Nobody loves you when you'
Hi guys, It's about time I made a profile on this forum. Well...I'm 23 and starting to bald noticeably I think. I had a very thick head of hair throughout my life, up until recently. Last september 2006 about a year ago, i went through a very stressful time in my life, depression and lack of sleep alsmot every night. This was followed by weightloss, I was running a lot and minimizing my food intake (started this around january-feb 2007). By march of 2007 I had lost about 20 lbs since january and I had started to notice that my hair was thining towards the back of my head near my natural hair swirl. It was very minor and noticeable only when wet. Over the course of the next few months it seemed to have stabilized i'm not sure if it really did or whether I just thought it did. I also have a bad habit of lightly pulling my hair to check for hairloss (thought i'd mention that). Anyhow i moved and started a new job and this is when i really started noticing the thinning of my hair. Now it's clearly visible in the center of my head slightly towards the back. It's also thinner around my swirl and on the top in the front. However I don't have a widows peak. I'm not entirely sure if it's MPB or if i'm balding for some other reason. My dad is bald and went bald in his late 20's. Two of my uncle's on my mom's side have bald spots and two have full heads of hair. Either way this totally sucks, and I'm not sure where to start. Should i start on some generic form of propecia?(does it make you lose hair at first) or should i start on rogaine? how about a hair transplant? I don't have health insurance right now either so I'm not sure how to have my dht levels checked. Thanks guys for any support and advice you may have, as I could surely use it. Bill - Seemiller
NLYWY23 (I abbreviated your name), Welcome to our community! Hair loss can be caused by many things. Hereditary hair loss is the most common. Though traumatic stress (not normal day to day stress) and extreme emotional states can cause rapid or sudden hair loss, gradual and progressive hair loss is typically genetic referred to as hereditary or genetic hair loss (male/female pattern baldness). Learn more about hereditary hair loss. FDA approved medications such as Propecia and Rogaine are the best line of defense against hereditary hair loss. Hair transplantation is an option for those who are considered good candidates. To learn more about what to consider when researching hair transplantation, click here. Consulting with a dermatologist or a hair restoration specialist is advisable to determine the root cause of loss and treatment options. I hope this helps, Bill
Senior Member notgoing2gobald Posted September 29, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted September 29, 2007 23, hey man. I dont know what youve been through (stress and depression wise) but if I were you I would get some health insurance and go see a doc (an internist NOT a hair transplant doc). First off, if your battling with insomnia (or were) and not sleeping almost every night you should NOT be running. That would be really unhealthy. Ive gone through times where I cant sleep all night and just lay in bed watching tv until 7am. It fucking sucks. So, I went to the doc and got ambien. Now if I cant sleep, I pop an ambien and pass out in 30 min. If your lack of sleep is caused by depression then go see a doc and talk to him about this. They will probably not prescribe ambien but something else. Bottomline: I dont know about your hairloss situation, but if you lost 20lbs in 3 months, were barely sleeping at night, barely eating, and on top of all that RUNNING!?!? That cant be good. I would see a doc. From my understanding most people who suffer hairloss due so from genetics, but you have some serious underlying issues surrounding your circumstances and I would not be suprised if this had something to do with it. get health insuarance and see a doc.
