pictures uploaded..fue or Strip

Hi Guys,

Here is my story. im 29,loosing hair since 21/22. i joined this forum back in 2008 to educate myself about the transplant and to do something about my haisloss. i could not do anything at the time because of financial and other reasons so i had decided to postpone it for a couple of years.

i am now ready to do smthing about it. i have done few online consultations with the coliation docs here.based on the pictures i sent everyone recommends 3000-4000 grafts(strip) to restore the hairline to mid scalp. i have done an inperson consultation with a coliation doc in europe, who was very reluctant to treat me with strip instead he suggested 1500-2000 grafts via fue and to keep it short( my donor density according to him is around 60-70 /cm2). i have been on fin for 13 months and minox for over 2years now. im finding it very hard to decide whether to do fue and keep it buzzed or go for a large strip.

please have a look at my pictures and help me make a decision..any feedback, suggestions will be appriciated..thank you all

bishal82,

What are your ultimate goals? If you want to restore your hair with the hopes of wearing a longer hairstyle then, as you know, FUT is both cheaper and allows for greater session sizes.

If you wish to be able to maintain a buzzed look then FUE will be necessary. I'm quite certain that your existing haircut would expose a donor scar.

Thanks Okay and TTP for your reply,

my ultimate goal is to have a mature hairline and to restore mid scalp now and in the future possibly restore crown with whatever i have left. i don think ill be too worried about thinner crown as long as i have a strong frontal third that i can style. and i would definetly like to keep my hair longer than in the picture..

Now the things that im worried about are..

1.i have thinning all over my NW6..i have some thinnig above and behind ears also.

2.doc i consulted with thinks i might have a condition with the scar..looking at the previous scars on my head( not HT). as far as i know it wasnot sutured..

3.donor density..i have been keeping my hair short like on the last picture for more than 4 years now.. i have no idea how its going to hide the scar. is 60-70 graft/cm2 a good donor?

4. family history..both my elder brother are NW 4ish.. my father is in 60s he is a NW 4ish also..my only maternal uncle is full NW6/7 ish

5. if i am going for fue 2500 is the max according to the doc.

Hi Sparky, Thanks for ur input,

yes i think the Doc said 2500 in my case because of the low density. im not sure though if i will have any left after that via fue..dn remember asking that.

what would you do in my situation??

thanks again..

Can't you try fue right now and opt for strip later if it progresses and you need more hair? You can do a combination depending on what works for you.

But, if you keep hair really short, then maybe FUE is the only choice for now. Have you thought about FUE, along with beard hair fue or bht? Some surgeons can do that.

Thanks sean, yes i was thinking about that myself. fue along with beard hair gives me 3500 and that will only look good in short hair style..will not look good if i am to grow it longer..thats what i got from online consultation with bisanga..so that really means i will not have an option to go for a strip later..

Here are some shots I took yesterday of my donor scar after a #3 clip over my whole head. I'm at 8 months post op from a 4500 FUT strip surgery. I don't normally cut my hair anywhere close to this short, but I wanted to even everything out since I've haven't had a real haircut since the surgery and it was looking pretty wild.

The scar is still a bit red as well which makes it more visible at this length. But unless somebody is really looking for it, it is hard to find IMO. With a little toppik it becomes even less noticable than this. I'll post some toppik pics next.

At any rate, IMO it doesn't stand out and "scream HT" in public like alot of other posters will have you believe. I've been walking around like this for 2 days in bright sunlight and harshly lit store environments and not one person has given me a funny stare.

Here are some shots with a little toppik applied to the scar. Took about 50 seconds to apply the toppik.

I took the shots in my bathroom under the most harsh flourescent light possible. Notice that the distance is about the same that someone at the checkout counter behind you in the grocery store would be.

Does the scar "scream HT" in your opinion ?

bishal,

Look up my blog and you can see my pre-HT pictures as well as my surgery pics. I was a NW4v.

Dr. Hasson did the entire front third with 3300 grafts and a small (2.5" X 2.5") crown bald spot with 1200 grafts. The strip was quite large, 30 cm long X 1.5/2.5 cm wide in some places. My donor density averaged about 70 fu per sq. cm

I'll probably keep my back and sides at about double this length in the future, which is still fairly short for me. IMO there is not much difference looks-wise between a crew cut and this length of hair.

A little stubble looks better than bare bald skin to me anyway, so i can never understand why so many guys are so worried about retaining the ability to shave down to a 0 guard ? Look at Jason Statham for example. Would he really look any different shaved to a 0 guard as opposed to a #3 ?

ES,

To my eye, your scar doesn't jump out at me at this length. Of course, the Toppik helps hide it even more.

I'm of the opinion that so few people we will encounter in public have any clue of hair transplantation that they will not recognize or even register the hint of a scar for what it really is.

I've been fighting the urge to buzz my hair down again just to see how mine looks but I'm really wanting to see how my hair will look longer as well.

Best of luck!

When it comes to looks, and cosmetic effects plus recovery, FUE is better.. As what i understood FUT is only cheaper.

Could anyone list me the benefits of FUT over FUE???
