Hi all,

My wife and I have been trying to have a baby for the past 8 months (with no luck). As a precaution I got off propecia. Does anyone know if propecia contributies to pregnancy abnormalities? I'd like to get back on it, but am worried about the implied risks. I hope someone can shed light on the matter.

Thanks!

Jimmy

Tanjoui,

I recently quit finasteride for the same reason at the urging of my wife. I'm also trying to find out if it was contributing to a severe round of acne I've been hit with.

Anyway, to answer your question, if my wife had not been concerned with it and it were not for the breakouts, I would have been very confident continuing the drug through conception and beyond.

Merck's official stance of the subject is that there is no danger and several members here have reported healthy births while taking the drug.

The official Propecia website is currently not available so I was unable to provide the official statement from Merck but you have read this article from Dr. Rassman's' Balding Blog.

Spex fathered twins a few years ago while on Finasteride. It's no problem as long as the MOTHER doesn't come into contact with the drug.

Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily

Avodart 0.5 mg. daily

Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily

5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily

Biotin 1000 mcg daily

Multi Vitamin daily

Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? :D
