Regular Member geoffrecession Posted October 20, 2011 Regular Member Posted October 20, 2011 Let me know what you guys think of these pics. Mature hairline or MPB. If you think it is the latter, what should I do?
Regular Member geoffrecession Posted October 20, 2011 Author Regular Member Posted October 20, 2011 Anyone?
Senior Member kathie47 Posted October 21, 2011 Senior Member Posted October 21, 2011 it looks like a mature hairline to me...but without any before pics to judge the amount of hair loss, it's hard to tell.

Senior Member mattj Posted October 21, 2011 Senior Member Posted October 21, 2011 It's tough to say as the real test is whether you continue to lose hair. I know that's no help at all but that's the reality. You might want to check for miniaturizing hairs along the hairline as they can be the first sign that you're set to lose more hair. At this time, though, your hairline looks solid. It's a good shape. I am a patient and representative of Dr Rahal. Regular Member geoffrecession Posted October 22, 2011 Author Regular Member Posted October 22, 2011 I do have miniaturized hairs along the temples. There are shorter hairs hanging off the frontal hairline but I am not sure if that means they are miniaturizing. Does a mature hairline recede at the front of the hairline? This is seems to be the new direction of the hair loss. If you guys were in my position, what would you do? I am currently taking 2% minoxidil. Should I switch to 5% Should I start propecia? Looking forward to your replies. Thanks!
Regular Member geoffrecession Posted October 23, 2011 Author Regular Member Posted October 23, 2011 Any thoughts? Any insight would be so helpful. I don't really have anywhere else to turn. My Doc suggested I just shave it when it gets bad.
Senior Member gasto Posted October 27, 2011 Senior Member Posted October 27, 2011 I wouldn't worry. How about a picture of the crown. By the way, stress can trigger Male Pattern baldness at much younger age, so don't stress too much over whether you are loosing hair or not...
Regular Member geoffrecession Posted October 27, 2011 Author Regular Member Posted October 27, 2011 I've been paying a lot of attention to my crown. It is solid for now. I thought hairs lost by stress would regrow? The last two years have by far been the most stressful years of my life. Although I would like to not stress over my hairloss, it has become an obsession. I pull my hair back constantly to look for more loss. Thing that scares me is that it shows no sign of slowing down. It has been progressing at the same rate for the last two years. I feel like if I started Propecia and continued on Minoxidil, at least I would know I'm doing everything possible to slow it down. I hate being in this in between stage where I have to constantly asses whether or not it is a mature hairline or MPB. I almost want it to speed up so I can just confirm it is MPB, treat it, and move on with my life. My temples have been receding for awhile. My frontal hairline used to be solid about a month ago and is now thinning all the way across the hairline. I thought that a mature hairline only receded at the temples. What do you guys think? Thanks for all the responses. I am looking forward to your answers;)
Senior Member gasto Posted October 27, 2011 Senior Member Posted October 27, 2011 (edited) I thought hairs lost by stress would regrow? Thanks for all the responses. I am looking forward to your answers;) No, they don't regrow if stress caused Male Pattern Baldness. There are some scientific studies on this, I don't remember where I read it, I guess a search engine might answer that for you. The last two years have by far been the most stressful years of my life. Then a great solution would be to hinder as much stress as possible. Stress is a normal hormonal response to difficult situations, these in the past were presented as wolves rounding a tribe and menacing to eat their food or them, now it is your boss telling you the job was mediocre even though you tried your hardest, if that happens every now and then, no problem, the body can deal with that, but given that our idiotic society demands us to work 40 hours a week, it is understandable that humans are supporting unprecedented levels of cortisol, hence unprecedented levels of Male Pattern Baldness in young ages. The best you can do is sleep well, and jog and lift weights everyday (I underline everyday because it's been scientifically studied that males reduce testosterone levels for the next 24 hours after intense physical exercise). You don't know whether you suffer from Male Pattern Baldness or not, and you have not updated pictures of your crown and hairline, so there's no way we can help you out. I hate being in this in between stage where I have to constantly asses whether or not it is a mature hairline or MPB. I almost want it to speed up so I can just confirm it is MPB, treat it, and move on with my life. You have no idea of what you are talking about. People hear take Finasteride because they want to preserve their looks, but side effects are nasty and nobody in their sane judgment would ever want them. It's like wanting to speed up anemia by eating little just to see if a nutrition supplement works. My temples have been receding for awhile. My frontal hairline used to be solid about a month ago and is now thinning all the way across the hairline. I thought that a mature hairline only receded at the temples. What do you guys think? Again, no new pictures provided(of all the head, in at least 5 different angles), hard to give advice. Edited October 27, 2011 by gasto
Senior Member mahhong Posted October 27, 2011 Senior Member Posted October 27, 2011 Stress-induced hairloss would likely grow back, but stress-accelerated MPB probably wouldn't. I had a stressful year last year and I'm fairly confident it accelerated my hairloss, but as it was MPB hairloss, I didn't see any growth back! It's worth discussing with a doctor about going on propecia but it's primarily useful in vertex and crown loss and doesn't offer a lot of hope for men looking to maintain or strengthen their hairline (there are examples out there, but they are generally the exception and not the rule). If you're not seeing loss in the crown region though it's still debatable whether this is MPB or not and I guess you have to wait a bit to really see how it develops. Propecia is a safe drug but if you're not definitely experiencing MPB then it's best not to take it. To me your photos don't necessarily indicate MPB but it's not easy to tell from photos alone. If you're worried and your doctor is happy to put you on propecia then I'd say go for it - but the downside is that might not necessarily slow or regrow any loss in the hairline.
Regular Member geoffrecession Posted October 27, 2011 Author Regular Member Posted October 27, 2011 Thank you so much for your response Gasto. I am sorry for the statement I made about wanting my hair loss to speed up. Obviously I don't want this to happen and I am sorry if I offended anyone. I was only expressing my frustration with the slow progression of loss. One day I would think my hair loss was slowing down and the next day it would speed up again. Stress would definitely be a factor then. My stress was the result of my father passing a year ago. Ever since I have been stressed out all the time. I do weight lift 3 times a week, however I thought that this increased testosterone production? I do have more updated photos with a better camera on another post. - http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/163511-should-i-start-propecia-pics-availible.html keep in mind my hair looks a lot thinner in the front. It looks stronger when I pull my hair back tight. I will take the to get some crown shots. Thanks again for your response. I am new to this world. it's nice to know people care. Cheers
Senior Member gasto Posted October 28, 2011 Senior Member Posted October 28, 2011 (edited) I do weight lift 3 times a week, however I thought that this increased testosterone production? Yes it does. Prolonged Anaerobic exercise combined with aerobic exercise does that trick(to reduce testosterone levels). " Studies conducted on endurance athletes who exercise for long stretches of time at once were shown to have testosterone levels up to 85% lower than people who do not perform endurance exercises. raul Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Hi guys. I have been losing a lot of hair over the last year. Mainly at my hairline. I always get lots of hairs fall out in my hands doing showers and when u run my hand through it and when applying hair gel. I blow dry my hair as it does not look good when wet as you can see that the front has thinned a lot. Please look at the picture and let me know if I will continue to lose hair and keep on receding or ifIt will stop. No one in my family is bald. My brother and father have great hair. My mother has under active thyroid and is looking some hair.
Senior Member gasto Posted November 9, 2012 Senior Member Posted November 9, 2012 Your hair looks fine to me.
Bill - Seemiller Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Raul, The good news is, you still have a lot of hair and only mild recession if any at this point. Unfortunately however, there is no way to predict with any degree of certainty how much hair you will lose. I encourage you to consult a hair restoration specialist who can perform a miniaturization test to determine if you are seeing signs of genetic pattern baldness. Alternatively, your hairline may just be maturing and hair loss may not be a continued problem for you. If it is determined that you are most likely experiencing genetic hair loss, you can always consider researching and trying proven hair loss treatments like Propecia and Rogaine. Best wishes, Bill
Anthony24 Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Anyone know whether I have a mature hairline or receding?
Dr Blake Bloxham Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Anthony, You probably will not garner too many responses because this was posted in a previously existing thread and not a new one you started yourself. It could be either depending on your age. How old are you? Having said that, the recession in the corners looks more aggressive for classic hairline maturation. This, in my opinion, is more likely the early start of male pattern hair loss. Are you noticing changes anywhere else? What is the family history of hair loss like? Anthony24 Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 21, my fathers brother has a receding line so bad that he stopped growing hair on the top sides of his head. My father still has his hair and hes 58 his brother is in his 60's my mother's side never had hairloss and shes in her late 50's. And no, I haven't noticed changes anywhere else I have hair everywhere and I've been growing it out for quite some time with no problems like hairloss
Anthony24 Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Other than that, neither side of my parents family has hairloss problems.
Dr Blake Bloxham Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Hi Anthony, Thank you for sharing this additional information. 21 is definitely still the "uncertain" age where it could be either. The fact that your brother had the same receding corners and the degree to which yours have progressed, however, does lead me to believe this may be male pattern hair loss. Can you consult with a trusted hair loss doctor? He/she should be able to evaluate, determine what may be going on, and make some treatment recommendations. Dr Blake Bloxham Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 Hi Anthony, I apologize. I read "father's brother" as "brother." Skipped over the "father's" part entirely for some reason. Regardless, I still think this is likely the beginning of genetic male pattern hair loss and would recommend undergoing an evaluation in-person if possible. Typically it is best to identify this early, intervene quickly, and slow the process down to preserve as much hair as possible for as long as you can. Good luck. Dan Herbert Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 Hi I'm 22 /will be 23 in February noticed my hairline has been changing since the end of me being 21 6 months off being 22 , have thick wavy hair , my dad didn't start loosing her until he was about 39/40 and he 49 now and almost bald at front of his hair but no grey hair , I don't think his hairline receded he has no grey hair , my dad could start growing a beard and shaving at like 16 he had jet black hair and looking at pictures quite thin and dead straight his dad lost his hair at like 30/40 I think and went grey quite young I think coz looking back he had alot of grey when his dad was 50 , and my dad's dads dad (great grandad) is bald too However my mum has thick brunette hair and she 43 and her dad (my grandad ) is 74/75 and has a very far back mature hairline looked back at a picture of him at 24 and his hairline was very far back then and my nan said it receded and stopped and I'm nearly 23 and mine isn't as far back as that yet but my grandad now 74 and now has the exact same hairline as when he was 24 and thickness but now just grey obviously and has all his hair still and is pretty much all grey now and his dad my( great grandfather) had hair until he died but he did once loose it apparently and then it grew all back again and stayed until he died , my mum's dad my grandad his son which is my uncle and my mum's brother who is like 45 has hair with a mature hairline The question I'm asking is , is my hairline just maturing and changing from my juvenile/ teenage hairline into an adult as I'm growing and getting older and have a similar hairline to my grandads or what ? Or is receding , I have changed alot in appearance too the last year and abit since I have turned towards 22 not too sound big headed but when I was younger I was abit weird looking and now everyone calls me pretty boy and says how good looking I am and how I look like young George Michael or Casey Cody Johnson or greek or Italian When I was younger I had pure brown eyes and my mum and dad have green but apparently some great nan in my family had brown eyes but now I'm getting older they have turned more hazel and have a mixture of brown and green Mum's features I have her tanned skin Lips Teeth Moles Maybe her hair colour not sure?
