Hey spence - I noticed my hair shredding more and more around age 15 and when I turned 17 my hairloss was evident but thanks to Propecia I have kept a substantial amount of my hair - Meaning that the hairloss is evident and I can't cover it up but at this stage, 1 transplant would suffice (if Propecia can help it stay this way).

Get on Propecia. I just began Rogaine so I can't tell you about that drug from personal experience. You won't grow back most of the hair you lost - it is really rare and even if you do, the benefits don't last forever.

There is one benefit to hairloss that I think we can all agree on - it helps you think about improving other aspects of your body/mind - getting fit, a better personality, experimenting with different styles of facial hair and etc.

I personally get a high and tight hair cut and that works decently for me. Try different hairstyles - since you have hair at the front and none at the back, why don't you let the front hair grow a bit more than the hair at the top of your head and shave everywhere else?

You guys, I'm at a loss. I don't know what to do....

There is nooo way I can see a dermatologist right now.

I have to depend on you guys. I neeeeed to know, what meds do you guys suggest I use? Tell me what to buy and how I can get it.

Should I not use the rogaine foam??

What should I do?

Trying to get in the entertainment industry is hard enough, and I can't have thin, balding hair hold me back!

Thanks guys.

Jspence,

What happened to your dermatologist appointment on November 17th? And why can't you get to a dermatologist? A dermatologist can help you determine the root cause of your hair loss. Members of a discussion forum cannot.

If your hair loss is genetic however, Propecia and Rogaine are your best chances medically at saving your existing hair and potentially thickening it.

Best wishes,

Bill

Dude,

I saw your photos and don't think you need to waste your money seeing a dermatolagist. I'm 99.9% certain that you have aggressive MPB to be balding that much in the crown at age 18. I've seen countless guys who looked like you at 18 and are now 25-30 and completely bald (Norwood 6/7).

Just pay a visit to a local family doctor and get proscribed the Proscar. This is your only hope to maintain what you have a little while longer. Notice I said "maintain what you have now". Don't expect to EVER get the hair back that you had 4 years ago; you're just chasing a ghost of the past if you do that.

MPB is like a death sentence for your hair follicles. Proscar might be able to delay it for a little while, but eventually (with aggressive MPB in young guys like yourself) the executioner (DHT) is going to come to your cell and take you away to the gas chamber.

If you want to make it in the entertainment industry I'd suggest going the comedian route -- something that baldies can pull off pretty good !

And to the rat above you, I don't want to be a comedian...

Do a google search for "buy proscar online". You'll find a bunch of online pharmacies that don't even require a script.

And as far as the entertainment biz goes, I know 2 musicians who are considered genuises by many people. One is a guitarist, and the other a piano player composer/singer. Both are balding noticably. When I say these people are genuises I am not kidding; they write, compose and perform music that leaves listeners stunned and scratching their heads as to why these guys are not world famous. They are both more original and more talented than 99.9% of every band you see on TV and at those stupid award ceremonies. And this is NOT just my opinion, but also the opinion of thousands who have been at their shows and seen them perform and heard their records.

They have both told me that nobody in the biz (agents, managers, lawyers, producers, etc.) would even bother listening to their music because they are balding. The looks come first before talent is even considered. Both guys said if they could go back in time they'd forget about music as a career and do something else, as that's how superficial and disgusting the biz has become. They both survive by being waiters in restaurants and living below the poverty level. From music they might make $3000 per year if they're lucky, this is what they have told me. And these are mega talents, 1 out of 10,000 types -- yet nobody in the biz cares. They couldn't even get somebody "connected" in the industry to listen to one of their recorded songs. Just one look at a photo and that was it, "next please!"

Actors even have it worse these days. icon_redface.gif

Labrat,

That's so disappointing as acting is what I want to do...it sucks but I figured I would just get a hair transplant when I get rich and famous and until then I will just keep it short sometimes or grow it out and keep it styled to where it isn't really noticeable. It may not sound like a fantastic plan, but it's all I got right now...

Hey man,

I'm not saying to give up on your dream at all !! The bottom line in life is that if you want something bad enough then you will get it, but at what expense to your mental and physical health ?

You just need to have a THICK ARMOR in the entertainment biz, especially these days. You have to be ready to outsmart all these lame-ass agents and managers who couldn't see world class talent if it was standing right in front of them.

You just need to be prepared for ALOT of rejection and snobbery from these a-holes. If you get rejected 10,000 times don't let it stop you because it very well may be the 10,001 time that you actually land the gig that propels you to stardom!

Oh yeah, and DO NOT wait until you are rich and famous to deal with your hair issues. You may never get there thinking like that !! You'll actually find that there are mostly women standing in your way to the halls of fame, and these are some of the most cut-throat, mean, snobby, heartless and judgemental slimebags to walk the earth. If you can "charm" them in the slightest degree your chances of making it will be 1000X greater !

Yeah I mean I don't plan on giving up on my dreams, and I already expect snobby *** and *** lol.... but, what I meant about hair/waiting until I was rich and famous... I meant I wanna solve it now and keep it thick, but once I get famous and rich, I can then be able to afford to geta hair transplant etc lol

Ps...I'm thinking about shaving my head and starting rogaine foam immidiently after. Sound good?

Also, what sites have any of you guys used to buy procepia/proscar/etc??

Thanks

by the way...check out my new plan, I just posted it in another forum.

First thing:

I'm pretty young, I'll turn 19 in May.

My hair starting thinning around my junior year, and now being a freshmen in college, it is BEYOND AWFUL.

These pictures were taken last semester: http://tinypic.com/a/1cdwo/1

Alright. I've decided that I'm fixing to go order the '4 Can Rogaine Foam' Package on AMAZON.COM, it'll cost me about $70 but thats way cheaper than Walmart!

Anyhow, I want to combine it with Propecia, Proscar or that Fin word, Finastride? Anyways.

I DO NOT have the money to go see a dermatologist right now, things are a little crazy money-wise at the house, and I'm saving up for a billion summer trips...

I've read that you can buy the drugs online. I'm just confused a little bit.

Proscar or Propecia, which one would I have to cut in fourths? Which one is cheaper? They are basically the same right? ANYTHING you could tell me about this would be amazing.

I also plan to shave my ENTIRE head, and then start applying the foam. As soon as I can get my hands on those pills I will be taking them as well.

Do you guys think thats a good idea?

I will be taking pictures every month. (I know I won't see results every month, I just want to be able to compare!)

So what do you guys think?

Reply asap!!

Thanks so much!

Jordan.

Hi Jordan,

Your quandary is endearing because we have all been there. I was about 25 when I started thinning. If you think you might be thinning and you get started on finasteride at a young age, you will have the most success -- especially in the crown area.

Thinning in the front may be helped by Propecia (generic is called Finasteride) but there were not enough scientific studies to tell conclusively). Overall, it is a very benign drug to take.

Don't listen to the nonsense about side-effects either. If you are worried about loss of libido you can always stop taking it or take Viagra. I've heard every nonsense about propecia side effects and in 8 years of taking it I have experienced none of them.

Currently, my insurance covers generic finasteride, so if you are able to get on your parents' insurance, you can probably get a script for generic finasteride, whose brand name is proscar. Then, cut each table into quarters or fifths (quarter is fine) and take one a day.

Without insurance your pharmacy will charge about $90 but that will last four months. If you're in the US, I'd recommend against buying from an international pharmacy without a prescription for two reasons. Reason #1 is that you want to be certain you are getting safe, effective product. Reason #2 is that it is illegal and you don't want to be on the wrong side of a sting operation.

I think you're in the perfect age group to benefit from the new insurance reform, and soon you'll be able to buy insurance with prescription drug coverage and then you'll be able to afford proscar.

Now, having said all of that, once you get stabilized on a daily tablet, you should start setting aside a little bit of every paycheck into a "me" fund. Do it with direct deposit or get a money market mutual fund or something. Save up for that hair transplant. In 5 years, if you find your hair has regrown naturally, go get yourself a BMW or something icon_wink.gif If you have lost more hair, you can always use that for an HT, or just get a BMW or something icon_wink.gif

Hope this helps, and hang in there, kiddo.

I just shaved my head completely. Some hair has grown back.

I had a debit card issue and now I'm not getting the foam until the end of April/beginning of May...

but here's some pics. I think it will be a good starting point for the foam. What do you think?

Hey man I am in the same boat as you, although propecia has stabilized my MPB.

Started noticed more hair strands falling out at age 15. At age 17, I noticed recession and here I am at age 20, a NW3V.

It ain't easy but you gotta roll with it and keep your hopes up. Why? A good HT is now possible, all you need is patience, knowledge, decent donor characteristics and some money icon_biggrin.gif

For your level of loss, try a shave or a buzz. You can use hats but if you think you will not b getting an HT in the future, I don't recommend them, because then you just get used to it.

Why would the rogaine foam be useless? I just bought it today. Going to start it tonight. I plan on buying some proscar online after I get paid Wednesday (anybody got a good site w/ cheap prices they can suggest?)

I also bought nizoral or whatever, so by may 21 I hope to have all 3 combined.

I have noticed my hair getting worse however, but I'm hoping since I'm young, the proscar will help somehow reverse it, and the rogaine foam will make it thicker as well as the shampoo giving it the thick look. Might as well try.

I just want my 15 year old bushy hair back. I don't need long locks, JUST HAIR SO NO ONE CAN SEE MY SCALP WHEN I BEND OVERRRRR

Jspence,

While I wouldn't call Rogaine useless, I think aw33 is pointing out that Rogaine may not provide you with too much benefit given your level of hair loss. On the Rogaine package, it shows diagrams and pictures of advanced baldness claiming that Rogaine may not help. But, since Propecia and Rogaine are your two best bets to treat your hair loss non-surgically, it can't really hurt to try Rogaine.

Best wishes,

Bill

Well I've started on the rogaine foam last night.

Now I have to figure out how to get some proscar.

If I have only been balding for the last 2 to 3 years, what are my chances of seeing thicker hair? Along with rogaine foam, nizoral and proscar I plan to also add saw palmetto, biotin and other vitamins.

Hey man, Rogaine at your level of hair loss might not get you the result your looking for but it is worth a try - next time try ebay for a cheaper method of getting your Rogaine. I don't know much about nizoral but I have heard it is at best, only slightly helpful with hair loss. Saw, biotin and other vitamins for hair loss are just a waste of money, in my opinion. Get on finasteride, this is the best way the combat MPB. Get on it quick, with your aggressive MPB, the longer you wait the more ground you lose.

Well you see, the thing is, I wanted to give the foam a headstart while I was waiting on the derm appointment/fin pills....

I may be overlooking it, but I feel my bald spot is just nothing but short peach fuzz compared to the sides of hair on my head. I'm sure most of the follicles still work, but the hair just grows slow?

Good news, however.

I saved up some money and am going to the dermatologist later today. Let's hope for good news guys. My plan was to start the fin before or on my 19th bday (may 21)
