L and the tech I believe her name was Wendy closed my head back up then we moved on to making the holes for the grafts to be placed in. Once those were done I believe i dosed off. A little while later i woke up and the two ladies were placing the grafts in my scalp and that was that. We were initially shooting for 1000 to 1200 grafts but we got more I think it was around 1400 grafts Dr L knows the actual number all i know is that we got more than we thought but i didnt have to pay more i paid what we agreed upon at the consultation and I had no problem with that. Let's you know that their practice is legit and fair, not just trying to squeeze extra dollars out of you. My scar...what scar? Is HARDLY even visible. I'm glad i did it I'm glad i went with the best and if you're scared of getting it done...stop being a wuss and check out Dr Lindsey and his skilled staff in McLean,va. If you want more feedback my personal email is acuraboitsx@Gmail.com. I will be seeing Dr L for another procedure later down the road if this propecia doesn't stop the thinning in my crown. Again excellent staff excellent Doctor EXCELLENT results....period. Need I say more. I wil be posting pics of my 6 month progress without toppik and with it until my hair thickens to where i dont need it. Edited March 18, 2012 by AcuraBoi spellcheck

Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted April 3, 2012 Author Regular Member Posted April 3, 2012 Thanks for posting your story. I'll attach those pics you sent me while I was out of town which are about 2 weeks later than the pics above, so by my calender that puts you about 6.7 months postop. I believe you have toppik in these pics but perhaps you could clarify. Stop by sometime and keep growing. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA William H.
