  1. The post hair transplant care is very simple: 1. Spray saline water on your recipient area for every 2 hours periodically for approximately 7 days. The saline water keeps the scalp clean, moisturized and free of infections. It also soothes itching to some extent which one experiences when the skin is exfoliating or healing. Since one is not allowed to wash the scalp or touch it. 2. Take antibiotics, antacids and painkillers for 3 times a day for 7 days. 3. Wash the donor area with Betadine scrub (antiseptic solution) and spray it off with saline water. Apply Fucidin cream after the washing and drying of the donor area. 4. Sleep in the right posture. Usually the mind is aware and the body follows suite. You cannot run the recipient area while sleeping. It can be difficult for patients who have had he frontal as well as the crown area done at the same time. 5. Remain away from dust or polluted areas for at least 7 days. Wear a surgical cap and a loose baseball cap or a bandana for 7 days when leaving an enclosed safe environment. 6. Stay away from pets and children who could accidentally rub the recipient area. 7. Avoid heavy exercises. 8. Avoid staying in a reading position with the head tilted forward. It could cause he anaesthetic fluid to come down towards the face due to gravitation and cause swelling. The swelling shall persist for a day or two if it appears. However, it can be avoided by continuously pushing the fluid away from the center of the eyebrows towards the cheekbones wherein the fluid gets absorbed or distributed this reducing swelling. The swelling is not painful. 9. Head wash should be done after a specified time, approx 7 days. 10. Eat healthy. Have a good intake of proteins. 11. Manage stress. It is not possible to avoid stress but one must learn to prioritize and deflect. 12. Stay happy and share pictures with the doctor everyday or check up with the doctor every day. 13. Opt for any measure suitable to prevent further progression of baldness on the pre existing hair.
  2. Date of First sitting: 10/05/2019 and 11/05/2019 Place of Surgery: Eugenix Delhi (Gurgaon/ NCR) 58 years old, a senior officer was experiencing baldness for the last 10 years. After the initial progression of 5 years, the baldness was static. He had a family history of baldness in father and grandfather. After a thorough history taking and examination, it was decided to give him a good hairline reconstruction job and fill the crown area. Also to prevent the ongoing baldness (which is slow now), he was decided to be started upon medications. He had no history of any cardiac, gastrointestinal, neuromuscular or allergic issue. His donor area was average to good with a density of 80-85 units per square centimetre. The thickness of the hair was also average. There were salt and pepper colour of the donor's hair. His procedure was completed over two days. Some 3400 grafts were taken from his scalp donor area with the help of 0.9 mm trumpet punch. Another 1500 grafts were taken from his beard with the help of 0.75 mm serrounded punch. We will keep you posted on the progress.
  3. Hello, My boyfriend has been incredibly depressed for ten years about his hair loss and he just finally managed to get 20k together to have an FUE procedure done by John Diep out of SF. The surgery was done last Saturday March 23, 2019. We are highly concerned because we can see such obvious rows of straight lines running up from his head.. I wanted to post some pictures so people can let us know if this is normal and will somehow end up looking natural, or if he is going to have more of a “hair plug” look. My boyfriend is upset because he chose Dr Diep because he talks of being a hairline artist, but the Dr did very little of the procedure himself. He had young technicians do most of the work. Do these pictures look normal? Is this good work? All the photos we’ve seen online of post op FUE show a much more scattered pattern and the research we’ve done has all concluded rows/grids end up looking very unnatural. We would really appreciate any input you might have 😢
  4. Quick question, I’m day 3 post transplant and after day 2 I started to experience a little seeping from the top of my head of a clear like greasy fluid, now I believe it is the solution that was injected into my head to separate the skull from flesh to insert grafts but I’m just wondering if this is normal and has others experienced it and how long it lasted? The solution has to go somewhere so it’s not of a concern just wonder how long it lasts?
  5. This patient had a total of 1,815 grafts done over one session with Follicular Unit Strip method. The grafts were planted in the following areas: Hairline, 600 grafts Frontal Scalp, 765 grafts Right Temples, 225 grafts Left Temple, 225 grafts Photos shown below are pre op, and 9 months post op.
  6. Do you have to take any medications or use any special shampoos post-op if you go with FUT?
  7. Hello all, I've been lurking around the site for quite a while researching the ht procedure as well as doctors. I'm a N3. I've consulted with docs that have suggested anywhere from 1200-3000 grafts. I was booked with Rahal but got a bit scared off with the mega sessions and motorized punch as well as the lack of Doctor participation that has been reported on this site. I've seen some great results but just went with my gut. I've consulted with Bisagna and Cohen in person. Cohen suggesting Artas and 1200 grafts which I knew was way to conservative. Bisagna seems more in line with other online consults with 2500. From the results and reviews online, Bisagna is runner up. Other results that have been very impressive to me are Reddy and Maral. I think the post up pictures from these two are super clean with little swelling and redness. Super clean donor and recipient areas where some docs post op pics that look quite messy. I also see that Konior is another doc with super clean post ops but it doesn't look like he does much fue. I did reach out to him via email with no response. With this being said, does anybody know why some docs can pull off the neat, clean post op while others don't or can't. Is there some technique that these other docs are missing? Should this be a determining factor in choosing a surgeon? I've seen plenty of other not so clean post ops that have fantastic results so maybe this is a null point of concern??
  8. A common postoperative concern that my patients express is, "when can I safely shampoo my hair?" Our patients always return to our office the morning following their procedure. During this visit, we remove the protective bandage and perform the first hairwash. It also allows for any fine adjustment of follicle placement. The answer to "when" often depends on the characteristics of the follicles during graft placement (i.e. if the grafts are "slippery" or if the placement of a neighboring graft alters the depth of a nearby graft). Perhaps one of the most important characteristics is follicle root depth. The mean depth of a scalp hair follicle is 4.16mm. Our patients are generally able to gently wash their own scalp (including the grafts) on postoperative day 3 or 4. When we note particularly long grafts (as seen below), patients may safely perform a gentle shampoo slightly earlier (days 2 or 3). It is important to realize that these determinations are made by the physician performing the surgery as they are based on intraoperative findings. Fortunately, I believe all of the recommended physicians on this network are involved in all three phases of the procedure (pre-op, intra-op, and post-op). So, be sure to get your advice from them after the procedure. This patient had grafts over 5mm in depth. His pattern is seen day one postoperatively. He was able to perform a gentle hairwash on day 3 as a result of his hair characteristics.
  9. Hello I'm about 7 months post op from a FUE transplant and I'm worried I'm a slow grower so I was wondering if anybody has done anything personally to help or speed up growth or just has any advice on the matter. I'm already using generic finasteride and 5% rogaine foam and taking ginkgo biloba to increase blood flow to the scalp. Thanks! HairToHelp
  10. Hello everyone, Last week I posted about shaving 2-3 weeks post op (with an electric clipper). Now I have some other question/thread to share with you: We all know the rule is that in the first month after your HT you're going to shed most of the new implanted hairs as they entered in the telogeon phase. This is being true for me now I'm close to my 4th week post op. But! the remaining hairs that haven't fallen down don't seem to grow as fast as the non transplanted ones. I mean, some hairs are not falling but they aren't growing in length either. They just remain short. Is it normal or a matter of concern? What is expected to happen with them? At last, I have noticed two implanted follicles that have attached to the scalp a litle black point in the root. But I have not scabs at all as I've been showering properly since day 10th. Do you know what is this? Thanks
  11. Hello people. This is my thread:  Is it safe for grafts survival to shave down with no guard (0) about 2-3 weeks post op? I did it yesterday (18th day) since my scalp is I would say almost completely healed and with no scabs at all. Being said that, I feel some part of the recipient area where maybe I put some strength or contact with the skin a little bit sensitive, like numbness. I was carefully, though. I'm afraid that the electric clipper may be rather hot (I mean, hot for a healing post op skin but not hot as hell. You know how this clippers overheat a little bit when using) in contact with skin at one point, although this time was minimum. Is this heat risky for grafts survival? I'm starting to shed but, beyond this, I think everything is going well. I mean, I don't have redness because of the haircut or swelling. It just freaked me out this little pain and the fact of reading about sunburnings (I mean, excesive hot directly to the scalp). Should I worry? On the other hand, I'm very surprised because when I was trying to read other similar experiences about shaving down soon after post op, I read that in beard (facial) transplants you are able to shave (with razor!) at day 9. I wonder if that is not too irritating and much worse that I did. Let's say that it calmed me dow thinking about that. Or is it different based on the sort of hair transplantation?
  12. I've seen everywhere that the grafts are securely anchored at day 10 post op, but when it comes to haircuts, there isn't a solid answer. I've seen everything from 10 days to three weeks. I'm returning to work on day 10 and desperately need a haircut. I wish they would have just shaved my entire head during the operation! Many thanks.
  13. Hey guys I'm now on day 10 post op. I've noticed since day 8 scabs are flaking off with hair in them, I'd say I've lost about 20-30 hairs like this. The Dr advised that shedding would start between 2nd/3rd week and I'm worried it's started too early. Also, yesterday, a couple of scabs fells off after gentle massage from washing that bled slightly. I've checked the graft sites, but they still have the hair poking out through them. Generally, I'm still slightly pink and some of the graft sites feel tender when washing. I had my head shaved and I'm disappointed that my crown area looks much thinner than it did before the shave. It just doesn't seem to be growing back as quick. I had 200 grafts placed there at last minute, so wonder if this is shock loss? Sorry to have a moan...think it's post op blues :-(
  14. It is 3:00 AM (night/early morning) of what is to be my Day 8 (5000 grafts, FUT, surgery done on Monday 2/3/14). I was sleeping when I suddenly felt this "popping" sensation on my scalp and it went from the mid to the back in a chain reaction of sorts. It was not throughout all of the scalp... just the left side in the implanted area. I immediately ran to the bathroom to take a look... I didn't see any bleeding or anything out of the ordinary. Still hundreds of scabs on my head ( with the crusting)... that I plan to run my first "attack run" on later today in the shower after soaking them for 20 minutes. This would be the first day of doing that as advised by my doctor. I have not done anything to the implanted area either... picked, touched or tried taking the scab off. I always wear the provided surgical cap when I am outside home commuting ( which has only been to the clinic for the hair cleaning/wash). I went through the forums a bit and could not find any thing. Once again it was a "popping" sensation like a soda fizz. I suspect that some of my crusting or something else that was under tension on the scalp may have cracked since my scalp may have stretched a bit when I was sleeping. What do you guys think? I hope it is nothing serious or something that may have compromised any promising results.
  15. Ok so yesterday I was my 10th day post op after a 2650 graft hairline lowering transplant with Dr Damkerng Pathomavanich. I went and got my stitches removed and my donor area now feels 100% better and I can now actually put my head on a pillow without any pain. I have had no bleeding of grafts but on day 5 noticed 3 small hairs in the sink and worried, Dr said not to worry. I also have had no swelling whatsovever and washed my hair twice a day with the shampoo provided since transplant. I have wore a beanie hat since and sweat on some days as its hot in Thailand and done some day trips but always shower at night before bed. The Dr told me to put olive oil on graft area and start lightly rubbing and use shower to remove crusts so I have done this and always do it over a white sink so I can see any lost hair. I have noticed sometimes there are 3-6 hairs which are obviously grafts in the sink after cleaning hair. These are definitely parts of the grafter hair as i have long hair covering the rest of my head. Is it too early to be shedding or am I a quick healer? now as though I asked the Dr if I can drink alcohol and he said yes no problem now after 10 days. Other than this things seem to be clearing up nicely and healing. My question is ....Is this all ok?? please be honest as I am getting a bit paranoid! 10- 11 days shedding... alcohol can be drank now... and i rub at my grafts to remove scabs?
  16. Hi Everyone, Just joined (finally). This forum has been the biggest help the past few years. Its through it I found my superb Surgeon Dr Path in Bangkok. Ok, quick simple question. There is a lot of mixed responses when I search it. I just want to ask if its completely normal for hair to start shedding at around day 8? I am 10 days post Op and noticed first shed of a transplanted hair around Day 7/8 and now each day am seeing more hair shed when I wash. Have been following all the right instructions and have been extremely gentle when washing. Have had no head bumps, no bleeding, all has been so great post op. I have just read on many different web sites that the transplanted hair usually doesn't shed until after 2 weeks. I searched at least 15 different post care instructions from many transplant clinics all over the world and they said typically it starts at 2 weeks. If someone could please help put my over thinking mind at ease. I am sure its OK as no "bulbs" or "grafts" have come out just tiny hairs shedding. Long question shortened - Is shedding transplanted hair only after one week/8 days too soon? Many thanks T
  17. So, it's been exactly one month since my FUE procedure with Dr. Rahal. As expected, at week 3 the shedding of the transplanted follicles began. Now it appears about 90% of the transplanted follicles have shed, as you can see my original hairline in the photos. The scalp in the reciepent area has regained most of its sensation, yet is still a bit pink. Hopefully a good sign as bloodflow is needed in the area. Donor area is filling in nicely and has healed well. Now a 2-month wait before seeing the initial signs of new growth.
  18. It has been just over 2 weeks since my FUE procedure and the grafts have started to shed a lot. There is some redness in the recipient area, possibly due to the first application of minoxidil 5%, which tingles a lot. The donor area is healing nicely, with a bit of itchiness and redness which should subside within the next 4-5 days. As I enter the ugly-duckling phase I am happy to report no complications with the healing process, and looking forward to resuming my normal exercise regimen sometime in the next week or so.
  19. I'm wondering what people do/change in their lifestyle for the first few weeks post OP. Do you isolate yourself indoors and wait it out? Do you wait a few days to heal, put on a hat and continue where you left off prior to the HT? I'd like to hear some stories/example of what other people do to pass the time.
  20. I have just had my FUT surgery but 10 days after surgery I'm being concerned by some kind of lost hairs in my scalp. As you can see in the pictures there are some lines appearing on my scalp with no hair while a few days after surgery these lines did not exist. I talked to my surgeon and he assured me that this phenomenon is normal and occurs for some patients. I'm aware of the fact that soon after surgery I would lose all my new hair and I am aware of telogen phase and shock loss. But based on my limited research, I have not found any proof that this phase starts just a week after surgery. To the best of my knowledge, I shall expect to start losing my hair months after surgery. Besides, I have not seen anyone reporting this problem. I am really worried now and any advice would be much appreciated.
  21. Here is a video of me talking about my experience with hair transplant surgery. I figure this is more personal than typing it all out. The surgery took place in Tulsa Oklahoma on Tuesday 8/14/12 at Hair Restoration Center. The surgeon was Dr. David Josephitis. I will be updating as the healing process continues.
  22. I had hair transplant approximately 18 months earlier. The hair in the recipient area is good but the problem is half the hair in the recipient area(the tansplanted hair) is still curly and frizzy. Is this the permanent nature of the transplanted hair or will they become normal?
  23. Hi, i have a HT procedure booked in for early August and would just like some clarification on my best options post op. I'm travelling abroad (only about 1.5hrs by plane) for the op, and have read conflicting information on what's likely to be my physical state afterward. I have a few options. 1) return home via short plane journey the day after the op, 2) hang on a few days (possibly hotel-room-bound) until potential swelling goes, or 3) make a bit of a holiday of things for perhaps 2 weeks before returning home! I realise every patient is individual and as such will experience differing after effects but some educated feedback would be appreciated. The reason i ask is that i didn't realise that post op swelling was so great a risk. Or atleast the degree to which swelling may occur. But i saw a couple of photos which were pretty bad and have been advised by the clinic (when i told them i may hire a car after the 2nd day to travel a little), that the swelling could be such that it may not be recommended to drive for several days post op. Unfortunately this leaves me stuck in a confined area with little to entertain me as i'm making the trip alone. So really, if i'm going to look like an orangutan after a boxing match i'd rather be that way in my own home with creature comforts. Does anyone have any experience of or advice on whether a next day (short) flight should pose any problems? The clinic seem to think this will be fine and not a problem as swelling should only really kick-in around day 2/3 and be gone by day 5-8 worst case scenario. I'm being put off staying there in case i feel like crap and can't do much anyway.. i'd just be throwing money into a hotel room and getting cabin fever! Please, any opinions welcome from people who've been in this position, know somebody who has, or indeed docs with any facts on the issue. I do realise that some decent R&R is necessary post op. The quality of this may be alot better if i can get it at home after some potential aggravation of a short flight?? Thanks in advance for your responses. Cheers.
