Ethanjorg Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Does HT mean that i'll have to take Propecia for the rest of my life? or will I be able to stop taking it?
rvenkat Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 (edited) Ethanjorg, To put it straight, You would loose your native hairs (not the transplanted hairs) if you stop taking Propecia. People who undergo HT are usually prescribed/advised to take Propecia or Finasteride to save their native hairs. Otherwise chances are that you might loose you native hairs and you would be chasing HTs entire life and also run out of donor. So it makes sense to take Finasteride post HT. rVenkat Note : All opinions are my own and my advice should not be considered as medical advice. Edited November 11, 2011 by rvenkat Note was missing
Senior Member Dr. Scott Alexander MD Posted November 12, 2011 Senior Member Posted November 12, 2011 It depends on where you are losing your hair and what your family history is like. There are a lot of factors involved. If you are losing your hair in the front you will probably be good with a transplant and not lose a ton more. If you are losing in the crown area, you will mostly likely lose more if you don't stay on Propecia. Again, family history is a big factor too. It is up to you though how long you are willing to stay on the medication. - Please feel free to visit our website : Dr. Scott Alexander website and online consultation form Dr. Alexander is an elite member of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians
