Receeding at the temples

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi, Im almost 18 years old and I have been faced with the burden of dealing with a receeding hairline at an early age. For the past two to three years I have noticed it. When I lookin the mirror at night and push my hair back to see my hairline, I notice that my hairline at my temples is about a half to a full inch further back than the rest of my hairline. Every moring when I wake up I am forced to comb my hair certain ways so that it is less noticeable for about 10 minutes and everytime anyone gets close to my hair I shy away, fearing that they will touch it and move it out of place so that they could see that it is receeding. I also get a short haircut every week so that it is less noticeable. I get it cut up to a half inch. I sometime get very depressed about my hair and my self image. I have been searching all over the internet searching for a "miracle cure" to put me out of my misery, But i have unfortunately came up with nothing. I also went to a hair transplant specialist but they said that I am too young becasue they dont know if it will continue to receed and that if they did any surgury it might look bad as I get older. I wish that I could find something that can help me so that I can live a more carefree lifestyle but I am more concerned with keeping what I have and not to further receed. If anyone can give me any advice or has gone through a situation like mine, I would love to hear from you. Thanks to anyone who can help !!!

Hi Mark. I know exactly how you feel, I'm 22, not as young as you but I've been losing hair for about 3 years. It's the hardest thing to lose hair at such a young age because no one should be worrying about their hair at such a at this point in their life. Its so uncommon.. and because no one can relate to you and know what your going through, it becomes depressing to think about it. I get very paranoid also, I tend to follow the eyes of my friends and see if they're looking at my face or my hair. What are you using right now for your hair? Post your regimine so people can give you better advice. Rogaine works best for the temple region but I have to warn you, once you start it, you have to use it daily for the rest of your life. I got over confident when my hair started to fill back in my temples, so I stopped using it. Big mistake, I lost all the hair that I gained and my temples receeded even further. If you just don't want your temples to recede even further, just stick with proscar/propecia for now.

Regimen: 5% Minoxidil twice a day (morning and night) on front hairline, Proscar (broken into 5 pieces) one piece every night. MSM 1000 Mg, Zinc 30 Mg, Vitamin E, Multi-Vitamin.

Baby Shampoo for showering.

Right now I am using volumizing shampoos but that is about it. I saw some products in the CVS pharmacy that are pills used for hair regrowth. Do you think i should give it a try ? I read somewhere that Flax seed oil pills are helpfull so im giving it a try. I just started them a few days ago. How do you apply the Rogaine ? Is it messy or an inconvience, and is it noticable ? After you stoped the Rogaine and your hair receeded further, did it eventually grow back ?

Mark08,

I would be hesitant to recommend Rogaine right now since 1) there is no guarantee that it will do much for your hair line and 2) it must be applied diligently twice a day to see and keep benefit. It can be messy and a real pain. Like Anonymous said, you have to stay on it indefinitely.

That being said, perhaps you should speak to a dermatologist and ensure that you have male-pattern baldness instead of going through a bunch of "home cures" like Flax Seed Oil and "Hair Vitamins" (I am 99% positive niether will do much of anything for you.) It is possible that your hair line may just receding a bit into a maturer level. This is normal.

I'm not trying to downplay your plight, I started receding at 17 too. I'm just saying that you should get it diagnosed and perhaps inquire about Finasteride (Propecia) before wasting money on over-the-counter stuff that won't address the root of the problem.

I would suggest using 101D. I am 18 years old and have been suffering from a receeding hairline since I was 15. This is a chinese lotion, I suggest you go to google, type in 101D international and 101D lotion and many other lotions are explained. It is best for you to purchase it from ebay since it is very cheap compared to other products available.

I have been using 101D, 101A and 101 shampoo for about 3 weeks and I have already noticed small hairs growing along my hairline. Unlike rogain, this treatment does not require life time usage, about 8 months maximum. If you want any extra information check out the website.

Mark08,

First of all, I think most of us here know how you feel. When Anonymous said that it's so uncommon, that's how it feels but in reality, it is very common. I've been in your shoes too bro.

I've never heard of the Chinese solution, so I can't comment on it either way. I do know that there has been 'snake oil' products popping up again and again. The only 2 things that most MD's will recommend is Propecia (finsteride) and Rogaine. I wouldn't be hesistant to use Rogaine as was mentioned earlier. If you don't use it, you will surely lose the hair. You might be able to keep it, who knows?

Hang in there, we got your back!
