  1. Hi Everyone, This patient visited to book for a procedure, but he already had one with us before. 2500 grafts into the hairline and the front portion of the scalp. We will be doing his crown next. Enjoy the presentation. Tara Feller and Bloxham Hair Transplants Great Neck, NY 516-487-3797
  2. Well I suppose I can be thankful that I’m not off to New York this week with the threat of a hurricane. I hope this doesn't affect too many fellow transplant patients. Having never flown to America before I was rather nervous beforehand just about getting there. I arrived on the Sunday after a rather boring flight. A nice quiet Sunday evening in my hotel, although I must admit I didn't get a great deal of sleep that night. I was more worried about getting to Dr Fellers office on time and that everything will be ok. I arrived in plenty of time and decided to go for a walk for a while. I returned just before 7:45 and ventured into the building. I was greeted by the very approachable and friendly Dr Feller. We sat in his room for a few minutes, where we discussed my hopes and what he felt he could do for me. After a few lines drawn on my head. I asked Dr Feller if the new hair line he had drawn on my head was not too high. I said to him that my original hairline was lower than he had drawn. He reassured me that everything would look fine and any existing hair that is lower than the new hairline would look very natural. Next stop was the dentist chair and the strong smelling plastic covering of the chair. A quick shave of the front and back of my head and we were ready to go. Dr Feller started the dreaded injections in the back of my head. The first few injections were a little disturbing but no big deal. After my head began to react the rest of the injections were a piece of cake. I didn't really ask too many questions on what was going on at the time as I didn't really want to know. I was then stapled up and it was time to work front of my hair. Another round of injections and a little rest time and it was time for Dr Feller to start the incisions into the area for the new hair. This seemed to take quite a while. Once this was all done it was time for his assistants to work their wonder adding the new grafts. I did manage to doze off a couple of times, through the times when the water and saline was running down my face. I was in the chair nearly four hours although it didn't seem that long. I decided to go to the rest room and have a quick pit stop and check on my new look. Although it didn't look very sexy and was really pleased with the area that had been done. Dr Feller had filled the first inch of the front and gone further up in the temple area. I had a quick chat with one if his assistants who gave me a list of do's and don’ts and what to expect the next few days. A nice bit of lunch and then a quick chat with Dr Feller in his office. He gave me my lovely baseball and a few pills. Not much to say about the next couple of days where I spent most of my time tucked away in my hotel room. The odd time venturing pout to get a bit of food. Another long journey home. I was so glad to be home in familiar surroundings. It's now been a week and I will be taking easy for another few days. Hopefully start work again next Monday. I need to being self employed. Not too much discomfort so far, although it's quite hard to sleep having staples in the back and sides of my head. I think that's about it for now. I will post pictures of before and after in a few minutes. Finally, i would like to say a big thanks to Spex. For making me feel at ease when I spoke to him on the phone. For the countless questions he answered over the last three months on email. A big thank you to Dr Feller and his team. A great bunch of people who make you feel very welcome.
  3. Well here goes...! After years of deliberating and researching the best in the business following two seriously substandard HT's courtesy of the Hospital Group a number of years ago, I am finally booked for 1800 grafts with Dr Feller next week. I am hoping to cover the pluggy look of the two previous HT's and hopefully fill in a little around the temple areas. Here are some photos. Photo #1 is pretty much how my hair looks normally and I can just about hide the old HT's and my receding hairline but it's getting harder to do. Nervous but excited!
  4. Greetings, I am 11 days post of of my 2nd HT with Dr Feller. Just to fill you guy sin I had 2250 strip last august which did a great job in hiding any kind of hair loss to where I was before. I was so pleased with DR Feller did with me last time round I had no hesitation in going back in again to see what he can pull of this time round. So my main goal was to drop the hairline by a good 1-1.25 cms and in particular address the centre of the hairline which had a lot of loss. During the consult per op Dr Feller said he really was worried about my mid scalp forelock area, which i really wasn't to bothered about until he dug up the before pics from last August and showed me just hwo much density had been lost, I was getting away with it but in a centre parting it looked less dense and more sparse than the rest of the hair, so slightly reluctantly i did go with his advixce and agreed to addressing the mid scalp. I know his judgement and graft placement from last time round was absolutley spot on so I knew I his advice and concern was for the best. As always nothing but the best time with the Doc and his lovely staff. Ive got some pics here now 10 days post op I will get the preop and im post op soon. Now I need to find a wig.......
  5. Thought I'd show some pics of what a quality scar should look like and what expectations you can look for ( obviosuly individual physiology plays a great part in this) this is based on you having good healing qualities to trauma. This is a progression of scar healng from 10 days at staple removal - note how pink and raw it looks and indeed feels to the touch. then at 28 days still vsisbily quite red and pink and quite noticeable in terms of colour, but look at 4 months the scar is much much lighter in color and is healing execptionally well, you can see the close up picture of the hairs growing through a good tricho closure. 1 year down the line this will have improved even more. A few notes this was approx 1900- 2000 strip procedure with Dr Feller after a first Ht of 2250. I felt this was even better healing than the first not to say that the fisrt one as bad, just the nature of the fact that it was slighlty less grafts a good response considering the trauma and tension that was taken for round one. I dont even feel or notice the scar at all in fact the laxity of the whole domor area is just as it was prior to any Ht before. Which is probably why I cant feel any hiint of surgery or a scar. This again reaffirms the tremendoud resulst and work Dr Feller does every day Hope this helps settle a few nerves and shows what you can expect from a quality surgeon. best Uk R
  6. Hi everyone, First off just wanted to say a big thank you to all who contribute to this site. I, like most people from the U.K. would never have considered going abroad to get this procedure done if I hadn't had access to all this information to show the different standards that are out there. After months, well more like weeks of deliberating between two or three top doctors I decided to go to New York to have my procedure done with Dr Feller. He was the stand out choice in the end for me mainly due to the sheer number of patients posting positive results on forums like this. Also Spex, who is Dr Feller's U.K. consultant for those of you who don't already know is by far one of the most helpful guys I've ever dealt with. Seriously if I had any questions he would get back to me straight away, sometimes within minutes. He's a good guy to have in your corner leading up to surgery. I flew in to New York on the Friday so I could stay a few nights in Manhattan as I've never been and have always wanted to go. I've got to say it lived up to it's reputation it is an absolutely awesome city. Just a shame I wasn't able to enjoy a few social beers whilst over there as the night life looked incredible and I'm pretty sure the accent would have worked in my favour and all. Actually saying that I probably saved a shed load of money as it is pretty pricey. Anyway I booked myself into the Inn at Great Neck on the Sunday night which is one of the hotels you're recommended to stay in the night before as it is in walking distance to the Surgery. For anyone who is considering staying there the rooms were pretty nice and fairly big and the staff were friendly enough. I met Dr Feller the next morning and we discussed my goals and he drew on the agreed hairline. Next were the injections which were honestly fine, there is a slight nip but nothing major. The donor area was then cut and stapled back together. Again nothing to worry about here you can't feel a thing and you have the doc and his brilliant team of techs reassuring you through out the whole procedure. Then came the placing of the grafts. Singles were placed in the front part of my hairline which had been designed jagged so as to look natural once grown in. Then a combination of twos and threes were placed in the mid scalp to add density. I have to say all the reviews you read about Dr Feller being a real 'straight shooter' and easy to talk to are absolutely true but to be honest the thing that reassured me the most was his confidence. You can just tell he's performed this procedure a million times before and when he tells you there is nothing to worry about you believe him. I honestly wasn't nervous once through out the whole procedure. In fact I couldn't believe how easy the whole thing was. The hardest thing by far is sitting still in a chair for 6 hours although you do get regular breaks and at lunch you get an absolutely awesome sandwich from a fantastic deli. In fact that was definitely the highlight of my day, haha. I'm actually 9 days post op now and everything seems to be going to plan so far. I'll upload the pre and post surgery pics below for all to admire Dr Feller's handy work. If you've got any questions I'll be happy to answer them.
  7. How time flies? First of update now just shy of 18 months which is considered the final result one can expect from growth etc. reminder : 2250 strip back in August 2010 here are the before pics and im post op So here is the final result at 18 months: I am totally pleased with the result it really has matured from say 10/11 months right through to know, some areas actually grew more, but the thickness and weight of the hair is now pretty much all there. We are all different but in my experience for the first HT I had quick growth through from 4-6 months and then a final kick in from 12-18 subtle but to the individial big as you will only know your self. So Im off to see Dr Feller in Dec for HT #2 I have to say I can live with what Dr Feller did here, his placement of the grafts from the first HT was spot on, it just made wearing my hair style easy and it made me look great. However I would love to make it even better and have zero thoughts of my hair going through my head, a windy day still makes the barnet a little uneasy! However we are only young once, call it hair greed or what ever all I know is how successfull we are is directly related to how good we feel about ourselves, The better you feel the more risks you take and the more opportunity comes your way, wheather that means having the confience to stand in from of 100o people giving a keynote lecture or asking out foxy lady across the bar the effect is the same, so if tweaking your hailine and adding some more depth to your shed does that for you then why not? Hence Im off to See Dr Feller for a 2nd HT, this time I would like to fill in the temples and create a strong hairline at the front. I have actually thickended up the crown since starting on finpecia - Ideally like to address there as well if we can. I have no hesitation on seeing Dr Feller for the 2nd HT, I made the decision after the great result I had first time round He's just a great surgeon knows exactly what to do with the grafts to give you the best result. Watch this space I'll keep you posted on how the 2nd HT pans out 2nd HT coming 19th Dec UK R
  8. Hello everyone, I have felt compelled to share my own Hair transplant story: I hadn't posted before as I was really waiting to see some positive results, and I immersed myself in a big project to keep a low profile at work under a cap low and behold I just stopped and looked to see where I had come and I was very happy...... After going through the emotional roller coaster of the decision. I had been losing my hair since around 24 years old albeit very gradually, I seem to be a good responder to minoxidil and it has definitely saved my hair for the past 10 years, however around August 2008 I noticed a significant shed that never came back! and a distinct loss from my hairline mainly from the temples and now also form the front I then frantically decided on the very serious idea of a hair transplant. I never ever really thought I would ever get one as I heard far too many horror stories, and the topic just seems clouded with mystery, thoughts that went constantly round my head were: does it really work, only 50% of transplants are success full, What about complications, could I make it worse?? So many crazy thoughts and I guess anyone going through the same decision knows what I'm talking about. So for the best part of 18 months from around August 2009 I went on a mission to find the truth about real hair transplants and of course a clinic and surgeon that I would let cut my head open only to make it better not worse. BIG decision! I went on the various forums and started getting a feel for who I thought would be the best clinics for the Job. In this time I was on minoxidil 5% and was responding very well. I also decided to start finasteride, and thankfully this made a difference as well, I noticed within about 2-3 months that no more miniature hairs were falling out and also I was not leaving any hair on the the pillow. So I had good stabilisation of my current hair situation and also I weighed in the fact that I was not in my 30's and it seemed an ok time to think about a HT, I thought getting a HT in my 20's was a little to early. So feel I factored a lot of the elements together and felt that a HT at age 32 was appropriate. For me money was not the issue if I'm going to get it done it has to be done right and I wasn't going to make my decision over a couple of grand if it meant compromising the result. I knew I had to go abroad as the UK seemed devoid of consistent and open results I wanted to be 100% sure and make my own informed choice, so I managed also to see 3 UK patients through Spex and that helped massively in making the choice. Well to let you know I basically short listed about 3 clinics and eventually went for Feller medical in August 2010 Its now almost exactly 6 months since my hair transplant and I was stunned at how far I had come in just those short months, so much so that I think it is important for me to share just how much better I feel and how my hair is constantly changing for the better. I ended up having a strip surgery done by Doctor Feller for 2250 grafts. It was a great experience I did brick it several times before hand about the decision to go ahead mainly about having a scar at the back of my head but I stayed strong and went for it. Here are some before pics, immediate post op.and at 6 months As you can see Flickr: Ukresponder's Photostream I had major loss in both temples and some from the front hairline. I was losing it from the crown, but to be honest a very small amount of nanogen fibres plus thickening shampoo and dermatch sorted it out well and also the finasteride was slowly but surely closing the gap, I thought I got give it a good 3+ years so not worried about that just yet As we all know its the hairline that frames your face and that make you look older than you are. My main goal was to sort out those temples and not have to rely on an 'engineered comb over' as I liked to call it If you look at the 6 months post pics you cn see some really good growth, every month I can style and that section of hair so much more note the pic is with NO concealer, NO hair thickening shampoo just natural look at how the sides have filled up, I mean I used to waste half the nanogen and dermatch on those temple receeds and now for the first time in over 5 years I don't even think about it! I hear at 6 months its only around 40-50% growth, I'm already happy, the left side still lagging but still better than before. I can actually feel the 'weight' of he hair and style it even at this early stage. I have to say the experience was fantastic. Dr Feller is so easy going relaxed and made the whole transplant pain free and as enjoyable as it can be. Sorry for the long post but hopefully any one thinking of getting a transplant and is still not sure then I hope this gives you motivation and confidence that you can get great results from the right advice research and doctor and I just want to help out as I got so much form the forums before I went ahead with my own HT UKResponder
  9. I have had thinning hair since I was 17. Mom,dad, bro, sis all have thick hair - my mom's sis has thin hair. I didnt think it would get to a point were I'd be worrying about how can I live 30 more years before I go totally bald. I started using Dermmatch 3 years back. It was a life saver and still is - however I have lost so much hair in the last one year alone, even dermmatch is not helping and now I am depressed Ive not visited a Dr to check on my condition and am just embarrassed - the thought of going out without a concealer is killing me. Been reading forums about what people do and see that HT is quite common among men...or maybe its that women simply dont write about it..we just bury it and deal with it quietly. After much researching, emailing 2 HT Dr's, I decided to visit Dr. Feller. I really want to speak a Dr who is compassionate and listens...from all that I have read I think he has both...It will be most painful 60 mile drive from my home- but I think my options are limited. I'm yet to call for an appointment. I have a few questions about the first consultation and HT procedure itself...if anyone can help answer them it would reassure me... 1) I'm assuming I have to wash my hair (with no dermmatch) and go? 2) What exactly does Dr. Feller do during the consult? Will be do scalp biospy, run test etc and diagnose my condition first or straight away discuss HT? (It may sound weird, but I really would like to know what my condition is) 3) I have hair loss on the front/top/vertex...the other areas are in tact but overall not super thick but the scalp doesn't show. I've read that women with hair like this may not be good candidates...true? what are the chances Dr. Feller wont do HT for me? 4)I saw bef and aft photos of a women who did HT and she had HT done in the front - the photo showed big portion of the front shaven and it took almost 8 months for hair to grow. I thought only the donor area had to be shaved? 5) If in fact the transplant area has to be shaved how do people go out with a big area with no hair right after the HT. I cannot imagine walking around like that If I decide to do HT I wouldn't want any one at work to know about it...I can probably take 2 weeks off but that wouldn't help a big hairless area on my head. 6) Its not that I have the money sitting in the bank to pay for it and HT is expensive - I would've never considered HT if it wasn't this bad (will try to post some photos later on). Now I look at it as though I need clothes to cover my body and need hair to cover my head...it is a necessity..I may have to live on a tight budget for long but I think it would regain my confidence The only best part of all this is my boyfriend of 3 yrs - he is extremely supportive and understands how I feel. I've only spoken about my hair problem to my mom and sis - no one else knows...demmatch magic... I'm here for support and any suggestions...thanks for listening... Good luck to all of you in your journey of restoring your hair...god bless.
