researching hairloss options

Recommended Posts

hello all, i have begun researching my hairloss options and am hoping for some advice. i am 37 and i have been slowly losing my hair since about age 21 or 22. i am probably about a NW4 at this point. i recently had a consult with Dr. Griffin in the Atlanta area for a transplant. he prices his transplants by the fol unit and recommended a transplant with 1300 units which he said would be about 2600 hairs. he also recommended using Propecia along with Biotin and Folic Acid. i am in the beginning of my research and plan on visiting other doctors in the area especially Dr. Cooley since i have read so many great things about him on this site. i plan on taking my time about 6 months to a year before i make a decision and may shave my head first for a couple of months to see how i like the look.

my question is concerning the Propecia, i am afraid of the side effects, both the sexual and long term, since once you start on it, it is a life time commitment.

1. is it worthwhile to get a transplant without using Propecia or Rogaine or would i just be wasting money fighting a never ending battle

2. how have your experiences been with Propecia, any side effects, do they go away if stopped

3. has anyone tried Biotin and Folic Acid to help improve overall hair health

thanks for the great site, i have spent the last few weeks trying to get educated and this site is awesome
