This patient is a 38-year-old gentleman who desired to increase density in the hairline and frontal zone of the scalp. He wanted this to follow his native hairline and not alter his appearance significantly. He does not have a family history of hair loss and is currently on oral and topical medications to maintain his native hair. His desire was very conservative: he wanted to bring down the frontal hairline about 1 cm and increase the density in the frontal area. The hair quality in the donor area was excellent, and he had no intentions of shaving his head in the future. The patient ha

Hello all, I just wanted to share a recent hair transplant experience I had of mine. A little backstory, about 8 years ago I was going out with a girl, and I thought that my balding would ruin my chances. So in a moment of weakness, I decided to go to the Philippines to get a cheap hair transplant because that's all I could afford at the time. I supposedly got a 2000 graft transplant, but the end result was sparse hair, somewhat wiry and also had pitting in some areas. The experience was pretty horrifying because after the procedure, I was bleeding pretty heavily and probably lost lots o

I want to share my recent experience with Dr Gabel. About myself: I am aged early 40s, currently living in Australia. I have had a slow receding hairline over the past 6 years and have been taking both minoxidil and finasteride to stabilize my hair loss. In 2016 I decided to have a procedure to lower my hairline to a point I was comfortable with. I had the procedure in Canada, it was 2700 grafts (FUT) and it lowered my hairline around 2cm. Why another procedure? I was delighted with how the hairline looked, but after 12 months I realised the dens

This patient is a 28-year-old male who we performed 1591 grafts to the frontal hairline 3.5 years ago. He initially had a hair transplant at another practice which had failed to deliver the desired result of a solid hairline. He felt many of the grafts did not grow, and that he had some irregularity to the hairline. Examination at the time revealed large spaces in the frontal hairline and poor density. It did appear that he had poor growth from the prior procedure. Additionally, there were several 2-hair grafts in the hairline which were giving an unnatural appearance. We transplanted 159

First let me say that I am a semi-public figure, so unfortunately I will be unable to share pictures, but if I could, you would be as impressed as I am. I spent 3 years researching and interviewing doctors for my hair transplant. I probably met with a half a dozen doctors. I am thinning in front and, especially because I give live speeches and appear on TV, my work (and ego) required a more youthful look. I am fortunate indeed that I finally found Dr. Steven Gable. Dr. Gable is an artist and a scientist. He was easily the most passionate doctor I met about my hair transplant, and the most

This patient is a 31 year old male who had 2084 grafts harvested via the FUE donor harvest method. This was a combined case with both Dr. Gabel and Dr. Konior at Dr. Gabel's Portland Hair Restoration Center. The patient is now 8 months after surgery and is thrilled with the results thus far. He continues to send in photographs from home, and we will continue to post them with his permission.

LONG time reader, first time poster. At the age of 22, I made a mistake and got a HT from an ISHRS doctor to fill in my somewhat receding hairline. I freaked out at the first sight of recession. I had about 2000 grafts implanted. If anyone around that age is reading this post, I would strongly advise against HT's. The hairline was too low and the density was thin, so I went back to the same doctor 6 years later and got another 2000 grafts implanted to attempt to add more density. Obviously, this did not remedy the situation. I got by throughout the years with a combination of longer h

I wanted to share a what an exceedingly wonderful experience I had with Dr. Stephen Gabel in Oregon. I drove 7 hours from California for my hair transplant procedure and definitely had some nerves. I had done a Skype consultation with Dr. Gabel and was impressed with his ability to consult remotely. Having previously been stumped finding quality surgeons in my area I was relieved to find Dr. Gabel. The level of experience, knowledge and talent towards hair transplant surgery that Dr. Gabel and his staff presented were beyond my wildest expectations. Very professional, courteous and caring towa

This patient is a 29-year-old patient who desired to restore his frontal hairline. Because of his age, we designed a conservative hairline. He is on medical therapy which has helped maintain his current pattern for the last several years. He had 1629 follicular unit grafts placed in the frontal hairline region 6-months ago. His growth has been excellent, and when he returns for his 1-year visit, we will post the results.

I’m ecstatic! I just had SMP aka tricopigmentaion done by Dr. Steven Gabel on my god-awful strip scar from a different doctor, who shall remain nameless. The results of Dr. Gabel’s work went beyond what I could have hoped for in the FUE and SMP process. It was super quick too! Take a look at the pictures yourself! I also had FUE of 605 grafts (hence the darker red circles around the scar in the pics). He really wanted to make sure that the FUE process didn't thin me out to much (this is my 3rd), but that I also got what I needed for the transplant. He did a very good balancing act in my opinio

This patient is a 55-year-old gentleman who had 2 transplants with us over a 2-year timespan for a total of 5074 grafts to the frontal and midscalp zones. He is frequently on the forums with the username of Biz. When we met over 2 years ago, we had lengthy discussions about the eventual outcome as his hair is thin and he had extensive hair loss as a NW 6/7. At the initial meeting, I was optimistic he would have a nice result, but I cautioned him that the result would be “thin” based on the amount of scalp that would need to be covered and his hair characteristics. He recently send me

First off THANK YOU to everyone on this forum and this site. So helpful and resourceful. In addition to all of Dr. Gabel's patients who have posted here, let me specially mention both SteelBlue7 and OtherSyde. Their thorough and detailed posts really led me to seek out Dr. Gabel and I'm so happy I did. I traveled from California and had an initial consult, and I was impressed by that enough to go ahead and book it. We discussed FUE and FUT, I chose FUT after long consideration even though his initial recommendation was for FUE, because I wasn't having a significant amount of work don

I am presenting this patient who had surgery on September 3, 2014, and will display her results every month on this thread to document the progression of growth in hair restoration surgery. This patient had 3439 grafts placed in the frontal hairline and temples to augment and bring down her hairline. She has graciously volunteered to return each month to my office for the next year so we will be able to present her photographs in real-time. I feel this is instructive for patients inquiring about the progression of hair restoration surgery and how they may look each month.

This female patient desired to wear her hair back; however, because of her naturally deep frontotemporal angles, she always wore her hair forward to cover them. She felt the alopecia in the frontotemporal angles gave her a masculine appearance, which she did not like. We densely transplanted 1892 grafts into the frontotemporal angles. As shown in the immediate postoperative photograph, it is vital that the grafts are oriented correctly in a lateral direction, which the hair naturally pointed in those areas. The slits are also made in a very acute manner so the hair “hugs” the scalp in the

This patient is a 57 year old gentleman who desired to increase the density of the frontal scalp. He was not interested in lowering the hairline; he only wanted to increase the frontal density without causing a major change in his appearance. The patient is presented 19 months after surgery showing a much improved frontal scalp density. The hair was not trimmed or cut to perform the procedure. We utilized a combination of precut slits, and it was further refined with the stick and place method. The patient is extremely happy with the results and it has certainly met his expectations.

Help me Obi Wanthair Kenobi, you're my only hope... Hiya. I'm 43 years old and have noticed my hair receding over the past five years more and more, but now it seems to be really thinning out over the last two. I posted lots of pictures in my profile. I am apprehensive and confused as to what I should do at this point. I'm pretty positive I don't want to take the current choices of drugs (which is basically Propecia/Finasteride at this point in time). I don't want to be stuck on them forever and also I'm not a fan of modern medicine -- seems there are always side-effects. Sh

This patient is a 51-year-old male who desired to strengthen his frontal hairline. He has very good density in the frontal central tuft area of the scalp, mid-scalp, and crown. 2260 grafts were placed in the frontal hairline region. The postoperative photographs show the 1-year result. Multiple photographs show the hair as he normally has it, and several depicting the hair with a band and comb to show the transplanted area more clearly. Case details: Total grafts: 2260 Strip method: 16.0 x 1.4 cm strip Grafts: 1’s: 516 2’s: 1041 3’s: 568 4’s: 135

This 56-year-old patient two years ago desired to have his frontal hairline and forelock restored. His goals were very realistic in that he wanted to frame his face, and to have it appear natural. He wanted a hairline that was augmented, but age appropriate. He was also in situations when he had to shave the back of his head, and still is. In discussing the options, I felt he was a perfect candidate for FUE. He understood that FUE is not a scarless procedure despite what is falsely advertised on the internet and TV, or what is read in highly deceptive airline magazine advertisements

For several years, this patient has noticed a gradual thinning and decline of her frontal hairline. She felt that it was thinning to the point where she was unable to style it to her liking and always had to brush it forward to hide her hairline. It became very frustrating to her and ultimately she was self conscious about it. We designed a female pattern hairline by following her current hairline and lowering it to make a very natural female hairline. 2234 grafts were placed into the frontal hairline and immediately behind it to connect to her native hairline. Over 750 single haired

This patient desired to have a thicker/fuller beard specifically within the goatee pattern. He is able to grow a beard at the cheek area, but always felt that the area around his chin was sparse. He also wanted to thicken up the mustache area. On examination, the patient’s scalp hair was thinner then his native beard hairs, but pretty good caliber. I discussed with him preoperatively that although I would be able to transplant into that area, the hairs would not be as thick and he may require more then one transplant to thicken the area up to meet his goals. The patient had 1573 graf

Ken is now 9 months out after transplanting 2569 grafts to the frontal scalp. The before and after photos show how well a transplant can change the appearance of someone. Ken looks younger, he feels younger, and it has had a tremendous positive influence on his life and career. Hair style is also very important; again, his curly hair is a bonus as that adds a layering effect. We have been documenting his progress monthly. Here are his previous links to show the monthly progress of the growth of the transplanted area. Looking at all the previous months that he was posted, the progression

Hey everyone Im just wondering if anyone has had any hair transplants done in Washington state? Im 23 years old and my hair has slowly been thinning and receding for the past 3 years or so. Im looking for any advice because i can't stand it how everyone has to point out my balding and make me feel twice my age. So i figured it would be better to deal with the problem now rather than later. I've been researching some places and im interested in checking out the Gabel Center.

Ken is now 7 months out after transplanting 2569 grafts to the frontal scalp. These comparative photos show his progress. His hair continues to fill out very nicely, is growing very fast now, and starting to add some density to it giving a fuller appearance. We have been documenting his progress monthly. Here are his previous links to show the monthly progress of the growth of the transplanted area. Again, I want to thank Ken for taking the time to come into the office every month to demonstrate the monthly progress of a hair transplant. Here are the links to show the prior po

This patient is a 57-year-old gentleman who came to me after a failed hair transplant elsewhere in the Northwest. He stated that 2 years prior to my initial evaluation, he had a transplant, which did not achieve the desired result. In fact, he had problems with an infection throughout his scalp and an area in the left mid-scalp turned black. It took almost a year to fill in with scar, which is shown on the close up. On initial evaluation, he had many 4-mm areas of “white scars” which represented plugs that failed and had no hairs. There was an area in the left mid-scalp which was whi

I know this will take a while to read but I ask that you read in full if you want a better understanding of the HT process. I know my experience may vary from others, but at least you will be better informed of what to expect before, during, and after your HT. I have been a long time lurker on the forum, constantly reading peoples post about preventative treatments, suggestions of HT surgeons, and analyzing HT results from patients posted pics. I guess it is now my turn to give back to the community that has helped guide me in the right direction for my hair restoration needs. If you want
