  1. Dear Forum Members, Dr. Richard Keller of Deerfield, Illinois has done an excellent job in presenting numerous examples of his results since he was approved for recommendation by this community over 5 years ago. In the last year in particular, Dr. Keller has impressed this community with photos demonstrating his even more improved and refined technique and results. Dr. Keller and his experienced staff have the ability to perform large, densely packed sessions of ultra refined follicular unit hair transplant surgery exceeding 3000 grafts when appropriate for the patient. He uses pre-cut blades as small as .7mm to create tiny recipient incisions and uses Dr. Harris' Powered SAFE scribe to harvest follicular units during his FUE (follicular unit extraction) procedure. To learn more about Dr. Keller's experience, technique and philosophy, visit his Hair Transplant Network recommendation profile. Given Dr. Keller's dedication to improving his technique and providing his patients with the very best results, I believe he should be considered for the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians. 2. This 27 year-old male with Norwood Type 2/3 hair loss was principally concerned about the bilateral temporal recession and we had extensive preoperative discussions about the progressive nature of hair loss. We harvested 1840 microscopic follicular units from a 34.5 cm x 1.2 cm donor ellipse. Because his frontal forelock was strong, we mainly transplanted the temporal hairline. Additionally, he wanted to improve the thin temporal tufts and we added grafts there as well as shown by the intraoperative photos. The typical before and after results were taken at 8 months and we're also demonstrating the improvement of the temporal tufts-with the gross photos of the left tuft and the cropped one on the right.

  5. Before Surgery: • This patient had a receding hairline and thinning at the mid-top scalp. • Says that even when he was a child, he had scarring from an event and had bald patches, as well as a straight hairline that gave him a naturally large forehead. • Patient wanted a modest FUE hair restoration using only a small number of grafts Surgery: • Goal: Create satisfying coverage and build a new hairline. • Using his uGraft tool, Dr. Umar harvested 1500 grafts from the head and nape of the neck for this FUE hair restoration. Surgery Results: • Results shown are from 1 year after the surgery • Patient reports a more pleasing hairline shape than what he would naturally have, and almost nonexistent scarring. 6. Hair transplants can be great, but it's still a "buyer beware" industry. I found this video by Coalition member Dr. Bill Rassman which includes tips every patient should hear before undergoing hair transplant surgery quite interesting and informative. Dr. Feinberg is the only doctor in New Jersey to have the Artas Robotic Hair Transplant Machine. He specializes in FUT and FUE hair restoration. This patient is a Norwood II and his hair transplantation was FUT.
  8. Dear forum members, As many of you know, we gather as much information as possible about a physician, their staff, technique and track record before they are even considered for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. Part of our review process involves getting input from patients and the members of this forum community. To learn more about this review process, click here. We’d like to gather your input and opinions regarding the potential recommendation of Dr. Patrick Mwamba of Brussels, Belgium on the Hair Transplant Network. At this time, Dr. Mwamba is only being considered for recommendation, not the Coalition. To see our standards for recommendation, click here. Dr. Mwamba has undergone extensive training and has worked with a number of reputable physicians including Coalition members Dr. Paul Rose and Dr. Jean Devroye. Dr. Mwamba has over 12 years of experience and performs exclusive hair transplant surgery at his clinic World Hair Transplant Center (myWHTC) in Brussels, Belgium. He also operates on only 1 or 2 patients per day depending on the size of the procedure. In order to best serve his patients, Dr. Mwamba believes he must learn and master all available hair restoration techniques and procedures. Dr. Mwamba performs high quality follicular unit hair transplantation and is one of the early developers of the follicular unit extraction (FUE) technique - also referred to as the follicular isolation technique (FIT). While Dr. Mwamba regularly offers both FUT and FUE/FIT at his clinic, he performs vastly more FUE procedures at his clinic today. He also offers and specializes in repair cases, eyebrow reconstruction and BHT (body hair transplantation - transferring body hair follicles to balding areas of the scalp) when appropriate for the patient. Dr. Mwamba and his dedicated staff have the ability to perform sessions exceeding 3000 grafts via FUT and 2500 grafts via FUE over a 2 to 3 day period when appropriate for the patient. For qualified candidates, Dr. Mwamba will use a combination of scalp and body hair in order to maximize the number of grafts available for transplanting. Recognizing that not everyone is suited for BHT, Dr. Mwamba uses very strict criteria in determining who is an appropriate candidate. Dr. Mwamba offers both traditional and "unshaven" FUE. While unshaven FUE is more time consuming and costs a little bit more, patients who undergo this technique can resume their daily activities without having to find ways to conceal their shaven donor area. Dr. Mwamba uses advanced, state of the art techniques in all surgical hair restoration procedure he performs. Dr. Mwamba uses a double layer trichophytic closure in order to minimize tension on the wound during FUT and creates tiny recipient incisions as small as .8mm. He also uses punches as small as .8mm to extract grafts during his FUE procedure. For those in the states interested in his services, Dr. Mwamba also has a consultation office in Johns Creek, Georgia, just North of Atlanta. Dr. Mwamba is also a member of the ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery), ESHRS (European Society of Hair Restoration Surgery). Given Dr. Mwamba's vast experience in performing quality FUT and FUE and providing only the best results, in my opinion, he should be considered for recommendation. In recent weeks, Dr. Mwamba has presented numerous examples of his recent FUE and FUT results on this forum. Dr. Mwamba's Recent Patient and Surgical photos can be found below: 1093 Grafts via FUE with Dr. Mwamba 2465 FIT-Shaven - 9 Month Results - Dr. Patrick Mwamba 3515 grafts by FIT/FUE with Dr Mwamba 4265 Grafts Plug Redistribution, FUE and Scar Repair with Dr. Mwamba 3781 Grafts via FUE with Dr. Mwamba (Including Description of Surgical Procedure) 303 Grafts Beard to Beard Transplant 1867 Grafts via FUE with Dr. Mwamba 2704 Grafts via FUT (Strip) with Dr. Mwamba 1813 Grafts Strip/FUE/BHT (Surgical) with Dr. Mwamba 2589 Grafts via FUE (Surgical) You can find additional examples of his work by visiting the “Results Posted by Leading Hair Transplant Clinics” forum and by using the “search” feature. I welcome input and comments from forum members regarding his potential recommendation. To view our standards for recommendation, click here. Best wishes, Bill
  9. Before Surgery: • Previous follicular unit extraction and strip harvesting surgeries • Inadequate growth, plus obvious linear scars formed • Patient wanted more density, a restored hairline, and his linear scars covered. Surgery: • Goal: add density overall, rebuild hairline, cover up linear scarring. • FUE hair transplant repair using mostly beard and body hair, with some head hair to total 9000 grafts transplanted in two sessions. Surgery Results: • Results are from 5 months after the second session Find out more about hair restoration surgery from DermHair Clinic. 10. I'm seeking advice on my decision between Dr. Feller, Dr. Dorin, and Dr. True for a relatively straightforward 2,500-3,000 graft strip procedure, my first. I've had in-person and online consultations with a number of doctors over the past few weeks and came away feeling the best about these two practices. However, I'm now having a lot of trouble deciding between the three doctors... o Dr. Feller came across as very confident, perhaps even slightly (but not overly) aggressive. But clearly his work and results speaks for themselves, and he seems to have a lot of supporters with very few detractors, from what I can tell on these forums. o Dr. Dorin came across as very thoughtful, perhaps erring on the side of being conservative, which is fine by me. He clearly doesn't have the presence on these forums that Dr. Feller and Dr. True have, I assume because he hasn't practiced as long, though he does have substantial experience. However, given the lack of testimonials and photos, it's a little tougher for me to get a sense of what kind of results he produces. o Dr. True I actually didn't meet with, but I would likely have the choice between having him or Dr. Dorin perform my procedure should I choose their practice. It sounds like he would take a very similar approach as Dr. Dorin. I realize that the fact that Dr. True is more senior than Dr. Dorin doesn't mean that he's better at his craft or would produce better results for me, but it does seem to result in there being more testimonials and photos capturing his work, perhaps not as many as Dr. Feller, though. I'd be grateful for any guidance here. I feel like at the end of the day I probably won't go wrong with any of these three, but given the cost and significance of this procedure, I want to make sure I'm making the best possible choice. Thanks in advance! Best, UMan
  11. In 2002 I noticed that my hair was thinning in the frontal area of my hairline so I went crazy trying everything from propecia to rogaine to sawpalmetto.. Finally I came across a brochure of a Dr. in the Philadelphia area that does hair transplantation.. I stopped in his office and decided to have him do 2 hair transplants to my frontal area of my hairline.. What a big mistake! The results were very unnatural and unpleasing. The first and second procedures were done By Dr. Joseph Gallagher from the Gallagher Medical Institute.. I would not recommend him to anyone. He is still using outdated techniques to this day-which are plugs. He is misleading many people advertising that he is performing follicular transplantation. I stopped in his office and told him that I was unhappy with the results and wanted my money back.. He said "I can't do that." I can give you a free transplant.. I told him that I would never let him touch my head again! So I did my homework and decided to give The Shapiro Medical Group a shot since I did months and months of research to find the best clinic for me.. I talked to Matt Zupan and scheduled last February. Right now I am posting the 10 month period with I had my 3rd transplant.. What do you think of the results? Before and after pics of Dr. Ron Shapiro's work of camouflaging old work! Some of the pics were taken with my I Phone.. Not the best pics. Feedback please....
  12. 31 year old with significant diffuse thinning resulting in a NW 5 pattern, desiring to do a small session to start his hair restoration. He had a 2000 FU sesssion with Dr. Arocha. The after photos are taken at 8 months post-transplant.
  13. Note added by administrator on 6/13/2013: Note: As of April, 2013, Dr. Kyriakos Maras has been approved for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network based on his ability to perform state of the art hair transplant surgery with excellent results. To see how we recommend hair restoration physicians, click here. To see our standards for recommendation, click here." ----- Dear Forum Members, As many of you know, we gather as much information as possible about a physician, their staff, technique and track record before they are even considered for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network. Part of our review process involves getting input from patients and the members of this forum community. To learn more about this review process, click here. We would appreciate your input regarding the potential recommendation of Dr. Kyriakos Maras of HDC in Cyprus. At this time, Dr. Maras is only being considered for recommendation, not the Coalition. To see our standards for recommendation, click here Dr. Maras has over 3 years of experience performing exclusive hair transplantation and is the medical director and leading hair restoration physician at HDC in Cyprus. He specializes in both follicular unit hair transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE) and operates on only one or two patients per day. Dr. Maras completed his discipline of General Practice at the Shechenov Moscow Medical Academy where he also specialized in Medical Training and Sports Medicine. Before HDC, Dr. Maras worked in both state and private hospitals in Cyprus and is an upstanding member of the Cyprus Medical association. Dr. Maras is also a member of the ESHRS (European Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) and is awaiting membership approval with the ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery). Dr. Maras and his dedicated staff averaging 5 years of experience have the ability to perform large, densely packed sessions of high quality follicular unit hair transplant surgery exceeding 3000 grafts when appropriate for the patient. Dr. Maras also has the ability to dense pack up to 50 to 60 follicular units per square centimeter (FU/cm2) and even more using single follicular units only in the crucial hairline areas as appropriate. Dr. Maras uses a single blade to harvest the donor strip in order to minimize follicular transection and employs the trichophytic closure technique using a double layer closure to minimize the appearance of scarring. Dr. Maras uses tiny 20 gauge needles (approximately 0.9mm) for most grafts and 21 gauge needles (approximately 0.8mm) for single follicular units in the recipient area to minimize trauma to the scalp and maximize dense packing when appropriate for the patient. All follicular units are meticulously cut using microscopic dissection and carefully placed into tiny recipient incisions using magnification by Dr. Maras' experienced medical technicians. Dr. Maras feels that using all follicular units creates the most natural looking result. Dr. Maras' typical FUE hair transplant procedure ranges between 2500 to 3000 grafts over a period of 2 or 3 days. Dr. Maras prefers using manual extraction tools over motorized devices and uses punch sizes as small as .75mm. He feels that FUE best suits patients that want to avoid linear scarring and want the ability to shave their head down to grade 0 without showing a scar. Dr. Maras asserts that FUE is ideal for patients with minor hair loss that require sessions up to 1200 grafts. He also believes that FUE can be a great adjunct to FUT/strip to provide more donor hair for those with extensive hair loss. Given Dr. Maras's experience and commitment to quality follicular unit hair transplantation, I believe that he should be considered for recommendation. See our standards for recommendation. 14. Gents, I did a search first just to see if this has been covered. If it has, then apologies. You know how different people have different frontal hairlines, so one person might have that triangular 'widow's peak' (like Count Dracula!) or another might have a straightish 'rockabilly' hairline, or another where the temples go deep with the hairline coming out like a pier into the sea (like Bogart!). When you have your transplant, can you 'discuss' the style of the hairline you want? (I don't know what is possible you see). I guess it's almost like 'designing' a new hairline for yourself (so is that possible?). Regards, Campbell
  15. Before Surgery: Prior hair restoration surgery Patient still had an obvious receding hairline and thinning crown He wanted his hairline reconstructed, and more density in the crown area Surgery: Goal: a youthful hairline and moderately filled vertex 2300 grafts total with FUE hair transplant; 1800 grafts harvested from the head and nape for the temple points and hairline, along with 500 grafts for the vertex Surgery Results: Results pictured are from eleven months after surgery If you're interested in FUE hair transplant, click to learn more. 20. Hello, I am trying to find out information about Optima Hair Specialists. Does anyone here know about this company, or are you a client? Have you tried their "Hair Integration Program"? Do you have any idea of cost? I can't tell you how much I would appreciate any input on Optimahair. I am having such a hard time deciding on a reliable company. Thankyou for any advice or suggestions you may have:) Best Regards, Mikey
  21. Hi everyone, I am in my mid twenties and I have been losing hair since the last three years. I was not satisfied with the non-surgical medical treatment, so decided to go in for surgical hair restoration. After browsing this website I came to know about the Coalition Docs recommended by this website as well as by various Hair Restoration Societies. After seeing the patient reviews, I approached Dr. Arocha by email, describing my hair loss condition along with my recent photos. I also had many queries regarding the procedure and he was very prompt in replying to all of them very meticulously. After exchanging emails several times, I did a skype consultation with Dr. Arocha for about an hour! He was very sober and when I was speaking to him, it seemed as if I knew him for several years, whereas it was the first time!! I was pretty much worried about my hairloss, but he gave me a lot of confidence. That I guess, was the first treatment! His experienced staff was very friendly and helpful! Today I have had a personal face to face consultation with the Doc and his staff and at his clinic I was feeling like at home. A very good first experience!! I will have my hair restoration surgery tomorrow. I will keep you updated as things go on.
  22. I am currently 21 years of age. I am suffering from a receding hairline. I understand that I am too young to get a hair transplant. My questions: At what age would it be fairly safe to get a hair transplant? How much could this potentially cost? Could I maintain a hairline that resembles a Norwood 2 (my current position)? I want to tackle this problem as efficiently as possible. From your experience what would you recommend? Thanks, Geoff
  23. Often the debate around hair loss is always focused on men, however hair loss also occurs in women. Women experiencing hair loss can often times be quite devastating since we live in a society that puts so much pressure on a woman to look particular ways. I have been in discussions with some people who will think it is funny when they see a woman wearing a hairpiece or a wig when this may actually be something that is a requirement to maintain her self-esteem and self-respect in society. Especially depending on the field in which she works, these wigs and hairpieces may prove even more important.
