  4. Hey everyone Long time reader of this site and first time poster! First of all, I would like to thank everyone here who share their experience and give recommendations..you guys are awesome for helping guys like me I am 27 and Lives in Canada...balding runs in the family and need in a transplant badly but can't decide on surgeon. I read so many good reviews on doctors from turkey on this forum and contacted two of the best Dr. Koray Erdogan & Dr. Hakan Dogney. Email exchange with Asmed: They responded asking for more pictures and when I sent few more with wet hair, Dr. Koray responded saying that I need 4500 - 5000 grafts, (which is 2.5 €/ graft)...where I will end up 11,250 Euro which I can't afford at the moment. But as I see many "before and after" pictures in the internet, I believe I wont be needing that many grafts (may be 3000 - 3500 should do). Email exchange with Dr. Hakan: His assistant (Mustafa) responded very quickly saying that i might need 4000 grafts and its 2 €/ graft. but if I book a date this month, they will offer 25% discount. So will end up paying 6000 €. But im doubtful on this doctor because I saw a very bad review of him on this forum (I know its not ethical to judge someones work based on one or two bad reviews) but i am really worried. Also, dr koray suggested that I should use Finasteride, but I see the side effects of it (so, not willing to take the risk). I see fantastic reviews of this doctor and his procedure and results seems absolutely phenomenal. But from the people who use Finasteride, can I know how is your experience? Is there any one who recently got the surgery from dr. hakan and may i know how is it? (his price is way cheaper than dr. koray but recent bad reputation is turn off) Basically, Im looking for a good surgeon who performs FUE via manual punch and at reasonable price in turkey. Indai: Ive seen few people go to india for transplant, because it is cheaper than turkey, but I don't know who is best..any recommendations are highly appreciated and thank you for responding.

  13. !!! If you are considering Dr. Hakan Doganay and AHD Clinic in Antalya please read this first!!! I am a former patient of aforementioned doctor. First, I will sum up my personal opinion of the clinic and the situation they have put me into, then in a later post I will try my best to share my story as detailed as possible. In my opinion choosing him was the worst decision of my life. Though I am greatly influenced emotionally, I will try to be as objective as possible, and let the reader decide whether I am right or wrong. I have created a picasa album where I am documenting everything in detail. (find links below) A few words about me: I am 26 years old, been dealing with hair loss since I was 18. Hair loss runs in my family, both my brother and my father is Norwood 5-6. I always kept my hair medium-long so I thought I only had a receding hairline. The last few years I was in depression because of my hair loss and thought only getting my hair back could make me happy again. I trusted Dr. Hakan Doganay and AHD Clinic and now I am in worse shape than before, I can back up anything I am stating below: - I arrived to Dr Hakan Doganay with a receding hairline and he merely looked at my head and did not evaluate my hair loss and miniaturization at all. If he did, it would had become clear that I not only have a receding hairline but a full, advanced norwood 5A-6 balding pattern. If I was told that, I would never had went through with the procedure. I clearly articulated before the procedure that I do not want to take propecia due to sides. We talked about potential future hair loss given my family history, but I was not informed that I am already way down the road. ( I became aware of my hairloss situation when my hair started to grow back postop) - Dr. Hakan Doganay did not evaluate my donor capacity either. He carelessly drew a new (somewhat low) hairline on my head using up 2500 grafts (for which I already paid for in advance). He did not warn me about my ongoing hair loss, or come up with a conservative game plan for the long term. - In the IAHRS website it was written that Dr. Hakan Doganay extracts and implants the grafts himself, I only found out later that he uses techs with very little experience do all the extraction and a part of the implantation as well. [Link removed by moderator - see Terms of Service) ]Dr. Hakan Doganay – Turkey Hair Transplant MD | IAHRS Member[/url] As people pointed it out, this website is not affiliated with this forum hence I can not make references to it, I did get a link to the clinic's website before the procedure which stated the head technician extracts the grafts and Dr Hakan Doganay implants the hairline. In my case it was not the head technician who extracted the grafts but an ordinary technician and not only Dr Hakan Doganay implanted the hairline but the head technician as well. It was also told me by the clinic retrospectively that the technicians have minimum 4 years experience. - edited 27/10/15 - They may have wasted a number of my grafts and to compensate either harvested more and/or implanted less grafts. I admit, this one claim I cannot prove. However the techs were dropping equipment and cursing during the operation and I have a picture with discarded grafts laying on top of my head. I have uploaded my post-op donor picture and a bunch of post op donor pictures from other clinics’ 2500 graft procedures and compared to them my donor area looks overharvested and thinned out in certain points. In my opinion they either transected a lot of grafts, harvested more or didn’t care about the pattern at all. When I mentioned the donor scarring they told me that after a FUE procedure one should wear its hair at least 1-1,5 cm long to cover it!! To my understanding the very reason of a FUE procedure is to be able to wear my hair 4-5mm long. Anyway, my hair is longer than 1,5 cm and the signs of the scarring is still visible. Anyone can check it and decide. As people pointed it out I can not substantiate the claim of wasting more than those two grafts that are laying on top of my head-edited 27/10/15 - Upon questioning they told me that they implanted 50 grafts/cm2 (check the pictures to see if that is true) and that they have harvested 2500 grafts (check the pictures if that is true) Upon questioning they told me I have an average donor with 45-50 grafts/cm2, which is a guess at best as they never measured it, and it is way out of the literature which states an average donor is between 65-85 grafts/cm2. If my donor density was in fact 50 grafts/cm2 that would had meant that it was low and I was not suitable for a FUE hair transplant. Distribution of Human Hair in Follicular Units - ResearchGate - It has been 4 month since the operation and my recipient area never looked good for one minute since. It is red, bumpy with red spots and minimal growth. Moreover, a number of the grafts that were implanted by the tech are misaligned. I have been in contact with the clinic since and all they had to tell me was everything looks fine. To be factual at one point around month 2 after repeatedly asking about folliculitis they recommended me to take antibiotics for 5 days, and when 3 month post-op I was still in bad shape and I told them I am even willing to fly back to Antalya they offered me a prp treatment, an ozone treatment, and some cream and a shampoo for free but it did not improve my situation. 2 weeks ago I got so fed up, I have contacted a trusted hair restoration surgeon and a dermatologist. A bacterial culture was taken from my head which came back positive. I have been prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory cream and for the first time in 4 months I am seeing improvements. My only wish now is to shave my head but I am left with a low, uneven hairline with thinning all over behind it and a badly scarred / overharvested donor. Preop postop + photos of 2500 graft FUE extraction to compare Recipient Donor Future balding pattern I am aware that the full result of a hair transplant can only be seen after 12 months so my situation might improve, however even if I’ll have good growth (which I doubt) I will lose my hair in a norwood 5A-6 pattern very soon and I do not have nearly enough donor to compensate for it. A number of people will say that 4 months is too early to evaluate a result and I might have shock loss in the donor area, and I just might be a late grower so, to be fair I have created a picasa album where I will document my case from pre-op through the 12 months so anyone can evaluate them himself independently. After 12 month I will shave my head so the donor scarring could be evaluated as well. However I have reason to believe that the problems I described will remain, as after digging rigorously (which I should have done before) I have found numerous other ex-patents with similar problems and recurring themes, namely: - poor growth - bad donor scarring - misaligned grafts and poor growth on the side where the tech implanted the grafts. However, I was in denial and depression due to my hair loss and my judgement was impaired by my emotional state. Seeing the good results posted by the clinic, the IAHRS membership and the recommendation given by this site was enough for me to trust Dr. Hakan Doganay and AHD Clinic blindly. I think they have violated the ethical guidelines of the IAHRS at least in 3 points: IV. The select member will not provide treatments that are deemed pointless or harmful by the IAHRS, or ones that an informed and competent patient refuses. V. The select member will ensure patients receive the information and support they need to make important decisions about hair loss prevention and improvement of their existing condition. Members will answer questions as truthfully as they can and respect patients’ decisions, unless these decisions put the patient or others at risk of harm. If members cannot agree with their requests, they are required to explain why. IX. The select member acknowledges that he/she is in a position to affect each patient’s appearance, self-confidence, and possibly the emotional, social, and professional success of the patient for his/her entire life. With every treatment, the emotional well-being of the patient will be considered as important as the outcome of the actual treatment itself. The lifelong effect of each treatment will be considered in light of potential continuing hair loss. I cannot understand how Dr. Hakan Doganay can still be recommended by this site. Sites like this carry a huge responsibility because uneducated patents like me (and others) are misled and falsely assured by the recommendation. If he was not, I (and many others) probably would had never chosen him. In my experience they are more like a hair transplant mill than a quality clinic. I was rushed through the whole procedure starting from the inadequate evaluation through the operation itself which (for the most part) was carried out by techs with minimal experience. I have reason to believe they are having 2-4 procedures a day seven days a week in two locations. As people pointed it out, I can not substantiate the claim that they are doing more than 2 procedures a day and I was told by the clinic that the techs have minimum 4 years experience -edited 27/10/15 They sold me their clinic and their procedure as top-notch and less invasive, I only found out now that using micromotor for extraction and Choi implanter for implantation is much more invasive than the techniques used by leading clinics (manual punch, custom made blades, lateral slits. This might be evident for the seniors but it is not for the newbies. Yes, I was uneducated). Upon rigorous research it also became evident that there are good results only posted by the clinic itself. I have also learned never to go to a clinic which generates its revenue purely based on the number of grafts they transplant (like them) and don’t charge a fix price. This revenue model will only motivate them to scale up their operation and transplant as many grafts in as little time as possible. I am aware of the gravity of my allegations, and I stand behind them. I am a real patient of Dr. Hakan Doganay which I can prove, I am open to any question by anyone. I have created this thread to share my story and get the independent opinion of a third party. I am also inviting all the linked patents, other doctors to this thread as well as the representatives of Dr. Hakan Doganay. I am open to a debate. I will apologize for and withdraw any statement that anyone can disprove. I have nothing to gain out of this, but I felt a moral obligation to share my story.
  14. These are fixing bad hair transplants with 7058 Graft, Norwood 7 results from a 35 years old patient. He doesn’t use any medicine. The patient had 2 unsuccessful FUT operations from another clinics before coming us, and there was a big scar on the donor area on the back of the head. The patient told us that he had to keep his hairs short since previous clinics implanted double and multiple hair grafts on the hair line, and since hairs on this front line were not natural at all due to wrong angles. However, when the hairs were short, the scar on the donor area was appearing. The patient suffered and he was wearing a cap in his daily life due to this situation. We planned operations to make the transplanted hairs more natural, and minimize bad appearance of the scar. However, we told the patient that the supply of donor areas will not be enough to cover whole hairless area, and density will not be high. FIRST OPERATION: ===> We extracted 312 multiple (mostly 3-4 hair grafts) hair grafts from the front line from the previous FUT operations. Then we implanted these hairs through vertex areas. ====> We waited 10 days after the first operation that the operation area from the first operation recovered. Then we extracted 1370 graft from the back of the head and implanted them to the hair line, and through middle area. ====> We implanted additional 2573 beard grafts in two consecutive days. ====> 1 day after implanting beard grafts, we extracted the flad of the scar on the back of the head from the previous FUT operations to make the scar smaller. SECOND OPERATION: ====> After 1 year we managed to extract 965 hair graft from the back of the head since after our first operation the FUT scar was smaller. ====> Next day, we extracted additional 1838 beard graft since the supply of the beard area was still rich, and there was no any sign of the extraction after the first operation. Whole process took 7 days, and the patient is very happy with his result from our clinic. He got a micro pigmentation operation from another clinic without informing us, and unfortunately it seems that the result of this pigmentation operation is not successful. We are planning another operation to camouflage this pigmentation. 16. I wanted to make this post for a while because this forum was so helpful for me when I made my decision to get FUE with Dr. Hakan Dognay. I had my procedure in November of 2013 so I am just going to really touch on my experience, advice and results but I am open to questions! As far as my “hair loss story” I had been self-conscious about my hair loss since high school. I had a small bald spot but it didn’t bother me until my hairline started receding. I started findecide in 2011 and people started teasing me about my hair about this time. I started thinking about doing this one day and knew Turkey was a great economical way to get the procedure done right. In 2012 I was transferred to Azerbaijan for my job, which is just a quick 2-hour flight from Turkey. This is when I got really serious about getting the procedure. I contacted several doctors but only about half I contacted wanted to work with me (I was 26 years old at the time). I called and emailed Dr. Hakan’s office and was impressed with their response and quickly booked. BEFORE YOU BOOK – Some advice! While this is not a traumatic procedure per say, it is difficult to come to terms with. Before you decide to do surgery I would highly recommend doing a number of things just to feel better about yourself! Start going to the gym, get a new wardrobe, get a new more flattering hair cut and consider changing your hair color if that will help give the illusion of more hair. Are you happy!? Do things for yourself! Anyways, I had done all those things and felt great about myself, but wanted to still go ahead and get this done. Do all these things though! It helps with the “ugly duckling” phase. ☺ Anyways, as far as the experience with Dr. Hakan, remember you are going to Turkey to do this for less that the states. I had them book me their normal room accommodation and pick me up. One of Hakan’s assistants picked me up in her own personal car. Don’t expect anything fancy! The hotel was very basic and clean. Your going to notice right away that Ankara has a lot of medical tourists from all over the region. You will see lots of people in the hotel wrapped up! I was sitting in the lobby and someone started talking to me who just had their transplant done. They were from Syria had gotten a procedure by someone else that was recommended by the forum. Anyways, that was super cool, this is a global community! I had Dr. Hakan look at my scalp at an office in a big hospital. My procedure happened in his own clinic that was in a residential style building (all very clean). The procedure took a full day. First I got my head shaved and pictures taken! Say good bye to your vanity! The first phase I had local anesthesia (I tried to be tough and said I was ok with just a little, but get a lot!). All the grafts were taken by a nurse. All were very friendly and I was totally at ease. The assistant who picked me up from the airport was with me the whole time to translate if necessary. I had a Turkish lunch and some time to rest and then it was time to get the grafts in place. Dr. Hakan was there for the whole time during this period and he placed the hairline with single grafts. After he placed the front hairline a nurse assisted him to place all the rest of the hairs after the hairline. MY ONLY CRITISISM – The left side of my head is the side the nurse completed and this side doesn’t appear to have as many grafts. If I did this again I would talk to Hakan about this or see if he could do the whole side. Anyways, I had 2870 grafts, 650 single, 1570 double, and 650 triple. Most of this work went into the front with a few hundred in the crown (I knew this was kind of a black hole and I still have a little bit of a bald spot here). I went back to the hotel and crashed. I ordered a grilled cheese from room service and just hung out there. The next day I felt good enough to put on a cap and walk over to the Ankara aquarium (biggest aquarium in Europe, super cool!). The next day I went in for my washing. I got some free findecide, some shampoo and lotion or whatever (kinda forget). ANYWAYS – TIME TO PAY. I planned on paying with two separate credit cards. I called and confirmed I was traveling, yadda yadda. The credit card terminal would not work!!! It was so stressful, I thought they thought I was scamming them. They insisted I go to a bank and withdraw the cash which is impossible… Anyways, eventually we got it sorted by calling their credit card processor. I BARLEY made it to the airport in time to fly home. I took a week at home to rest and then went to Dubai the next weekend. My scabs had washed off and it looked awesome! I looked like I had a tight military cut. Shortly after…. It all falls out. Time to wait! I showed up to work 4 weeks after my procedure completely shaved! People totally noticed. Some people were polite and ignored it, but other guys pulled me aside to ask A MILLION questions (this may have been cultural though). I wish I would have just owned it that I did this. You’ve done the research, you are confidant that your going to get results. Just own it. I kind of denied it for a few weeks and then everyone knew eventually. Below are pictures of my progress over 1.5 years. I feel like I am just now starting to see the full results (longer than the 1 year I had ambitiously hoped). Anyways, you’ll see that after month fifteen I started playing with my hair color. I think that helped me a lot and my hair looks denser. The hair transplant was so long ago from today that you kind of loose hope but now I am really surprised and happy how well its looking. The only concern I have is that the side the nurse implanted has been slow to come in. I’m hoping that that will fill in more with time. Feel free to ask me any questions. Sorry the photos are kinda goofy as I didn’t stage any photos just for this. If you would like me to take some other pics of my results I don't mind. Anyways, I hope this can help! This wasn't cheap for me and it was tough for my self esteem during the "ugly duckling phase" but today I think it was totally worth it. Thanks guys!

We did first operation. 1 year after the first operation, we transplanted additional 2742 grafts in the second operation. Here is the dates of the operations: FIRST OPERATION: 4562 ( hair) + 1080 ( beard) = 5642 January 8th, 2012 2248 Grafts January 9th, 2012 2314 Grafts Januaey 10th, 2012 1080 Grafts ( from beard) SECOND OPERATION: 1992 (hair ) + 750 (beard) = 2742 February 6th, 2013 1992 Grafts February 7th, 2013 750 Grafts ( from beard) 4562 + 1992 = 6554 hair grafts 1080 + 750 = 1830 beard grafts TOTAL = 8384 Grafts ( hair + beard) For this operation, Choi Hair Transplanter / implanter Pen technique was used. With this technique, we use small pen needles which has 6-7-8mm diameters for planting grafts into recipient sites. After the surgery, patient's recovery is faster and the result is natural. To extract the grafts from the donor area, we use small blade called micro-motor, it has 0.7-0.8 mm diameter and does not harm donor hairs' roots.
