Leading clinic in Chicago - Dr. Ray Konior

Recommended Posts

When I visit a truly excellent A+ hair transplant clinic I leave inspired and confident in knowing that patients who find their way from our website to this community will achieve outstanding results. The patient may not fully appreciate how exceptional this clinic's work really is. But the physician and staff know it and for them their pride in doing their very best for the patient is its own reward.

This was true in spades for Dr. Konior and his staff. I have visited the Chicago metro area on more than one occasion to identify quality hair transplant services and in my opinion Dr. Konior and his clinic are way ahead of the next best option in the Chicago area. In fact, their clinic and procedure rank among a handful of world class hair transplant clinics in North America.

From the moment a hair loss sufferer contacts their office the long term interest of the patient is put front and center. Tom Ruiz, who is the patient educator for the clinic, often advises those who contact their office to consider using Propecia for several months before even considering a hair transplant. Both Tom and Dr. Konior emphasize education and patient empowerment when they meet with potential patients. And why not ??“ because the more patients learn about hair transplant surgery the better they look.

With an outstanding reputation among his colleagues and patients, Dr. Konior is often booked months in advance. Yet even with such high demand for his services he rarely does more than one hair transplant patient a day because he believes that a patient deserves he and his staff's full attention from beginning to end. He is known for virtually never leaving the surgical room from the start of surgery to the very end. Dr. Konior even personally places a large portion of his patient's grafts. Such "hands on" attention is very rare these days.

As Dr. Konior put it, he and his staff work to produce "one Ferrari rather than three or four Fords in a day".

His staff is exceptionally experienced, loyal and committed to quality. His lead technician has worked with him for over 13 years and his other technicians are also long time employees. It was clear from speaking with his staff that they respect Dr. Konior and take great pride and ownership in their work.

Despite his relaxed nature, great patient rapport and down to earth composure Dr. Konior is a true perfectionist. This is disease that afflicts almost all of the very best hair transplant surgeons I've met. He constantly strives to make he and his staff's procedure and process the best it can be and in my opinion they have succeeded.

From the start of the surgical procedure I witnessed I was struck by the extreme care and time Dr. Konior took in removing the donor tissue. Every care possible was taken to avoid transecting (severing) any hair follicles in the donor area to assure that every bit of the patient's precious limited donor follicles were preserved. The carefully harvested donor tissue was then meticulously trimmed by his technicians under microscopes into very refined follicular unit grafts.

These follicular unit grafts are then placed into tiny minimally invasive incisions. Dr. Konior makes these incisions so that the transplanted hair will grow at the proper angles and directions to assure a natural appearance.

The patient shown in the below photos was in his late forties and given his ample donor hair and limited baldness was an excellent candidate for a dense packed session of grafts to restore a full hairline with one session.

This patient did his research online and found his way to Dr. Konior based on his merits rather than "marketing hype". Great to see the promise of the Internet working to help a hair loss sufferer find a real gem in the rough clinic.

I recently had a session with Dr. Konior and came away very much impressed with the entire experience.

Dr. Konior is a very talented physician, and his reputation is spotless, from those patients I've heard from, but also among his fellow physicians, as they have voted him many "fellow" awards as his office wall indicated. Also, at least on one ocassion, was voted Chicago's top doctor.

A graduate of Northwestern Univ. and Loyola Medical School with a specialty in Head and Neck surgery, Dr. Konior's attention has always been focused on the head and neck and his interest in hair transplantation has been evident from the very start of his medical career it would appear.

While my session was only a small one due to limited donor area, his interest in repairing previous work was very much evident from our first meeting, and something I was very much impressed with was Dr. Konior's personal attention to every detail during my session. He will not leave your side during your surgery, no matter how long it takes. Another poster I read commented he was there for 12 hours during his surgery.

Wylie,

I agree that Dr. Konior does first-rate work.

Your post however, sounds a bit more like an advertisement than a personal experience. I encourage you to share the details of your experience and photos with us by creating a hair loss weblog.

Best wishes,

Bill

Good news Bill!

The doctor took lots of before and after pictures. I'm not promoting this doctor as my results are not in yet, I'm only relaying my personal experience and confidence in his ability.

More to come as results appear! However, due to limited donor areas they wont be as dramatic as much of what you see (density wise), but the subtle difference from an unnatural looking hairline to a natural one is what I'm hoping for.

I'll keep you posted!

I want to thank Dr. Konior for performing a courtesy suture removal on one of my patients. I hope to get a chance to visit Dr. Konior on one of my next visits to Chicago.

Hey there,

Wow, how things have changed since 2007!

Thanks for your interest, and I can say that both Dr. Umar and Dr. Konior are two of the top docs. in the WORLD, in their respective professions, one being a strip surgeon, and one doing FUE.

My first repair was a relatively small hairline softening with Dr. Konior. I've always been impressed with his results, and I'm also impressed by the doctor himself, his attention to detail, his thoroughness, and his ethical practice. He not only is a skilled and talented doctor but he is someone you can place your trust in. The problem was, by the time I got to Dr. Konior, I was a basket case. I had been "stripped out" for close to 10 years, and there simply was little he could do for me. I visited three coalition doctors, and all of them saw how badly disfigured I was and I knew there was little any could do for me. At least Dr. Konior made my hairline something other than a straight line of small "mini grafts", placed there by one of the industry's most notorious actors, who is now dead.

It was a chat with Dr. Konior's assistant that revealed to me the new practice of body hair FUE, and it was after this session with Dr. Konior that I went home and I started researching this for the first time. I'd never even heard of using beard hair for repair before. And that is when Dr. Umar first appeared on my radar screen. Now my research really ramped up and for the first time in a decade I had HOPE that a normal appearance could be achieved.

My first surgery with Dr. Umar was a total hairline rebuild. With FUE, scalp grafts are available that simply are not there from a strip surgery. He supplemented these scalp grafts with hair from the nape region, and the results of my new hairline simply blew me away. Now I knew that the formerly impossible was possible, and that there was a chance I could look normal again. Since that initial surgery I have had three other surgeries, and my last one was almost exactly 9 months ago. I can't tell you how pleased I am with the results of around 5000 beard grafts breaking up embarrassingly obvious plugs across my head and now making them practically invisible.

Believe me, I lived without hope of repair for almost 10 years. I could tell from all three coalition doctors eyes, when they looked at my hair prior to visiting Dr. Umar, that there was nothing they could do. They didn't even have to tell me a thing. They were helpful, sympathetic, and Dr. Konior did make a difference, but the damage was so severe it was like throwing a bucket of water on a house engulfed in flames. My hair was a trainwreck, and we all knew this.

So here I am, in 2013, and I am far from that person you quoted in 2007, who was just happy to have done SOMETHING, anything, to address his problem. Before Dr. Konior I deliberately avoided forums like this one, only being depressed at seeing pics. of those who bemoaned their baldness. I would have traded places with any of them.

I'm almost done now with my repairs. I desire one more relatively small session to add a little hair to the roughly 6500 grafts I've gotten over 4 surgeries with Dr. Umar. You have no idea what it is like to be able to go without a ball cap in public, which I just started feeling comfortable enough to do this year. I was like that for 20 YEARS!

In short, Dr. Umar is one of the best, if not the best, FUE doctors in the entire world. as a repair specialist, he is in a league of his own, there is no one else even close. I also have viewed Dr. Konior's results over the years and he is easily top 5 strip surgeons world wide, and I have no problem whatsoever with saying his results rank in the top 3, right alongside Dr. Wong, Dr. Shapiro, and any other coalition doctor you can name. Trying to name the "best" among coaltion recommended strip surgeons really boils down to a razor thin margin with many of these guys. It is only with Dr. Umar and FUE that he is easily distanced from the rest of the field.

Hope this answers your questions. ;)

Edit to add: Hope I did not hijack this thread with my update, but much has changed in 6 years. :)

Thank you for sharing your story. Glad to hear you have finally reached a comfortable place with your hair.

I think it would be greatly helpful for many prospective patients and people who have lost hope if you consider posting a couple photos of your journey. You can post frm the forehead up if you are concerned with privacy.

Thank you again
