  1. I am exactly 5 weeks post-op from my 2.5 day procedure at HLC. I thought this might be a good time to share my brief thoughts about the process while I play the waiting game. Intro: My research on youtube, FB groups and HRN led to me the shortlist of Bicer, Pekiner, Keser and HLC. Yes, these are all in Turkey. That was not my criteria. The criteria was first and foremost results, then second was price per graft, next was wait times for actual procedure. I did not want to go above 3 Euros per graft. I reached out to HLC sometime in September or early October. They looked at my photos and asked what my expectations were, and that if my expectations were to have a dense result, it would not be possible. If I wanted a less dense result, where I would have to be extra creative with my hair styling, then it would be possible to have a procedure. They then advised me to revisit this getting on medication to see if donor/recipient area progressed in the right direction. I was initially told I needed 8-9K grafts and that my donor area was not sufficient for full coverage. Meds: I started with 1.25mg (5mg generic fin cut into quarters) every other day and topical minoxidil. After two months a great results, I switched to 1mg EOD brand name propecia, as I did not like cutting pills. I also switched from topical to oral minoxidil, 2.5mg taken daily (ED). One of the reasons I switched to oral was so that I could resume minoxidil soon after my HT procedure. I did not want to wait 2-4 weeks to resume topical. I have been on these meds 6 months prior to surgery Travel: booked my trip to stay 10 days post op, as I wanted to heal and make sure grafts were somewhat secure before going in a pressurized cabin with travel back to Texas (13 hour minimum flight). I arrived Sunday evening, met the driver after getting my luggage and proceed to HLC without issue. Procedure: I run through this section pretty fast. Pre-op photos taken. Doctor Özgur comes in with his team of doctors (Elif, Bekir, Cengiz, Umut) and start examining my scalp and beard. Combing through it, making their markings and proposing a hairline. Measuring the required area at 50cm2 needed to cover front and midscalp for this HT, leaving a 2nd HT for crown next year. I was pleasantly surprised to hear I actually have very good donor area, around 8K in my scalp and another 2K from my beard (under jawline). This shows how much progress I had with meds, also that photos sent for consult have to be assessed conservatively. We decided on 50cm2 with coverage of about 103 sq cm. I wanted to address temples but they suggested I focus on that next time. I did not feel rushed at all, they took a solid 30-40 minutes at minimum. Procedure was over 2.5 days, 5 sessions total, 2 sessions per day. Extractions were performed by Dr. Cengiz, implantations performed by Dr. Bekir. The procedure for the most part was painless, aside of the initial anesthesia needles (ouch) and towards the end of a session where I felt the anesthesia starting to wear off. I buckled down and took the slight discomfort as I did not want excessive anesthesia, as too much would harm my graft survival. Recovery: Followed the post-op instructions, spraying recipient and applying Bepanthol cream to donor area. The worst part in sleeping, and the day 4-7 random needles in the back of my head (nerves coming back online? haha). **PHOTO TIME** Pre-op: Mid-day after day 3, all done Donor: Graft count: Day 11, scabs removed: Day 18, top view: Day 19, front view: 5 weeks exact, from today: Conclusion: I am far from any conclusions. This thread will log my journey which I have just started. I will try my best to answer any questions. I would like to thank HRN for providing this platform and making it easy to access cases, perform research and reach out to users. A special thanks to @MachoVato
  2. Hi all, I have many things to write so I hope it will help other people and during this period I can also achieve what I am looking for. I had a bothced/failed hair transplant (so-called 3700 grafts) in December 2019 in Istanbul with the issues below; wrong angles and direction depleted donor area in the certain section pluggy view due to multiple hair grafts in the hairline and in my temples too low and asymmetric hairline with an unnatural look bumpiness and uneven skin level (ridgining) since transplanted grafts were not trimmed around its shaft - I realized that after removal of the transplanted hairs I talked to top-tier doctors to find out how to fix it (Eugenix Clinic, Hasson & Wong, Dr. Feriduni, Dr. Bisanga, Dr. Koray Erdogan) almost all of them suggested a 2 step approach; taking out the transplanted hair (excision of the grafts) and re-use them if possible planning a hairline construction operation However at that time I was unhappy with the look of my head due to hair transplant and I decided to remove transplanted hair with 3 full sessions of electrolysis 8 sessions of diode laser 8 sessions of fractional laser to improve the scars (provided only mild improvement) last but not least I also had pilonidal sinus operation due to ingrown hairs in my left temple Unfortunately since transplanted hair grafts depth is also problematic I continued carry approx. 30 percent of the transplanted hair in a scattered way after all these sessions. After all of these procedures, research I am still not able to find a proper solution that I can proceed with. I wish I never had a hair transplant because I would prefer to be bald without any scarring on my scalp. It has affected both my personal and professional life for the last 2 years... Options that I was considering but still I am not 100 percent sure what to do next to improve my current situation: Option-1: Since my forehead is quite big, I am just hoping I have the laxity and since I have limited donor capacity I was considering scalp reduction to get rid of the area that has ridging and transplanted hair. After this operation maybe I would have a small hair transplant operation just to cover the scar from surgery. Complication-1: The most problematic area is my temples and I am not sure if we have a chance to reduce that area with an operation because most of the operations I checked are more reducing the frontal zone with a linear line. Decision-1: NO GO. It is too costly from both time and money perspectives. In addition, afterwards I would again require another hair transplant to cover scars from such a surgery. Option-2: SMP to cover the scars both in my donor area scars and recipient area scars with a more conservative hairline and temple (like a person who has receding hairline with low/medium density) Complication-2: SMP seems like the best viable option for my donor area however for the hairline I have ridging, slit scars and quite sensitive skin in the recipient area after all of these lasers, so I am not sure how it will look like in the frontal and temple areas. Decision-2: NO GO. Due to risk of having ink might spread on my skin and bumpiness will remain even if I had SMP. + In natural light it looks so fake, no offense SMP artists... Option-3: 2nd hair transplant operation to reconstruct the hairline and camouflage problematic areas that had undergone the first failed hair transplant. Complication-3: Limited donor area if I will continue to lose hair in the future. Decision-3: GO! Because I was tired to go dermatologists and I saw many good repair results and together with finasterid I thought I can protect my existing hair and reconstruct my hairline and temples. My goal was simply just to get rid of this situation on my scalp, forehead, and temples. So here are chronological order of my situation. Before the failed surgery (2019): 6 months after failed surgery and depleted donor area (2020) in a butcher in Istanbul (NOT HLC): I think you understand why I wanted to get rid off from these.. (At that time I was not able to support 2 surgery in abroad with my budget..) After multiple electrolysis and laser treatments, mostly tinted sunscreen/cream applied, (2021): m I also had pilonidal sinus operation due to ingrown hairs, imagine the direction of the hair grafts... Fractional laser was doing some temporary improvements but after remaining hairs started to grow I was having redness on the scalp. Operation Planning in HLC Ankara (Feb 22, 2022): Scarring and persistent grafts are more visible in here. If I remember correct graft distribution as follows: Area 1: 60 grafts per cm2 Area 2: 30 grafts per cm2 23rd - 24th of Feb, 2022 Operation Days in HLC Ankara: 2 weeks after 2nd repair procedure in HLC: 2.5 months after: As of today (Day 115) in a favorable light and perspective: Actual progress with natural light, again day 115: Actual progress with flash light, again day 115: I think after all of these things my progress is slow but I try to be optimistic since it is 115 days. I don't feel that strange vibration/sensation in my scalp but I hope my non-virgin scalp provide what I need for new grafts, wish me luck and I hope achieve more density in the upcoming months. I want to send special thanks to @MachoVato for his subject, he helped me a lot when I was trying to make my decision for repair operation in HLC. @GatsbyI even disturbed you on Instagram and now I am on the forum to help others. I wish big luck to people on the HT journey. Please, please and please I beg you, do your research and if you are looking as bald just accept it, grow beard and go to gym
  3. Sorry, it’s probably been asked 100 times already but I’m struggling to confirm which clinic to get my HT procedure done at (NW 3 looking to recreate hairline). Disregarding cost. Have the opportunity to go with Dr Turan, Dr Pekiner or HLC. Right now I’m going with HLC because that’s who I’ve read and seen a lot of good things about. But then you won’t actually know which dr will perform the procedure until the day. Would love another opinion?
  4. Hello, I had 2,700 grafts transplanted via FUE on my temples by HLC Clinic in Ankara, Turkey in April (8 months ago). I had been on Finasteride-only for a year prior to the transplant, and I have not used another medication up to this point. The results in the beginning were great, but I noticed early that there was a patch on the right temple and it hasn’t filled in completely after this time. I have considered the fact I could be a late bloomer, but when I check closely I don’t see any sign of new hair follicles, just emptiness in the space I hoped to be filled with hair. Others have had better results in lesser amount of time and it’s disheartening. I contacted HLC 6 months in and was told to wait until month 9 to reassess. This is in no way a slight to HLC, they are a great clinic that produces great results, It just seems like i’m unlucky and it’s causing me to lose hope. I really need this to work out—It’s life or death. What should I do? Apply Minoxidil and see if the grafts will come alive, get another procedure, wait it out? Please help, Thank you.
  5. 37 year old, NW3, mainly receding on temples with no thinning where there is hair. Donor in great condition. Been consulted to need in region of 2500-3000 grafts. Done a lot of research and my choice was HLC but I've seen some recent not so satisfactory results and its making me reconsider. I'm waiting on consultation from Pinto & Ferreira but I understand that could be a while..... I also looked into Bicer but she doesn't do all the work which puts me off. Pekiner seems to have gone missing? Clinic & social media seem to be gone? Anyone with experience in this area able to alleviate on some of these concerns? For instance, how important is that a doctor carries out the extraction & implantation? (Which Bicer does not) How much should I read into a few recent bad results ive seen from HLC? Surely all clinics have some bad results? Whilst in contact with HLC, they said they guarantee to offer free touch ups if the hair does not turn out as expected. My budget is no more than €10k so any clinics with a rate more than €3 per graft are out of the question.
  6. Thanks in advance for any help gents! Basically I'm in the research phase of trying to decide on a clinic and/or doctor to do FUE. I'm 44 years old and have seen my hair progressively pull back on the sides and across the top for the past few years. I would like to have my hairline brought back down on the sides and front, as well as possibly fill in areas prone to later recession. The good news is I think (you guys tell me otherwise) I've got good donors for this procedure, as my hair has been notoriously thick across most of my head. But, I've been on Dutasteride .05 for at least 2 years and I've tried Minoxidil 5% topical for 1 year consistently, and haven't had any noticeable changes, as my hairline continues to retreat. Based on some research here and the rest of the web I had all but decided to go with Dr. Pekiner but I can't seem to find or get into contact with his clinic. So I'm basically starting over in my search. I don't have a preference in country and/or state. I'm based in the U.S. (Arkansas), but will obviously travel to the Dr. I feel like can get me the best results. Again, I'm not trying to find the cheapest clinic, but one where I feel confident I have the best chance at getting this procedure done correctly. This forum has been amazing, and I hope to be able to document my journey from start to end for others in the same boat. Thanks again and I look forward to reading the replies.
  7. Hello everyone, I am 30 year old and NW2, and thinking of booking FUE for my hairline improvement with HLC. So far communication is super slow, I can only email them and get replies in about 2 days. (Is info@fue-hlc.com their official email, just to be sure?) I see good review about them, but I've never seen any reviews with their unshaved option, and I've attached a few pictures of mine. I'll be travel from Toronto Canada, so it's a long flying trip for me. Any tips for travelling to Ankara turkey would be great. Any suggestions would be appreicated.
  8. Hello! I had an online consultation with HLC where they determined I would be a great candidate for a FUE procedure with an estimated 2500 grafts. High hairlines run in my family, but I have been receding since I was 19 or 20. It's not in a terrible place (I THINK its probably a NW2.5 with no crown thinning), but it feels like the recession is slow enough that a frontal lowering HT (conservatively) and rebuild of the temples could be successful for me. I've been on FIN for almost 6 years. I'm not really sure if I have thin or coarse hair. I've always considered in thick and coarse, but maybe its just thick. It's wavy, rough feeling, and requires very strong product (cement clay) to style. Any thoughts or opinions would be really appreciated.
  9. I have been a long time follower and silent observer on this site for a VERY long time. I am posting my review in order to pay back the many times I relied on this site for information. After years and years of research and deciding if this was something I wanted to do, I FINALLY pulled the trigger in April to make an appointment with HLC Ankara. I researched many clinics and doctors in Turkey and settled on HLC after seeing consistent results and positive reviews from the clinic. The whole process of making an appointment feels extremely informal but I was prepared for this after reading some other detailed reviews. Everything I did was through email (I live in Chicago) and electronically sending a deposit just feels like Im about to be scammed. I was happy to find out that when I landed in Ankara in September it wasn't a scam and I was greeted at the airport with the ride to the clinic. They do provide communal lodging which is a 4 bedroom apartment unit across the street from the clinic. You get your own room with 2 shared bathrooms. You will see other patients at different stages of the procedures in the apartment as well. I was weary of this at first because no one mentioned this, but I came to rather enjoy it. You end up spending a lot of time with your flat mates and bond over the experience. You also get to ask a million questions to those who just had their procedure which calms your nerves. The clinic did provide breakfast, lunch and dinner with additional snacks in the apartment unit. The second day you get up early so you can eat and begin the long day. They do blood work and run all the tests first. Then all of the doctors, technicians and staff call you in to assess your hair and take some photos. Dr. Ozgur leads the discussion and planning amongst the doctors. They then shave your head and draw the plan of what you all agreed upon for the new hairline. This is the stage when they determine the final number of grafts, the density and the total cost of the procedure. At no time did I feel pressured to do more or less grafts and totally made me feel like I was in control of the decision. One of the main reasons I chose HLC was the fact that the procedure is done by actual doctors versus the technicians. I also like the fact that its a manually punch. In my case, I had one doctor that was in charge of the extractions with another in charge of the implantations (same doctors both days). They used a .8mm punch. The first day was 12 hours and was VERY long. The extractions seemed to go quick but the implantations was a test of the mind. Very little pain throughout the entire process except for when they numb you. DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR MORE ANESTHESIA if you start to feel something. They are more than happy to give you more and the last thing they want is for you to be in pain. Everyone is BEYOND nice and is extremely helpful at the clinic. So Day 1 they broke into 2 sessions with a total of 2,141 grafts. Day 2 was much shorter (about 4 hours) where they extracted the remaining 1,064 grafts. Singles: 277 Doubles: 1,257 Multiples: 1,671 They wrap your head after the procedure and make you stay one more night so they can make sure no grafts have come loose after your first nights sleep. After your final check up and post op instructions they send you on your way. I am now about 3 months post op and have documented everything and have been making regular updates to my instagram page and my Youtube channel for those who want to see my detailed recoverable process: Instagram Handle: Mane_Man2019 YOUTUBE CHANNEL (most recent update): I hope this review is helpful and I will try to update from time to time. Here are some additional photos of me before, during and within the first week of the actual procedure.
