So I got an online consult from Dr. Koray Erdogan at ASMED. He has gotten some good reviews on here. However, many people have noticed that the number of transplants he recommends is higher than other physicians. I'm sitting somewhere between a NW2 and NW3 with some diffuse thinning on the top of my head. Shockloss is a concern of mine. Dr. Koray Erdogan recommended I get 5000 grafts. This seems like a lot to me. I'm including the exact pictures I sent the doctor (except with my identity hidden.) to get your opinions. I used some powerful light on these photos. In dimmer light my hairline actually looks pretty good. Also, in the consult form I said multiple times that I previously had sexual sides from Finasteride and yet in the consult he recommended I use it. I sent a second email with the both these concerns and in response they stood by their initial consult. Let me know if you guys think that 5000 grafts is reasonable with my case. Thanks!
Hello Everyone 35 Year old Male from India with 3V diffuse thinning. Had my 2nd hair transplant FUE 3800 Grafts dec 2014 at ASMED, Istanbul with Dr. Koray Erdogan Since I was not Happy with my 1st HT results from other clinic so I have repeated the procedure to same areas to add density. For Brief details about my 1st Hair Transplant at other clinic in India in dec 2012 you can check my Thread link below:- http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/169007-fue-hair-transplant-dr-prabdeep-sohi-reviva-clinic-chandigarh-india.html 2nd HT Journey:- I had an online consultation first and had an opportunity to visit Istanbul so I also had a personal Consultation as well in june 2014 with Dr Koray (Also Dr Hakan in Antalya) The Asmed clinic (mini hospital) looked very posh and busy and Dr Koray was very helpful in clearing my doubts and queries on my personal consultation. Sevinj my Interpreter was very helpful throughout in my email / personal consultation and Final surgery. Dr Koray speaks English very well. But for communication with the Staff & technicians Sevinj was always around. After returning back to India I booked for my HT for 29th December 2014 with deposit of 1000 Euro. Reached Istanbul on 26th dec Morning. Stayed in Radisson blu which was booked by the clinic , being close to the clinic they have a contract with them to provide discounted price for first 5 days to their patients (80 Euro/night including breakfast), cheaper than booking online yourself as It was 120 Euro/night including breakfast). Same day afternoon went to the clinic for shaving my hair, deciding/marking hairline, photo session and blood samples for tests & PRP Treatment. Dr koray starts surgery early morning and prefer this pre-op rituals 1 day before. Since the clinic is closed on weekends so I had to go through this process on 26th dec i.e Friday and wait in the hotel for my surgery on Monday (So Avoid Mondays if you don’t want to reach there early:)) Since I was shaved and marked on Friday I used a Cap till Monday to roam around beautiful Istanbul. The Clinic also provides you with their custom Hat, in my case I already brought many with me, since I knew the drill being my 2nd HT. Day 1:- I was picked by Clinic transfer service 7:00 AM (Transfer charges 30 Euro) along with 3 other Patients staying in the same hotel. So we were total 4 person having HT in the same day. I had a concern about it throughout that how this was to be pulled off having 4 surgeries with average 2000 grafts in a day/person coming to 8000 grafts in a day/person. Reached the clinic, greeted well and immediately changed clothes and checked for re-shave any hairs slightly grown in 2 days. Test reports were checked and approved for further movement to the surgery room downstairs where i got 1 locker to keep my clothes and I also chose 1 movie to be seen at the time of surgery. I realized that the clinic has 4 surgery rooms downstairs, so 4 patients per day is routine. They have enough techs n staff for this. First Day was dedicated to hairline area and Crown for Second day. I must confess here that after slight concern realizing 4 patients per day and how it will be pulled off with good quality work, I got introduced to another concern when the surgery was started with graft extraction by techs and without presence of Dr Koray. Then I realized that the extractions are done by the techs and not by Dr Koray. Dr Koray only performs Incisions. Techs do extractions & implantation. Dr Koray did come in between to extract 80 odd grafts and went, same with other 3 patients. I think this was primarily for 2 reasons, (1) To keep himself in the practice of extraction, and/or (2) To make patients feel comfortable showing his presence. I am sure that the clinic hires highly skilled Techs only and as long as my HT turns out satisfactory I have no issues with this, but since I have gone through one average HT in the past so this will keep me slightly concerned until 8-12 months post op. After 4 hours of extraction, we had a lunch break and post lunch we started with the incision part with Dr Koray and final implantation with the techs. We finished Day 1 around 4 p.m and all 4 were transferred to the Hotel. We were provided with Pain killer medicine (which I did not require) & Neck support pillows to avoid direct contact of the head to anything which disturbs/dislocate the new grafts while sleeping. It was still not comfortable though, so I preferring sleeping without it with caution. Day 2:- This day was dedicated for crown area and Side Bridge joining crown to hairline. The process was same as Day 1, only addition was that PRP was injected this day. We ended the day around 5 a.m and after photo session we went to the hotel. Day:-3 We were again picked up in the morning for head wash and were provided with the shampoo & cream KIT for head wash for next 10 days. Also with the documents showing the hair/graft bifurcation, picture of it uploaded in this thread. I pre-planned my stay for 10 days considering face swelling will take 7 days to subsidize, so I stayed back in the hotel. Had another head wash at the clinic on 7th day post HT and then return back to my country. I have been advised to start finasteride if not regularly than atleast 12 months post op. I had side effects 3 years back when I used Finpecia (product of Cipla) for 3-4 months and had to quit, the side effect took 8 months to go out of my system. So I am not sure about it. Though I have started taking 1mg per day now, will see how much time I will continue before I give up. Future expectation:- Since i have used most of my donor hairs, so i am mentally prepared for having another 5000 grafts HT in future.May be 1000 scalp + 4000 body grafts. I have thick body hairs so am i positive for covering full area of my head with it. When i may opt for my 3rd HT shall depend on whether i continue with finasteride or not after 1 year and also till how much time i feel comfortable using Toppik (if i have to use it ) Question:- I am having hard time finding an online site which deliver Propecia to India as most of them says worldwide delivery but at the payment process do not show India as an option. If anyone has a clue than let me know.I bought 1 month pack of propecia from the Asmed clinic, now i have locally bought Finpecia (product of Cipla) and using it. Thanks.
Hello everybody, Me: I'm a 36 y.o. with Ludwig pattern loss and have been on Finasteride (1 mg) for more than 7 years. I've used minoxidil for about almost the same time (but with interruptions). A few months back, I decided to go with Dr. Koray Erdogan for a FUE procedure. My hair has been falling since long time but lately I've noticed it has accelerated. For me it was time to take the plunge whith the objective of prolonging the appearance of my hair. It took some research through the forum and after seeing his work and others I took the plunge. First contact I sent the photos (sorry for the low quality) and got an explanation of how everything worked, an estimation of the grafts I would need and pre and post-op instructions. From the start I felt very pleased with the information, the treatment and the speed of response. The doctor's representative is very professional and makes you feel at ease from the start. I booked for a two day procedure (max is 2000 grafts/day) for July. Consultation Upon arrival I went for a graft count, photos, shave and a consultation. I was amazed with the installations, basically you don't worry about anything, you just go in for your procedure and they take care of everything. When I met Dr. Koray we discussed what where my expectations as, as a Ludwig pattern, the effect is not as imediate as if I were a Northwood pattern. Dr. Koray explained my type of hairs and the state of my thining top to check what I could expect from surgery. My donnor area is a normal one so I could go for a good amount of graft transplantation. Due to the nature of my thinning hair. the results, combined with shockloss wouldn't be as imediate as in other procedures. Also, has he would be implanting in the middle of existing hair, it is more complicated. After hearing all the explanations the grafts number was set to 3800 grats. Procedure days The procedure started early in the morning, Dr. Koray's team has two technicians, a anesthisiologist, himself and your representative who accompanies you all the time. Once again, excellent people, very professional and careful with their work. First day they worked on the left donnor side and second day, roght donnor side. It took from 7ish untill 3h both days (more or less) with meals, 2 breaks and a massage to your neck and feet - very nice and needed touch because you can't move basically. Dr. Koray came in to check on you during the havesting, to puncture the receiving area for the new grafts and to check on you. The grafts broken down: Total: 3815 1's - 731 2's - 2007 3's - 923 4's - 147 5's - 7 I really felt supported by everybody all the time, from the doctor to the anestesiologist, to the team and representative. You feel your money is well spent. After surgery did not have any pain on both days and ASMED even gives you a hat to cover yourself (I saw more patients than I would have expected on the street and airport) and protect your HT from the sun. The first wash was simple and they explained thouroughly how to do it at home.
Dear Forum Members, As many of you know, we gather as much information as possible about a physician, their staff, technique and track record before they are even considered for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. Part of our review process involves getting input from patients and the members of this forum community. To learn more about this review process, click here. We would appreciate your input regarding the potential recommendation of Dr. Koray Erdogan of Istanbul, Turkey. At this time, Dr. Erdogan is only being considered for recommendation, not the Coalition. To see our standards for recommendation, click here. However, given his dedication to ultra refined follicular unit extraction, in time, I believe we should consider him for the Coalition. Over the last few months, Dr. Koray Erdogan has garnered a lot of popularity and visibility on this forum thanks to several of his patients sharing their experiences and results. After several exchanges with Dr. Erdogan and viewing many examples of his work, I can see why he's become so popular. Dr. Koray Erdogan has been performing hair transplant surgery since 2000 and has been performing follicular unit extraction (FUE) exclusively at his clinic since 2007. He has the skill, experience and staff to perform over 2400 follicular units in a single day and operates on only one or two patients daily depending on the size of the session. Dr. Erdogan has the ability to dense up to 55 FU/cm2 when appropriate for the patient although, this kind of density is rarely required. Dr. Erdogan uses a manual punch crafted by Ellis Instruments ranging from .6mm to .9mm in size when appropriate for the patient. This enables him to reduce scarring and trauma to th scalp. Dr. Erdogan feels that advantages of manual extraciton include undetectable scarring, high yield and low transection. Dr. Koray Erdogan carefully creates all recipient incisions by hand using tiny blades as small as .7mm. Each incision is 0.1mm larger than the size of each graft which he feels enables him to adapt his plan according to graft quality. Dr. Erdogan temporarily stores the harvested follicular units in a hypotonic solution for no more than 3 hours. Each graft is then carefully inserted into the recipient area by his skilled technicians under Dr. Erdogan's direct supervision. Dr. Erdogan is a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), the Turkish Medical Association, the Italian Society for Hair Restoraiton (ISHR) and the European Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ESHRS). Given Dr. Koray Erdogan's experience and commitment to high quality follicular unit hair transplantation via FUE, I believe that he should be considered for recommendation.
