Guest Duke4444
I am interested in getting a hair transplant. I am new to this whole process of determining where and when to get a hair transplant etc. I was recieving information from Bosley and from what i read they are out dated and they lose touch with there customers opposed to other doctors. There in it for the money not to satisfy there customers. Does anyone know any good hair transplant doctors in Maryland with good reputation and pictures etc. I am living in Maryland and need advice on where to get this done, also the average price since I am a college student and on a strict budget. I have many other questions, if someone could please respond with their wisdom that would be great. Thank you. Duke
Senior Member Jotronic Posted September 19, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted September 19, 2006 Duke4444, First off, welcome to the forums. You're among friends. I'm happy that some good sense took hold and you decided to utilize the web for your research. Oh if only it was around for me when I was your age. Oh well, spilled milk I guess. First thing to do is to read up on what makes a hair transplant truly "good". It helps to also read up on the doctors that do this kind of work but unfortunately you won't find many. Great docs that are worthy of your consideration much less your dollars are few and far inbetween relative to the actual numbers of doctors performing this type of procedure. It really is lopsided to the point that the phrase "buyer beware" takes on a new level of importance. This site is a great starting point and there is more information for you to read here than you can imagine. Read up, think then read again. Then start asking your questions and we'll be here to help. You may also want to utilize the "find a doc" feature that will help you find doctors to consider. I have not heard of anyone in the Maryland area. Many patients do not have the fortune of living near a truly good doc so you most likely will need to take travel into consideration when considering a clinic. Some clinics have patients fly in literally from all over the world. Patients that are truly informed and have utilized the web to it's fullest with regards to research almost always wind up travelling because they realize that what I said above is true. Read, read, read, and when you're done read some more and ask questions as you get them. Don't be afraid of asking stupid questions either. We've all been there before and have asked them ourselves. Senior Member Eman Posted September 19, 2006 Senior Member Share Posted September 19, 2006 Welcome.... Like joe said "read, read, read" and then do more research and really evaluate everything. (just so you know Jotronic is a great source of information/assistance for anyone with any question). So, please ask and many here will answer as open and honestly as possible. I have been researching since April and have learned a ton from people on this website. I did the same thing as you and looked at Bosely. A piece of advice from all my research, DO NOT GO THERE. And a quick other piece of advice, do not let where you live dictate where you decide to go. Granted I am a bit older (32) than you and the first thing people are going to tell you (including me) is wait and do your research. I know it is hard to begin losing your hair in college, most of us were in your same shoes, but there are many factors that you need to contemplate before going under the knife at such a young age. This is major surgery and the results WILL affect you the rest of your life. I am still thinking about it now. I continue to read and research and have held off at this point. Losing your hair sucks, but making the wrong decision about where to get a hair transplant will suck even more. So, take your time, read the forum, look at pictures, ask questions, have some phone consults after sending pictures in to some of the doctors....and then ask more questions. Welcome again and enjoy the learning. My initial HT thread: done and done!! Check it out...
