I am at stage 7 Norwood with my hair loss. It started in my late teens and I'm now in my mid-thirties.
I'm looking at getting a hair transplant at the Dermalife clinic in India. I have been advised that they can transplant 9000 units in three sessions. 7000 units would be transplanted over two consecutive days and 3000 units on a return visit three months later.
The transplant would be a mixture of beard, chest and head hair.
In the first two sessions I've been advised that they can take 4,500 to 5000 from my head and 1,000 to 1,500 from my beard.
I then advised that I have a reasonably thick chest covering and was told that this can be used as well.
I've attached pictures of my hair and beard.
I'd be interested to hear any opinions on whether this is a realistic assessment of my condition.
I am in my mid to late 30's, from India and now living in AZ, USA. Have been losing hair for about 15 years now. It has progressed to Norwood VI and fast approaching VII.
I have been using hair concealers for 10 years now and have masked my balding by doing so. I am tired of having toppik all over my bath and bed and would like to cut it down to the crown only and not in front.
I still have a thin covering of hair in my hairline due to a small FUT procedure in India in 2006. It was a very small one by a plastic surgeon. The good news is, the scar was minimal and I have some front hairline for toppik that helped hide my balding.
I will probably use toppik for rest of my life, but would like to stop using it in my frontal hairline and also have some hair in the crown to help hold on to the fibers. I am looking for coverage and illusion to have a decent hair coverage in my 40's.
Using this website, I had my FUT surgery in early December 2015 with Dr. Keene. It was a 2 day procedure of 4100 grafts. The procedure was much more painful than my last one (probably around 500 or so grafts) due to number of injections required in the scalp over two days. Those were the most painful part of the procedure.
Dr. Keene was excellent, as well as her staff. I drove from Phoenix and spent two nights in Tucson and then drove back the third day after Shampoo with the clinic in the morning. Was able to drive easily and had no issues or complications.
Did not wash my hair for 9 days and just kept it moist every hour with Saline solution as instructed. Removed the sutures on 9th day in Phoenix - process was very smooth and not painful at all. Then had my first hair wash after removal. Gently scrubbed out the scabs over the next 2-3 days and by two weeks had a nice clean head.
Started using Toppik after 20 days, not on a daily basis, but when I have important meetings, visits. Been using Toppik on an average of 2 days a week for the last 5 months and wash it off every evening. I have started Minoxidil twice a day from the 1 month mark, No tablets at this time.
The implanted hair fell off in 3-4 weeks and new growth started around the 3 month mark. Thought will share my story as there are not too many Norwood 6 stories in the forum.
I am cautiously optimistic at this time and as long as I can stop using Toppik on my hairline, and have some coverage on my crown on back for Toppik, I will be a happy camper.
Attached are pre-op pics taken at the clinic before the surgery...
Hello everyone, I'm at my 30 day countdown before my 4000 + procedure with Dr. Vories, scared as hell and nervous. I've never had a procedure and I've been contemplating one for 10 years. I didn't want a strip scar and hope to keep my hair short with a very conservative hairline. For the experts out there please let me know what you'd recommend and any other informational help, hints or tips I'd appreciate. Also I don't know the difference in the 50-70 sq. ct. hair groupings can someone elaborate on what that means and what I should request from my Dr. I've been in contact with Dr. Vories and his staff and feel very comfortable moving forward and will obviously take the Doctor's orders as we go along, but just wanted the forum's opinions, advice, comments. Thanks I really appreciate it.
I've uploaded some photos to show where I'm starting from and would appreciate any feedback on what you think I should expect with the 4000 grafts and also what med, vitamin, rogaine, etc. regiment you would recommend, now and after the procedure. I know I'm pretty bald so I figure I'll have to have another large procedure after this one in the future. But was hoping to get something conservative and short. Thanks for your help!
