  1. #BeforeAndAfterMondays While all patients emphasize the importance of a natural-appearing hair transplant, this 33-year-old male was particularly adamant. This young man underwent a follicular unit transplantation FUT session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in which a total of 2644 grafts were placed. The patient’s hair follicles were incubated in platelet rich plasma PRP throughout the duration of the procedure. This, combined with an ATP-containing storage solution has been shown to enhance survival of transplanted hairs. As with all of Dr. Wesley’s patients, he was NOT required to cut his hair for the procedure. As a result, this patient was able to return comfortably to work and social activities within approximately 7-10 days of his procedure. The patient returned 12 months after his procedure and images of the patient can be seen below.
  2. #BAM Better late than never #BeforeAndAfterMondays!! This patient underwent a follicular unit transplantation FUT session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in which a total of 2645 grafts were placed. The pattern design was conservative to account for the patient’s relatively young age.
  3. #BeforeAndAfterMondays This patient underwent a follicular unit transplantation (FUT) session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in which a total of 1723 grafts were placed Her hair follicles were incubated in autologous (her own) platelet rich plasma (PRP) throughout the duration of the procedure. This, combined with an ATP-containing storage solution has been shown to enhance survival of transplanted hairs. As with all of Dr. Wesley’s patients, she was NOT required to shave her hair for the procedure. As a result, this patient was able to return comfortably to work and social activities within approximately 7-10 days of his procedure. The patient returned one year after her procedure and images of the patient can be seen below. This link illustrates the timing of hair growth after surgery. Similar patient hair transformations with Dr. Wesley and his team may also be viewed.
  4. #BeforeAndAfterMondays This young man underwent a FUT session with Dr. Carlos K. Wesley in which a total of 2278 grafts were placed. 5. Hello all I’m Eden. I’m sorry if lots of people ask this question but I don’t know where to look for this answer. I would like to do the best hair transplant I can get, I don’t want to take any risks and do it again after a year. I’m 30 Y/O from the UK money or traveling isn’t a problem for me. Im desperate to find the best artist in the world who would make my surgery. I will really appreciate if people with experience here would give me a tip who is really the most professional from all. Like I said, traveling is really not a problem for me. Sorry if a lot of people post the same question. I’m a healthy non smoking/drink person. Daily exercise, perfect blood count. I would post pictures of my scalp after shower. I take propcia 1mg for over 12 years now Multivitamin, drink 3 liters of water daily. I don’t eat any junk or friend food. I’m vegan already 4 years and never felt better. Sleep 8 hours every night. Soon I’ll post some pics of my scalp for more help. BTW, I’m quite sure I’ll be needing at list 5000grafts. Thank you again, your help is much appreciated! Hope to help others as well in the future and show you all my journey. Eden

  7. This 42-year-old gentleman had a hair loss pattern similar to a class 4v on the Hamilton Norwood hair loss scale. This patient also had a hair transplant procedure over 10 years ago. His goal was to rebuild his hairline and add density to the frontal 1/2 of his scalp. Taking his age and hair loss into consideration we came upon an agreement for what would suite his expectations and reconstruct a hairline that would be suitable for him as he continued to age. A total of 2,590 grafts were used. I used a significant amount of single hair follicular units which allowed me to create a very natural hairline. This action will allow him to comb his hair without anyone detecting that he has had anything done. These are his results 18 months post-op and he will continue to get more improvement over the next 6 months. The patient is extremely happy with his results.

  9. Hi all, I've been lurking on this forum for the past couple of months. Tremendous resource and I know so much more than I did just a few months ago. I have decided that I am going to get a hair transplant to restore density to my hairline and fill in some of my temple angles - although I would be interested if folks here think I am doing this at too young of an age/stage of hair loss... First the basics: Age: 29 Location: Virginia, USA (East Coast / Mid-Atlantic area) Age I started losing hair: Probably really started to notice it around 20 years old. Past Surgeries: None Treatment: Taken Propecia for the past 3 years. It definitely helped. I think it probably added some density in the crown and mid-scalp areas but the temples are still continuing to recede, albeit at a slower pace compared to when I wasn't on propecia. I've used Rogaine on and off but I never felt like it was doing much and it would sometimes give me an itchy scalp so I haven't used it in about 12 months. Ideally I'd like to get off Propecia because I don't like messing with my body's hormones like that and I've felt like the libido side effects have hit me at times (but never bad enough to stop taking the meds). But I am pretty sure that if I were ever to do that then my hair loss would come back with a vengeance...so I'm sort of on the fence about future propecia usage. Most likely procedure: I'm leaning towards FUT Strip at this point Based on a lot of research and consultations I've narrowed my list down to four top doctors (all prices have been converted to $USD so these prices will fluctuate a little bit with exchange rates). Also each doctor's treatment plan / pricing structure is slightly different but I assumed 2,500 grafts so that I could do an apples to apples comparison: All Prices converted to $USD: Dr. Pathomvanich in Thailand - $2.66 per graft for a total cost of $6,700 Drs. Hasson & Wong in Vancouver - $3.91 per graft. Total cost of $9,500 (this price factors in a $800 travel credit) Dr Rahal in Canada - $3.88 per graft. Total cost of $9,700 (this price factors in a $1,000 travel credit and $1,500 in taxes) Dr Gabel in Portland, OR USA - $4 per graft + $500 setup fee = total cost of $10,500 I'm basically looking to balance price with skill/quality. As far as I can tell all of these doctors are very skilled and widely respected. Dr Path is significantly cheaper than the other three (and I go to vacation in Thailand once a year so I was thinking I could kill two birds with one stone and do the surgery while I'm there anyways.) That being said, if the consensus is that one of the other three doctors is far and away a much better surgeon then perhaps I'd reconsider and spend the extra money... I'm leaning towards Dr Path and just scheduled a surgery date for mid Feb'17 (I still have ~10 days to cancel without any penalty though). The price is right and he seems to be quite well respected but I have some concerns: 1. It sounds like his nurses do all of the graft placement - he only handles the strip removal and lateral slit incisions. I would prefer that my doctor is involved in every step of the process (even though I understand it would be impossible for him to plant every single graft) 2. I came across this very negative HT experience that someone had: http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/175559-dr-path-poor-results-stay-away-him-3.html 3. In that same thread there are a number of people chiming in saying that Dr Path's results have gone downhill in the past year or two. 4. On the other hand, I have gone through countless threads posted by both patients and by Dr Path himself and the results seem good so I may be allowing a few negative experience to stress me out too much 5. Dr Path received very strong endorsements from Dr Wong (2006) and Dr Parsley (2002) I'd love to get some feedback on (1) How appropriate a HT would be for me at this point in time (2) Which doctor to go with. Thanks everyone! Also, a quick guide to the photos: The ones with a buzzed head are from 2013 and 2014 - As you can see it looks like I'm destined to be a Norwood 6..but Propecia has been very helpful in halting and reversing some of this. Still, noticeable receding hairline and miniaturization of hairs in the front. The one taken outdoors in a grey t shirt was done with pretty wet hair to fully showcase my hair loss The ones outdoors/indoors in a brown jacket were taken at a BBQ so they are showing what the hair looks like in the wild when it is recently cut and styled (hair doesn't look nearly as bad in these angles). No concealers. The selfie style with a sweater on (taken while I'm seated) is probably the best representation of what my hair looks like these days when it is dry and styled normally (no concealers or anything else were used in this photo). The mid-scalp and crown are perfectly acceptable but the front third, hairline, and temples, are what bother me at this point. Lastly, the selfies with no shirt on are what the hair looks like when I comb the hair forward to illustrate the hair loss (I never style my hair like this though)

  11. This video depicts a 32-year-old woman with ambitious hair goals! She was always bothered by her high hairline and desired a marked lowering of her hairline. She underwent a 1912-graft follicular unit transplantation (FUT) procedure with Carlos K. Wesley, MD in NYC. She can be seen before as well as a few weeks and months after the procedure that was coupled with PRP treatment. All the while, his pre-existing hair is kept at its natural length.
  12. Patient is a 25 YO male experiencing MPHL affecting the frontal hair line. A conservative hairline was recreated utilizing 1498 FU grafts obtained from a conservative donor strip closed utilizing time-honored plastic surgery closure technique. Donor scar appearance is shown at the 14 month post op mark.
  13. There are so many hair loss myths. This forum is helpful in sifting through them to help get us closer to the facts. We've started a series of fun hair-related findings (and never been founds!) on Instagram and Twitter. Here's the first in the series. Can you guess which is true?
  14. A 40-year-old man had worn a hair piece for years. He became fed up with the routine and wanted to liberate himself from it. Using a combination of scalp follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and BEARD follicular unit extraction (FUE), Dr. Wesley was able to create a frontal hair pattern that mimicked a conservative version of the hair piece so that his transition to free himself from it was possible.
  15. I'm new to this forum so hello everybody! So, I'm a 41 yr old male and I have decided to finally bite the bullet and have a hair transplant. The thing is it seems to be a minefield out there, with so many conflicting stories and recommendations. I actually have no idea where to start so because a lot of you guys have been down this road before or still on it my questions are: Looking at my head, how many grafts do you think I might need? Which method would seem best for me? My budget is between €6000 - €8000. Who is the best surgeon with the best results considering my budget? Thank you in advance guys
  16. In response to those who have inquired, the Los Angeles consultations on Wednesday, March 30th, will be held in a downtown location for easier access. Please call our appointment secretary, Barbara, at 844-745-6362 to schedule or to confirm your appointment.
  17. Reportedly, genes contribute less than 14% of explained variation in androgenetic alopecia (AGA) [Richards, et. al]. Since dietary changes may be the simplest starting point to preventing hair loss, this investigative study might be of interest to many of you. Studying 354 men (ages 35-65), researchers found that frequent soy bean drink consumption proved slightly protective against moderate to severe male pattern baldness (MPB). Rich in isoflavones (leading to increased antioxidant levels) soy consumption demonstrated some protection against AGA.
  18. Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. will be holding in-person consultations in Los Angeles, CA on Wednesday, March 30th. He will be seeing patients only on this day. Patients interested in meeting with him in person may contact Barbara, the appointment secretary, at (844) 745-6362 or email info@drcarloswesley.com to arrange for a consultation with Dr. Wesley. Please note, the physician, not a "consultant" or a salesperson, will be meeting with you and answering your specific questions directly. As someone who takes pride in his work, Dr. Wesley looks forward to speaking with you and sharing information that was included in his recently-authored chapters on Hair Restoration published in the leading dermatology and plastic surgery textbooks, as well as the most respected physician reference site. In addition to discussing the nature of the procedure, he will determine whether or not you are a candidate and the surgical fee for the size of the session for which you are eligible.
  19. This 58 year old gentleman was a class 4v, but really heading towards a class 5. He had a very small hair transplant procedure that consisted of a few hundred grafts over 25 years ago. After establishing his medical history and understanding the progression of his hair loss, I diagnosed his condition as Androgenetic Alopecia (male pattern baldness), ruling out any other possible dermatological or medical conditions which can cause hair loss. This patient’s objective was simple; he did not want to have a large procedure but he wanted to achieve a very conservative hairline and look younger. That said, he also wanted a FUE procedure. As an executive in a business environment, he felt that his hair loss was starting to impact other’s perceptions of him and he was in an industry where perceptions were important. His hair was making him appear older than he actually was. His feelings were understandable and his goal achievable. That said, I explained that there was a possibility that he could lose more of his own hair. If this was to happen the transplanted hair would be able to stand alone and still look natural, but he would need another procedure to build it back up. To plan the surgery we need to take his age, present degree of hair loss and possible further hair loss into consideration. We agreed that it would be best to keep some temple recession so that his result would look good for him now, at 58, but also look good as he continues to age. We had planned to utilize 1,500 FUE grafts, arranging them into the frontal 1/3 but we actually ended up doing over 1,700 grafts. We transplanted a total of 1,749 grafts. The break down was as follows: 793 single hair, 689 two hair grafts and 267 three hair grafts. I used a significant amount of single hair follicular units on his part side/right side. The hair on this side needs to work hard and will shingle over the middle and left side of the scalp. This action will allow him to comb/style his hair without anyone detecting that he has had anything done. These are his results 10 months after his procedure. I think his results go a long way in showing the hair loss community that you can get great results with a small number of grafts when the procedure is done correctly. Remember that his goal was to look younger; this goal was definitely achieved. I understand that when he tilts his head all the way back, he looks very thin in the crown, but people do not walk around holding that position. You have to keep in mind that this was an FUE case, yet the yield this patient achieved was as good as if it had been a FUT procedure. Needless to say, the patient is extremely happy with his results and is considering another procedure to add some density.
