Advice for Hair Loss Sufferers Considering Hair Transplant Surgery

My Story

  1. Hi, I would like to share my experience and current results from a FUE Surgery. I had my surgery last year August 2018. Also, this is my second surgery after a failed procedure from a 2000 grafts FUE surgery which I had in June 2016. The picture below before my last year procedure shows the failure from my first surgery. After my first unsuccessful surgery I decided to try a second procedure with hope of a better results. I came across Darlings Buds clinic from this forum and few other forums along with his clearly 'misleading Youtube' channel. After contacting and consultation through emails only he suggested for a FUE procedure 2200 grafts. He convinced me that the first procedure was a failure and he can repair it with a single procedure and with 2200 grafts (we end up having 2376 because he claim he managed to extract more during surgery). I made a trip last year to India in August 2018 for the procedure and after 10 months of my procedure I came into conclusion that it is a failed procedure based on the results below. From the month of 7 I started asking Dr Bhatti, why I don't see any results even after following all the instruction he gave me i.e, medication which is Finestride, Biotin 10,000 mcg, and Minoxidil, he's feedback was he don't know himself.Despite the side effect of finestride, I'm still on that medication. After numerous emails, he admitted that my hair will not grow fully and his feedback was each human body works differently. At last, he replied that he can do a repair with complementary repair. Here now comes my question which he refuse and cannot answer. 1. What was the reason my unsuccessful surgery? 2. What are the possibility of the repair surgery would work? He's reply was he can only hope for the best 3. What if the repair failed as well? - No answer, only replied with 'I won't proceed with another repair then' - This is of course when there is no more graft available as he claim I only have balance 800 grafts 4. When I told him that I would need to approach another surgeons view and I've been asked for my outcome pictures from few bloggers, he's feedback was he would need to defend himself. Strange that he thinks I'm making a false acquisition here when he knows that the surgery failed and he can't convince me for a repair. Also to note that all this is through an email and personally I feel there is no sense of responsibility from him to call and speak to me. Below is the pictures and I hope to get your expert feedback on this. Would it be right for me to go back to the same surgeon who cannot give me a proper explanation and explain to me what went wrong? Only by saying we can just hope for the best. 2. Background: I am 31 years old North Indian working in Pune, have been losing hair for the past 5 years. I have tried using both Minoxidil and Finpecia for about a year and then stopped about 6 months back, as I just couldn't see myself doing it any further for the rest of my life. I'm not sure if it did stop my hair loss or helped regrow some of them, as there was nothing noticeable to my eye. Researching: I’m glad I found this forum, the forum provided me a vast data of other patient's doctor reviews and their HT journeys. After extensive reading for about 2 years, I decided to get a HT done, so it finally came down between Dr Bhatti and Dr Lorenzo, cost wasn’t an important factor, I believe in quality but Chandigarh City, being my home town and its much easier to meet Dr Bhatti and rest post HT, I opted for Dr Bhatti. Special thanks to Shera for his work on this forum. Email communication: I dropped an email to Dr. Bhatti around a month ago after getting his details from his website. He responded asking for some pics of my head. After seeing them, he estimated that I’d need around 1500 grafts for the front, 1000 grafts to cover my crown for a natural look as per my age. My hair other than the balding spot is reasonably thick, I have attached the before pictures to give a fair idea. I bombarded him with lot of questions and he responded to every single one of them and then finally fixed my HT for 16th April after an advance payment to block the date. Dr. Bhatti sent me a pre-OP instruction manual for me to go through. Do note, I did not opt for any hotel/guest house, as I have my own house in Chandigarh. Consultation: I landed at Chandigarh few days before my HT, as I had 14th April (Saturday) as my consultation date to discuss in person with Dr Bhatti at his newly built 5 River Hospital, Mohali to agree on hairline and get other blood tests done as part of pre-op. I gave my blood sample at Amulya Labs, located on the ground floor of 5 Rivers Hospital itself. Dr Amulyajit - she is Dr Bhatti’s wife, Dr Sharin (I think I might have misspelt her name) and Alex at the reception were really kind and caring and walked me through all the tests that I needed. They mentioned the reports will be sent over by email the same day (but for some reason I did not receive it) After Dr Bhatti examined me in person at 10:45am, I was told I would need 1000 grafts for the front and 1200 grafts for my crown. He drew me a hairline which was much lower than I was expecting, but he said it would look better on my face. I consulted with my parents who were with me, we agreed on the hairline but he still asked me to think it over the weekend before HT day. I was given few tablets that I needed to take a night before the HT (they were anti Anxiety, anti acid and another one which I don’t remember what it was for) and was asked to have only milk or juice and be ready at 7.30 AM for the pickup from my home. HT - Day 1: I was picked up by clinic driver Mr. Chanchal (he drove well and was fun to talk with as well) at 7:30am today. On reaching the clinic, I was made to change into OT clothes and deposit my valuable items like phone, cards etc. I had to sign few papers and pay approx. 80% before the operation (they do accept cards). A guy (didn’t get his name) tested me by inserting sample dose of antibiotic via needle in my hand to check if Im not allergic. I then reviewed the new hairline with Dr Bhatti for the final time before he trimmed my hair (a moment of shock to see myself bald for the first time, but to be honest didn’t look to bad ). On asking Dr Bhatti that I did not receive the lab report, he did mention the lab reports were all okay and we are good to proceed. Procedure started around 9am after injecting anaesthesia to my donor area, Dr Bhatti proceeded to harvest my grafts from the donor area. The harvesting machine drilled into my semi-numb scalp and the doctor extracted the grafts – which was not completely painless unfortunately (In my case the anaesthesia did not work in some part of my scalp even after increasing the dosage, this has happened with me before in my only other operation (tonsillitis)- that’s just my sour relation with anaesthesia smh). During harvesting, Dr Bhatti tried to strike a conversation to help me divert my mine, but the drill was still sort of painful but I was strong enough to bear it. After Harvesting was completed around 11’ish, my donor area was bandaged, we took a break for breakfast. Ate sandwich with juice (yummy) along with a toilet break. After breakfast, Dr Bhatti resumed in punching holes in my upper forehead (not sure about the technical term for it) for my hairline, which took quite a while before Plantation of the grafts was done by his staff, a total of 4 nurses (from what I could make out) – Sonam, Ankush, Manpreet and the other did not have a visible name tally. But the nurse staff was really kind and caring and kept on checking with me in between If Im okay, we had punjabi radio station in the background. I was not chatty due to the pain. After the plantation for my hairline was completed, we took lunch break around 2:15pm. I was given a Pizza and coke. FYI, Pizza preference was noted before the surgery started. Post lunch around 2:45pm, Dr Bhatti came back, this time for punching holes in my crown area (which btw did hurt) and then once he was done with it, the nursing staff took over for planting the grafts on my crown. Arushi came to check on me between the procedure, stating that it shouldn’t take much longer and Im almost at the end of it. The procedure finally finished around 4:30pm After the surgery was completed, Sonam took me in-front of a mirror and a chair, where Dr Bhatti came and explained me on how to use the saline lotion, antiseptic spray before wearing the bandana etc. He then changed my dressing for the donor area. Was again handed couple of tablets including pain killer for the first day and was asked to visit the clinic the next day at 9:30am for changing my dressing. Dr Bhatti would then explain me on how to take care of myself thereafter. Before leaving Shalini then asked one of the guy to make me some tea, which I had. after which I changed into my normal clothes. Was handed over my personal belongings. I forgot to take note of the number of singles, doubles and triples, will remember to do that tomorrow. I now have to manage day one which is critical, so far so good just got a bit of swelling on my forehead and it hurts if I touch it. Will keep this post updated. Wish me luck guys
  3. Hi All, I have hit the 9 month mark, attached my photos in the link below. (photos are taken in the garden area at around 4 pm) To be honest its still not much of the improvement. hair are looking thin with gaps. Please have a look and give me your feedback about what do you feel. 4. 2942 grafts on December 14, 2015 with Dr. Tejinder Bhatti first FUE. Only front, top and sides are covered. Crown will be in next visit. 613 singles 1376 doubles 953 triples Hi everyone, I have been suffering from hair loss for almost 6-7 years, but the condition aggravated in the last 2 years. Have researched lot through this forum for knowledge and information about hair transplant before taking the plunge, I selected Dr. Bhatti for his visible results with less grafts. I belong to India and Dr. Bhatti's clinic is only a 1 hour car drive, so it was easy for me to select him. I drove down 2 weeks before the procedure for pre-op counselling with Dr. Bhatti (Discussed few important things and we decided to leave crown area this time. As I wanted to make front looks better first and don’t want to waste too many grafts in single attempt). Procedure Day:- 1. Reached clinic at sharp 7:00 AM. Quick blood sample and again Dr. Bhatti draw a final hairline, I agreed to his judgement as we already discussed about it before. 2. Pre HT pictures clicked by Dr. Bhatti for future reference. 3. Haircut and head washing before surgery. Finally again hairline drawn and discussed. 4. Harvesting procedure started with anesthesia which feels little bit but tolerable. It took 3 hours to harvesting as my skin was little touch. 5. After small break Dr. Bhatti started silting and it took approx. 1 hour with no pain at all. 6. Moved to second room for plantation, which took 3.5 hours with no pain at all again and I enjoyed Indian songs on TV during the process. 7. Throughout the process I was told many times, I have very healthy grafts with most of them having 2/3 hairs. Summary At the end, I'm glad that I selected a best clinic. Dr. Bhatti seemed very nice and proficient in his work - he is a busy man though doing 2 cases a day. I specially want to mention, his staff is very well behaving and very helpful. I had a mostly positive experience with Darling buds - am hopeful and looking forward to my result now. I've got high hopes for my hair growth. Fingers crossed!! Posting some of my Pre and Post-surgery pics here also will keep posting. Thanks for reading. For anyone wanting to know more about the clinic/ surgery, please feel free to ask questions here or PM me.
  5. Hi All, I began researching about hair transplants as a permanent way to deal with hair loss since 2009. But after reading how a hair transplant procedure actually worked, i wasn't sure if i wanted to go ahead with one. This was because most of the transplants i read about were FUT strip surgery, which creates a linear line at the back of the head. So i gave up that idea until a couple of years later until my hair loss became more and more evident. I grew frustrated to a point where i restarted my research from 2009 into hair transplants, I was under the opin ion that a lot had changed in 5 years, with regards to how the procedure was done. This was when i heard about FUE transplants. Basically FUE does not leave a linear scar, instead it leaves many tiny individual scars. These scars are undetectable after the surrounding hair around the donor area has grown back. The next step was finding a good surgeon, someone who had results to show and actual reviews. This was when i initiated an exhaustive search online about FUE surgeons in India and Dr Tejinder Bhatti popped up. I started reading reviews about how amazing his results were and what a gentle man he was. The more i read, the more i was convinced not just about his ethics and integrity but also about the techniques he employed, his dedicated staff of techs and nurses and the results he was capable of achieving. I finally decided to take the plunge and contacted Dr Bhatti around mid September 2014. I sent him my photos of the crown, temples and sides. We exchanged mails about how many grafts, duration of the procedure, hotel stay in Chandigarh etc. Since i already became an expert on FUE myself (lol). I already knew most of the answers to my questions. Dr. Bhatti estimated around 1500 grafts for the front and around 1000 grafts for the crown. He booked a date early in Jan 2015 for the procedure after i wired an initial advance to block the date for me. Fast forward to Jan 2015, I was supposed to arrive on the morning of Jan-8, but because of the fog, my flight got cancelled. Here is a word of advice to anyone travelling in December or January, It is better to avoid booking any domestic flights to chandigarh as the possibility of it being cancelled is very high, I 'd recommend anyone planning to travel to chandigarh to call Dr. Bhatti's office and arrange a cab from Delhi, the ride might take a little longer (around 4.5 to 5 hours), but it's better than sitting 7 hours in the airport witnessing delays and cancellations. Anyways, after a long a tiring train journey, i reached Chandigarh where Sachin (the driver) was waiting for me. He dropped me at the ABS hotel (booked by Dr Bhatti's clinic). The hotel was awesome, rooms were very neat and clean, the ambiance was great, it was equipped with all amenities such as cable tv, heating, a/c, mini bar, room service, free WiFi and even a safe. Since i was a client of Dr. Bhatti, i got it booked for an amazing price of 1700 rs a night. The price is a bargain compared to other hotels in Chandigarh city and it is within 2 minutes walking distance to his clinic. There is also an in house restaurant called "Hot Millions" which serves great food (Damn, i still crave the chilli chicken and butter naan, lol). The next morning, the clinic's office boy came and picked me up at 07.50AM. There i met Ms Shalini (one of the doctor's tech's) She was my contact who handled all my travel queries etc. At around 08.30AM, the i saw the doctor and since we were running behind schedule, we finished the consultation in 30 minutes, There was not much to consult, i knew what i wanted realistically and the doctor drew a hair line which was surprisingly what i wanted although i thought he may have lowered the hairline a little bit, but then again i read many reviews about how most of the members here on this forum advised about heeding the doctor's recommendation. So i trusted the doc's hairline and he assured me that no one would know that i got a transplant. He estimated around 2200 grafts in the frontal portion near the temples all through out the front densely packed. The doc also told me that leaving the crown untouched was the best option for now as it just started thinning only, coincidentally that was what another member on this forum "jayudkht" advised. i was content with the doc's recommendation the nurses prepped me for surgery. After the initial cleaning of the head with soap, i was taken into the OT, to be honest i was kinda nervous when i saw the sharp instruments, but the doctor cracked a few jokes and made me totally at ease. I was given injections to numb the donor area, it stung a little but soon after i couldn't feel a thing. Shortly afterwards the harvesting started, i don't remember much of the harvesting coz i fell asleep (not because of anesthesia) but due to the jet lag .lol My graft count is as follows, Singles : 712 Doubles : 817 Triples : 659 Total : 2188 After the harvesting was over, the slits were made near my temples and frontal portions. No pain whatsoever. Soon after i had a tasty lunch (pre-ordered from hot milions by the clinic) and after an hour of rest, the techs started the implantation process in another room This was also very painless as the local anesthesia was still in effect. The tech's were really friendly, kept me company all through out the procedure, one of them even asked me if i wanted to listen to music. FYI there is a TV and DVD player, so we can bring our own Cd's and DVD's and watch shows or movies. At around 02.30. the graft placement was done and they gave me tea and biscuits. Shortly afterwards, the doctor advised me to sleep upright so as to not disturb the grafts. I left shortly back to the hotel. Next day i was back at 09.00AM. the doc's assistants explained how to shampoo the hair and to how to take care of the grafts for the next two weeks. There is also an exhaustive book detailing all instructions pertaining to medicines, shampooing, anti septics, FAQ's, what to do, what not to do, 24 hour helpline. The instructions are pretty simple but one should be careful when shampooing the grafts. The clinic also gave me an option to purchase 6 months of medication including Finasteride, Rogaine and Biotin supplements which i happily purchased. I settled my final bills (paid cash in US$).There were no hidden charges, even the exchange rate was spot on. They even hired a cab for me to travel back to Delhi Int'l airport and that if i encountered any problems, just call them. I must admit, Dr. Bhatti staff are very professional, polite and simply awesome. In the end, this is one of those journeys that i will never forget thanks to the awesome Dr. Bhatti and his awesome staff. I've attached a few pics post op, i will add more pics every 12th of the coming months. Hope everything goes well. Looking forward to opinions, comments !!
  6. Hello everyone, Ive been trawling this forum for many many hours, long nights and months, gleaning information, dissecting hair transplant stories and educating myself. Red eyes and tired mornings on the verges of an obsessive disorder.lol. Armed with all this information I finally did it. I had an FUE procedure with Dr. Tejinder Bhatti from Darling Buds, Chandigarh, India on the 4th and 5th of this month. I hope to keep forum members informed of my progress over the coming year as ‘my bit’ for all the info and help its members have provided. I had a total of 3,133 grafts comprising of 2, 647 from the back and sides of my head and the remainder from my beard area. I got back home late last night and the jet lag is making me see double  so I will post some pre procedure pics now and add more pics with a detailed account over the forthcoming days.
  7. My hair-transplant experience with Dr Bhatti Consultation I started losing hair at the age of 25/26 and it got really worse by the time I was 35. Needless to mention that I started losing a little bit of confidence especially when someone could easily pass me for 40 yrs old….It was terrible…. After sitting on the edge and reviewing many hair transplant surgeon reviews, I finally gathered the courage and decided to take a consultation appointment with Dr Bhatti. Why I chose him: I wanted one of the best FUE surgeon in India and be able to afford it too… Boy...calling him must have been one of the best decisions of my life….. He asked me to send him good close-up pictures of my donor and recipient area (clue: Pls use a nice HD camera for good close-up pics). I sent him 6-8 pics and got a response back in 1-2 days. A few questions were asked about my hair loss history, medical background and I was told that I would need roughly 3000 grafts in the front and about 1000 in the back. After carefully reviewing the cost and reviews on HRN, I took the appointment for 7th September,2013. Arriving to the Location I live in Houston, TX. Booked a flight from here and reached Delhi 6th morning. A friend of mine picked me up at the airport and we drove to Chandigarh. Other options which can also be considered are rail transport. I also believe you can arrange pick up with Dr Bhatti’s help from the airport at a very nominal cost. We checked into Marriott which is a 5 star facility within 5 miles from Dr Bhatti’s new clinic. Lovely place, btw… My anxiety was driving me nuts by now….Although I didn’t have a consultation appointment for 6th afternoon, Dr Bhatti was nice enough to see me for another consultation. We pretty much confirmed what we had discussed over the phone and emails. Dr Bhatti advised that I should break my procedure into 2 days for better handling of my front and vertex area. (Clue: Always leave a day or two extra in your itinerary so you are flexible) Day 1 procedure Arrived sharp at 7:30 am at the clinic. A blood sample was withdrawn for HIV test….boy…was that a relief J Dr Bhatti gave me the details of what to expect during the day and tentative time these activities would take. This was really helpful as this helped me mentally prepare myself through each phase of the surgery…You need to know this as I kept on telling myself…half way done, almost done et:…. The procedure started with Dr Bhatti shaving my head to an equivalent of size 0 in US. I was almost bald…..the donor area was prepared and disinfected…..I must say that strong emphasis was placed throughout the procedure in proper sanitation and disinfecting practices….Anesthesia was applied… After about 20 mins, Anesthesia kicked in….Dr Bhatti was very polite and made sure that there was no pain at all before extracting from donor area….I must say that except those 3-4 mins when I was being shot for Anesthesia, this was practically a painless procedure….. At this point, my head was punched for preparation…….I must say although the noise of this might sound scary, but the procedure was painless…..I just kept on listening to my music to distract myself from this noise… Must mention that unlike some other clinics, Dr Bhatti stayed with me throughout the procedure which was very comforting…. For next 1-2 hours, donor area was utilized to extract about 3000 grafts….These were refrigerated right away….bandage was applied and we broke for lunch……. During the lunch break, the technician finished counting the grafts and advised me that she had extracted roughly 3120 grafts…. A nice lunch was served…I am an Indian and love Tandoori Roti/Daal Makhni…..You should specify your choice if you don’t like Indian food…. During the post lunch session, transplant process started. Dr Bhatti supervised this while his technicians performed the work. I must say this was a huge concern for me before the surgery that who is exactly performing the transplant. I was very happy to see that talented technicians in Dr Bhatti’s supervision did excellent work. Dr Bhatti kept a very close eye on the density and making sure that it was evenly done….. This process took about 2-3 hours with a few small breaks. Again, I must mention that by this time Anesthesia had well kicked in so no pain whatsoever. I was on my phone checking FB and sending images to my wife in US over Whatsap J……….. The transplant ended around 5:30 pm at which time Dr Bhatti wrapped me with a bandage and put a cap on the top…..I have a big size head and that’s the only thing I could request from the clinic to order some XXX-L caps so they can gently sit on the treated area…… I wore my cap and my friend picked me up to go back to Marriott …. Sleeping is a little discomfort for first few nights but it’s an insignificant issue in the grand scheme of things…. Day 2 Day 2, my surgery started right on time as scheduled for 12pm….We went through the same procedure and did about 1200 grafts for my vertex area….. Day 3 Dr Bhatti was nice to come Sunday morning for a final inspection/re-bandage and I left for my home town. A note about Staff Dr Bhatti’s staff is very polite and most importantly sensitive to your needs. I recall so many times during the surgery they would ask me if I need a 5 min break to stretch…..water…tea…et:…..I really felt very comfortable in the way they handled their business. Few Important Tips: 1. Avoid travel as much as possible for next few days…. 2. Even if you have to sit in Hotel and watch TV for next few days, it’s well worth it 3. Read Dr Bhatti’s post-op booklet thoroughly….This is an instruction booklet….you rarely will have a question for which you won’t find an answer….It’s a little funny because I called Dr Bhatti a few times after surgery ….and he was patient enough to tell me….Read Page # XXX from the booklet…and he was spot on…. 4. Your appearance would be impacted for a month or two….You need to be mentally prepared for it…..In my case, I did not try to hide….I actually formally announced before leaving for India that I am going for a transplant so I have to field less questions after I come back…It worked…..Chose the approach which suits you best… 5. In my personal advice, avoid a long flight for at least a week…..That’s what I did….It allowed things to settle down as I was too afraid to disturb the transplanted area…..during travel… Post-Op I completely followed directions in the booklet….The instructions start getting very easy after Day 21……There is nothing much to this section and it’s pretty straight forward…..After coming to US, I provided Dr Bhatti with monthly progress to make sure everything was in line…. About Dr Bhatti: This guy is a true gem…..Does not believe in false marketing practices….advertizing…. Like a master craftsman, does his work and let it speak….. Thoroughly impressed…… I am attaching my pictures…Any questions, please feel free to ping me……. Good Luck to you all…..
