Regular Member Chael Posted December 1, 2011 Regular Member Posted December 1, 2011 8 weeks post op, and just above my hair line where most of the grafts went, i big pimple formed, with center full of puss... another one today when i got home from work never ever had a pimple like this in my scalp... when do pimples start developing? does this mean some growing activity has started under my scalp... in your experiences, how long after your op did they start appearing and for how long did they last? many thanks fellow transplanters
Senior Member Thehairupthere Posted December 1, 2011 Senior Member Posted December 1, 2011 The pimples are coming in a bit early, but pimples are very normal part of the growing process. The hairs are starting to protrude and they cause pimples, but they will go away, try to keep it clean but do not pop them. You may get more over the next month usually you see this around 3-4 months post op and it can last several weeks. I am a consultant for Dr. True and Dr. Dorin. These opinions are my own. Dr. Robert True and Dr. Robert Dorin are members of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians
Senior Member aaron1234 Posted December 1, 2011 Senior Member Posted December 1, 2011 Pimples are totally normal. The fact that you are getting them this early is probably a good sign. Just monitor them closely and make sure they don't turn into a case of folliculitis. Regular Member Chael Posted December 2, 2011 Author Regular Member Posted December 2, 2011 Thanks for the response guys. At this stage it's only been 2 pimples. They both had a life span of about 1 day and healed.
Senior Member blkblk Posted January 26, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 26, 2012 uh oh... don't pop them? I started getting them at about week 4.5. I've had about 5-6 so far and have been popping them once I see puss build up. Any particular reason why I shouldn't be doing this? they aren't very pretty if I just leave them! I've also been growing small hairs since about week 3, so it seems like things are happening really quickly for me - although there are no way near enough to make much of a visible difference. Week 6 has just gone by and I probably have about 20-30 new hairs in my temples max.
Senior Member tarepanda Posted January 26, 2012 Senior Member Posted January 26, 2012 I also got this pimple issue and i am only 6 weeks. I think it is more of my oily skin than new hair growing for my case. How to i deal with them if i don't pop them. Is it ok to apply pimple cream i.e. Benzoyl peroxide on it? The pimple has been 2-3 days n is getting bigger.
Regular Member sea of possibilities Posted January 26, 2012 Regular Member Posted January 26, 2012 from hassonandwong.com: During this time the patient may also notice the formation of an acne like condition in the recipient area. This is normal and is only some of the new hairs trying to grow through the scalp. Sometimes these can become temporarily trapped under the skin like an ingrown hair but the condition is temporary. This is a positive sign of new growth! I say have your doctor pop them, or if you do it yourself (if the thing is edgy), make sure you do it in a sterilized way (handkerchief and betadine). above all, make sure you don't abuse the area. and no nails at all! be gentle.
