Photos from May visit to the Farjo clinic in Manchester, England

Recommended Posts

After watching Dr. Bessam Farjo and his wife Dr. Nilofer Farjo and their staff in action over two days and two impressive ultra refined surgeries during May of 2007, I was very pleased to see that they have successfully incorporated all of the most important recent advances in hair restoration into their clinic and procedure.

All of their grafts are carefully trimmed under microscopes, with Dr. Nilofer Farjo closely supervising the medical technicians, while cutting and placing grafts herself. Nilofer is very hands on and does the critical slivering (sectioning of the donor strip into thin "slivers" that are then divided by the technicians into individual follicular unit grafts). She also does most of the primary training and supervising of the medical technicians using the video screen.

Both Bessam and Nilofer also create all the carefully oriented and minimally invasive graft incisions using custom cut blades that are as small as 0.7mm. Their use of small incisions enables their patients to achieve greater density in a single session, while experiencing quicker healing.

They take a team approach to the surgery with all hands on deck and working harmoniously together. Given the size and skill of the team the clinic can perform large sessions in excess of 3,000 grafts when appropriate for the patient. They typically limit themselves to one patient a day to achieve an optimal level of care.

Their donor strip removal and trichophytic closure are also very state of the art with care taken to minimize any follicle transaction or scarring in the donor area. Drs. Bessam and Nilofer Farjo were involved in the early studies/evaluations of the trichophytic closure technique.

To minimize any potential scarring/stretching in the donor area they prefer to remove long but narrow donor strips.

I was particularly impressed by the collaboration of the husband and wife team of Dr. Bessam and Nilofer Farjo. For the patient of the day, it's like getting two very experienced hair transplant surgeons rather than one. There teaching credits at hair restoration meetings and workshop worldwide are very impressive as are their credentials.

In short, in my opinion, the quality of care and service being provided by the Farjo clinic is on pare with leading clinics in North America.

The photos presented below show highlights from my observation of two patients over two days. I also had an opportunity to see some of their impressive patient results in person.

The first patient had hair transplantation performed on his hairline and midscalp regions. His donor strip measured approximately 1.2 cm wide by 30 cm long. His donor density was low and so his strip yielded 2,196 follicular unit grafts consisting of 315 one hair grafts, 1,701 twos and 180 three/four hair grafts.

The second patient on my second day observing had hair transplantation in his crown area only. His donor strip was approximately 1.1 cm wide and 30 cm long. It yielded 2,488 grafts consisting of 379 single hair grafts, 1,764 two hair grafts and 345 three and four hair grafts.

I believe Pat is on his travels again but i am copying from his above report about visiting us at Farjo. "I also had an opportunity to see some of their impressive patient results in person."

Hope that helps.

Chucky,

Pat is traveling and should be back in a few days.

I think the pictures in this thread are impressive and truly show not only that the Farjo clinic uses Ultra Refined Follicular Unit Grafting, but also the artistic talent - especially in the immediately post op picture of the crown.

Mick,

I look forward to seeing more of your involvement with us.

Bill

Tulip,

Since you've posted on this topic, in my opinion, you're looking at them :-). In my opinion, the Farjo clinic are doing ultra refined hair transplants with excellent results. I know they've been very busy due to how popular they've become. However, in my opinion, it's better to wait to get the job done right than potentially choosing a clinic using outdated techniques.

In addition to Drs Bessam and Nilofer Farjo, we recommend dozens of leading hair transplant doctors worldwide. To see a list of who we recommend, click here. To see our demanding standards for recommendation, click here.

Best wishes,

Hi,

I am in england and researching ahead of surgery I am thinking about.

I notice this visit was in 2007 and was wondering if there were any more recent experiences you were aware of?

And if this is still the only uk clinic that is worth considering? I can't see any others you recommend.

It's a steep learning curve.

Thanks

Jess

I would talk to Spex hair vet and consultant in the UK, sure he will be able to help you. Look at his posts.

jessh41,

Yes, the Farjo's are the only clinic we currently recommend in the UK. However, we do recommend a number of other clinics in Europe and worldwide. For a complete listing click here.

You can view loads of Dr. Farjo's results and patient experiences by using the forum's search feature. Or contact their rep, Mick.

Best of luck!

The Farjo's are excellent and you should include them in your research by consulting with them. IMO, their current work is superior compared to 2007 as most top clinic improve their techniques with time. I visited their facilty 2 months ago and I can say you're not going to get superior work in the states.

Good luck in your research.

Bucksred,

I don't know about the Farjo's or how anyone else feels but personally, I think it's really rude for you to "plug" Spex on a Farjo Visit thread.

I appreciate i have helped you in the past Bucks and you want to pay it forward by posting kudos toward me and i really appreciate that but not on another docs topic - Not cricket.

Dr Farjo is a great UK option for the record and the only one in my opinion so defo worth a consult to get a good feel for him and his opinion.

Best

Spex

Sorry you feel like that Janna, I respect your comments and what I've seen Fajo are fantastic, I thought the gentleman was asking for someone else to talk to in the UK that's all. I'm not trying to plug anyone, was genuinely trying to help. Happy for the moderator to remove.

Guys,

I'm just getting wind of this post and while I admit that I don't know if there's more going on here than meets the eye, I don't BucksRed did any harm in indirectly answering jessh41's question regarding alternatives to the Farjo Clinic. That said, I don't want to deviate from the topic featuring Pat's visit to the Farjos and would ask that members wanting to ask questions about other clinics in the UK do so by creating their own topic.

In my opinon, the Farjo Clinic is first rate and to date, both Drs Bessam and Nilofer Farjo are the only physicians we recommend in the UK. In my opinion, both are well respected in their field and are performing high quality ultra refined follicular unit hair transplantation on par with leading clinics in North America.

Best wishes,

Bill

About as rude as plugging your clinic's approach, neither conservative nor aggressive, on our visit thread? Just sayin.

Yeah, the Farjos. They should be consulted by anyone in the UK considering a procedure. Give Mick a ring to make it happen.

Except I was not only asked but heavily encouraged at the time by the “visitor” himself to reply on your visit thread. I could be mistaken and perhaps Pat asked Bucksred to contribute to this thread too.

Although this thread has turned interesting, to help get it back on track, is there any way we could see updated info on this patient?

Not sure how local he is, but it would be great to see this HT 5 years out. Maybe Mick could update us?

Spanker,

No interesting stuff here unfortunately. One of the patients is featured on our website and the other one lives abroad.

It would be great if Pat came over again though as we had a couple of good nights out.
